The biggest set from the Crusaders subtheme. A fantastic raised baseplate castle!

The knight on the horse with red arms is not the correct minifigure for this set! All minifigures in this set (except for the female minifigure) has red torsos with blue arms.

Ahh thanks for catching that! I bought this used and somehow didn't catch that the seller had the wrong torso for that guy. I'll make sure to grab the right one next time I order from Bricklink.

This was one of many Lego castle sets I collected from about 1990 to 1996. It's the O.G. raised baseplate (or as I called them at the time "mountain base" castle set. Others with the same base included Black Knights' Castle (also called "Dungeon Master's Castle" in at least one early catalogue) and Fire-Breathing Fortress (which was identical in shape to the KMF baseplate, but had some black rocks). My cousin had a Pirate set called Imperial trading post that also featured the same baseplate, but with water painted around the base, making it an island. I can recall there being at least two space sets that also featured it: the Ice Planet faction's Ice Station Odyssey and the Spyrius faction's main set, which I don't recall the name of. Royal Knights Castle also had a "mountain base", but one that rose more gradually and covered a significantly larger area.

one of my first memories is that of my father coming back home with this set as a gift for me. it was my very first big lego set and will always have a special place in my heart, just next to the 6274 (Carrbean Clipper).

Great music choice during the build. Also “generic smiley face” was a great description for one of the best LEGO heads of all time haha.

There can never be too many mini-figs. They are my favorite part of the Lego experience. That first knight needs a plume upgrade. I like the current builds and how they are built up without a baseplate but I still like the raised baseplate. As always, another great video.

I think the palm tree parts were around until 2002 somehow, but I didn't know they were used in a non-island setting like here. Also never owned any sets with them, since I wasn't around during most of the '90s.

This set is so nostalgic for me, my cousin used to have one. I remember I'm hating the barren layout of this set, typical of lego during this period, like the police hq, etc. Thank god much later the lego modular arrived, and then the lego lion's knight's castle 90 years celebration arrived. tbh I think today is the golden age of Lego and thankfully I think it will still be like that.

It's the first time they actually put play features in the castle other than having it fold open and having a draw bridge. Not everything functions properly but this is the groundwork for most of the features we see later. Another funny thing is that they give you the connector on the side, but its rather useless. Since there are no sets that connect to it at the right hight. All the mini wall pieces are on plates, not base plates. Different hight. Same issue with the black monarch castle and the additional wall sets. 6034 and 6059 are on plates, while the castle is on base plates. Making connecting hard since you need to convert everything.
@DaMnUFo0
@DaMnUFo0 3 года назад
I actually like the flimsy drawbridge since it gives me an impression that it would creak every time someone walks on it, which I would think it would do especially if a knight and his horse used it. Thanks for the review.

This isn't quite the best classic castle, but it might be the most interesting looking. Absolutely terrific set, and if you were to combine this and the King's Castle you could build a very satisfying fortress. I like how the big tower in the back is large enough to suggest a keep.

This set has a spot on my "to get"-list and I think I will also buy a few yellow flags, to get the flag colour sheme of the crusaders right, as this castle uses the Black Knight's flag colour sheme for some reason. It's a very good castle, tho certainly not the best out there. Anyway a fantastic review video from you mate, as always :-)

I finally bought it on Bricklink. My mother promised me this set if I had good grades back in 1990. I studied like crazy that year but she lied! Going to do some updates to it. Looks a bit bare compared to modern sets.

I also absolutely love pretty much any set with a raised baseplate, thanks for doing so many reviews of them! I wish I liked this / the others as much as the Black Knights fortress, I can't help but feel this one is lacking a bit of bulk / structure. I think adding an extra brick of height to the walls, and maybe 1 extra turret / tower on the exterior corner with the corner panels would have really helped beef it up / look fortified. Even as I kid I always sorta thought this would be easy to break into, though I do understand it has to be open somewhat for playing. 3 Brick high walls rather than 2 may have gone a long way in that regard.

This is a cool set…it has some weaknesses but that’s why it’s a fortress and not an enclosed castle
@Quetzen
@Quetzen Год назад
I always assumed this King's fortress was just an outpost on his kingdom, so it was indirectly the King's without the need for a king figure. I was glad to know at least the mountain on his kingdom was well-guarded. I was also wondering how any of the characters would get on the second and third floors...

I would much prefer a $350 version of this, as opposed to the rumored 6080 remake. Here's to hoping they incorporate elements of a bunch of cool castles, the way the Castle in the Forest was!

Not sure why the outside walls are built small. Why not make it 1 stud further out so it creates more space in the middle inside. You can see that extra 1 stud all around the small wall.

I think the king is suppose to be the knight with the more elaborate horse. Same with the Kings Castle set 6080. One knight has two flags on his lance. Just a theory..

Can you tell me which set should be connected on the left? It's been a question for long time. 6081
@BriansBricks
@BriansBricks 2 года назад
As far as I can tell, no set was specifically designed to attach there. All the other modular castle sets are on plates, and not the thinner baseplate that this sits on. So putting any of those would cause a tilt due to the difference in height of their bases.

@@BriansBricks I’ve always wondered this since my childhood. Just recently, I connected the wall segment from 6061 (siege tower) and the 6041 (armor) to the left pin and it looks pretty good with a higher wall defending the open ramp area.
