I don't know why so many people overlook this theme! As a kid I had a bunch of the bodies and heads from insectoids and eventually found that the theme was called insectoids. That was like 8 years ago. I like this! Not something I would want to invest all of my money in, but I love the colors and some of the cool peices. Especially the light up sound stinger!
Me too. And I had this set when it first came out,and instantly kept buying sets,to make different sets and bugs. And I still have one or two minifigures laying around in a box. Just for nostalgia.
I ended up putting these 1998 insectiods sets along the real insectoids from galaxy squad. Maybe that's the planet these spacemen landed on. Then the real insectiods found out their disguise, so that's where the galaxy squad helps these fake insectoids out? Decent story to me!
I really like this one. The engine/power generator looks especially cool and I love that you can open up to see it and the crystal, and even take it all out of the vehicle. Awesome!

Still amazed at the level of details the mini figs of this theme had back in the days; especially when compared to the early star wars mini figs released a year later
This was the very first Lego set which I and my brother got as a Christmas present. I feel really sad that we have lost many of the bricks over the years. ☹️
Insectoids - the best Lego System sets ever. I remember, back in 1998 or 1999 I had a dilemma, which one to choose, this one or Celestial Stinger. I have chosen the second one, and it is still with me.
Until I saw this video, I had completely forgotten I owned one of these. Damn, that set was a lot of fun when I was a child. If only 15 years of storage hadn't made some elements magically disappear. I would really have liked to recreate this set, both for me and for my 15 years younger brother.
You really make the point clear that the figures are not the Insectoids, but the Vehicles. Will you review more of this theme? It's one of my favourites and I've collected every figure. (Though I don't have every set...) By the way, do you also find it weird that the gray Zotoxians have a chestpiece that's the same colour as their skin?
The set detail is a lovely addition! Any chance you'd make a video of how to take good pictures / video of lego for some of us less experienced? You have very high quality captures.
At 4:57 that's a tractor beam, & it's used to pull spaceships out of parking spaces when they jump ahead of them & steal the spot at the space mall. Maybe. Possibly. Probably not. Could be.
can you please make some of the alternate builds on some of the older sets? and when will you review the king Kahuka pirate set that you got in a haul video. you know the one with the hat from minifigures online that you had fun with.

I think they should bring this theme of Lego sets back, but bigger, like a huge planetary scale war, or hey, why not on a galactic scale. maybe like a galaxy of insect creatures that fight each other,

this is the only big lego set from the insectoids that i dont have. (i call a model made in or before 1998 a big set if them have 200+ parts --please note that models made in 1999 and after have to have a part count of 400+ parts for me to call it a big set. this is down to star wars sets and there way higher part count. and set's that have 200-399 part made in or after 1999 are mid-size set's.) still i would like to get this set my self at some point. but like a lot of the time it will have to wait.
I wish Lego would create a Lego history series where old sets come back and have the history of ninjago like all the elemental masters and young wu and young garmadon and the first spinjitzu master and so on and the history of nexo knights like Merlok and monstrox battling each other or working together and so on and am I the only one who wants a ninjago CONSOLE game and a nexo knights game?
so the insectoids were just typical spacemen who just dsigused their vehicles to blend in with the giant bugs on the planet? i thought they were Lego's take On Borg esque hiveminds due to the insect motif and penchant for inricate techno greeble. i also heard they were planned to be the bad guys for rock raiders. ooh i woud love a space meta theme that basiclaly reboots all these classic space sets like roboforce explorians UFO insectoids space police etc into a cohesive shared universe. bet when nexo knights becoems the sleepr hit it's gonna be lego may wanna make narrative contiuities out of all their evergreen themes:D.
