Oh, the nostalgia. I had one of this when I was at home and it was amazing. I remember extending the sub's arm to reach inside its compartment.

Another big unfortunate thing is it seems as if Lego fizzled out at producing further space (non-Star Wars) sets. I would love to see this Neptune Lab set come back as a space set in different color schemes of course.

What I am most impressed about is the brickcount of 492. That is really small for this much playability.

I like all LEGO sets not based on licensed properties. The cool thing about the old sets is how much variety there was. Today theres Ninjago, Nexo Knights, City and licensed stuff, and that's about it, at least until Nexo Knights gets replaced with something like CHIMA did. I like Ninjago and Nexo Knights just fine but there isn't as much variety as there used to be, like this set here. It wouldn't be made today, at least without being more City oriented.

I was JUST talking to a buddy about Lego, and how I loved this series as a kid, and how I always pined for this set, but it was too expensive. After falling down a Google rabbit hole of nostalgia, I found my way here, watched the video, and just purchased the set for myself, NISB. Great video!

og boy. this brings back memories. this is one of those things, that you cant activlie recall, that you had it, but as soon as you see it, youre like "omg, i had that". 1995.. more then twenty years ago, where did the time go? must have been hard for me parents to have me, since i just saw, that this was 90 dollars back then. i never wanted things SO BAD in my life like lego sets in that era. but i was one of the kids, that got a new set, build it, played with it, disassambled it and used the parts to build random stuff but never bet the original thing again (mostly due to loosing the instruction) aaaah, simpler times

I'm pretty sure a few of the propellers are just to scare off fish that try to swim inside the machinery. A spinning, glowing propeller would deter fish from swimming into the gears of the moving conveyor belt. The set looks very nice from all angles. It's a shame that Lego doesn't make every modern set like this. There's always an angle that has randomly coloured bricks, ruining that entire side.

Awesome set. 6175, the big Aquanauts submarine vehicle, was the biggest set I've had as a kid, my parents couldn't afford anything more (barely bought this one from abroad, it was cheaper that way than buying locally). I always wanted this 6195 set, and I didn't even have any idea how much playability and little details it has. This theme and space sets (Exploriens) look so awesome!

Lego Aquanauts, Ice Planet and Space Police from the 90's were definitely three of my favourite Lego sets to collect. I just loved the style and colour scheme of those sets as a kid (and still do). So thanks for the review, it took me right back to my childhood! Every Christmas as a kid I wished for this huge Aquanauts Discovery Lab set (I never did get it but I had many of the smaller sets and now I'm in my thirties and have started collecting Lego again I'm definitely going to try and get them all back again - they're definitely a must-have for me!). Keep up the good work! :-D

I'm currently contemplating this set. I suddenly had an urge to look for it recently. Used to have it as a child and LOVED it to death. The entire Aquazone series is my most memorable and enjoyable time with LEGOs. Well, this and the old medieval series, the one from the late 80s/early 90's. I should look around if I still have the old sets somewhere. I doubt it, but it'd save me a lot of money if I do lol.

I feel like this could totally fit as a space theme. Aquanauts reminds me of cosmonauts and it makes me think that they're space pirates. This actually is Neptune, and that's where they're stationed
@StillGraffHere
@StillGraffHere 6 лет назад
Aquazone was originally designed as a Space sub-theme. That's why these sets looks so "spacey", even the submarines carry some of the classic space building styles. The prototypes went by the names "Sea-tron" (good guys) and the "Sea People" (bad guys). Aquanauts got the color-scheme of the "Sea-tron" fraction. The original prototypes also contained a monorail with dual-molded tracks and a cockpit design that later became the "Blacktron II" signature interchangeable cockpit. Most of the molds for the special parts were ready by the early '90's, but the theme was only realized as full feature sets in 1995 and another big release in 1998.

Man, I wish I was born a few years earlier just to have had the opportunity to get this set... I was born in 96, so this set was already very much out of circulation by the time I got to an age where I could get these sets... The sad thing is I couldn't even just buy it now, because the real value of this set is in play, and exploring, and creating your own stories... So I am thoroughly bummed that I didn't get to experience this for myself...

This set is one of the coolest and most eye popping sets lego ever introduced. I got mine in the 90's as a kid on thanksgiving and remember building it at my uncles house. The blue/yellow color scheme is amazing and the attention to detail is great. They put a lot of effort into the back of the set, and Even as a kid I remember being impressed by this.

I believe the propellers are used as rotors for hydroelectric energy. The currents spins the rotors which spins a turbine connected to a generator creating electricity for the base. That little dome in the middle is like powering up an EV car.
