edit: macaques voice actor, billy kametz, passed away on june 9th. may he rest in peace, thank you for your amazing work. context on something: the bird at 27:03 is macaque (youll see him transform into it after) its very subtle and i missed it the first time, im assuming he followed mei after she flew off, then when nezha and mk were trying to get wukong back he was scoping out the area and waiting for the perfect time to get mk to mei (and also the mayor to the rest of them)... (also i have to apologize for 27:22 i made a mistake there ^^; i didnt realize i cut him off while he was talking lol. it would take so long to rerender this though so... just ignore that error. he says "i know a guy who might be able to help.")
i just realized that macaque's whole power is based on manipulation of shadows which is really fitting because he's always felt he's been living in Wukong's shadow
i wouldn't say he's just in wukong's shadow, he IS wukong's shadow. He's the embodiment of Consequence and Karma in the show. Wukong has done so much wrong, and Macaque is karma for that. MK doesn't do much wrong at all, so Macaque does no permanent damage to him, even going so far as to help him. Plus, Macaque is shown to be Wukong's equal-and-opposite (every action has an equal and opposite reaction) in regards to power. Same strength, but light v.s. shadow. Shadows aren't evil, just dark. TL;DR, the lean monster believes that karma's a bitch
Macaque claiming he's not a hero. Leaps to intercept a punch, knowing he's not strong enough to overcome Sun Wukong. And then catches the innocent girl that LBD had possessed and took her down to safety.
@@MinecraftWorld1954 true but it is also a thing where everyone thinks a character is dead cuz of an explosion, no body, only for them to turn up alive at some later point. no body, no death
@@whitemoonwolf13 Believe what you want, still doesn't change that Macaque has caused too much trouble and suffering to be called a hero. He's a wild card with a small goodness streak at this point.
After watching season 4, I can understand why. He basically spent his life as a side character to Sun Wukong and got bullied as a useless coward by his so-called brothers in arms despite being Wukong's best friend. He knows what it's like and sympathizes enough to give respect.
Yeah, I was thinking about the future VA for mac and I personally thing that the due that voiced Shiro from voltron would be a good match but that’s just me 🫶
Billy Kametz gave life to many characters I treasure and adore but most of all, he was a light that was snuffed out far too soon. My father had a battle with colon cancer as well, and though he is still around, my heart nonetheless aches for those such as Billy that weren't so lucky. May he rest in peace.
@@autistic-mf Okay look I love sun Wukong but he was being so stupid here , there were at 3 people that could have been seriously hurt by his plan , Mei obviously she was the 4th ring , The Host for LBD (he still didn’t know how to free her) and MK
Macaque's character is so interesting. He's a villain, but he's also helping MK the entire time. He gloats and he goads specifically to get MK to reach deeper into his powers, to learn who he is. It's so fascinating to watch. The whole time he's working for the Lady Bone Demon, he's also working against her. MK lost his powers again, and the Lady Bone Demon wants him back? Okay, let's torment him a little, just enough to get him to unlock his powers again. Surely the LBD can't fault him for being overconfident? He didn't think they'd be able to escape so quickly. It's not his fault for not ending the fight in the first hit.
This is my first time seeing a big amount of content from this series (wasn't really interested). But just from the way he trained MK at the beginning of the video said enough that he _was_ genuinely training him, it's just that the training has a different mentality, but is still wise in its own way. He says "You can never have too many teachers" and this is in line with Uncle Iroh's wisdom from Avatar the Last Airbender, about drawing knowledge from other sources to improve yourself (hence how he created Lightning Redirection). Later he says "Stop trying to be nice. Your first strike should be your _last_ strike." the first bit refers to how in a fight for survival, you can't afford to be nice if yours or others' lives are on the line; the second part is an indicator that if you can end the fight in an instant (whether it be rendering them opponent unconscious or something more...lethal if necessary) there's nothing wrong with taking that road (as it can also serve to preserve your strength and stamina in the event of facing multiple opponents at once). Wisdom, strength, and emotion are all neutral in the face of morality. All can be used as a weapon, but their morality will only ever be decided how they are used, not what they are capable of. Yin and Yang, there is no such thing as a coin with only one face.
I believe, Lady Bone Demon knew all along that Macaque is planning to betray her. But the team need an incentive to keep going for the Fire, that she could use to destroy everything
@@cooldude3946 yeah he passed away I believe on June 9th after battling stage 4 colon cancer. It’s always really sad to see such talented and great people leave too early.
the audio queues when MK is giving his speech to Macaque are different from when Macaque is usually on-screen...it makes me wonder if that is what The Warriors soundtrack would be like and it kills me every time bc it's so pretty and heartfelt. This show has me crying fr
El mejor para mí, un guerrero de la vida real que voy a recordar con cariño siempre, gracias por todo Billy Kametz, amable, risueño, gentil y dulce que amaba su trabajo, un luchador hasta el final
@@buggart he was also being powered up by lbd which you can see when he froze mei. macaque was probably afraid of dying again or didn't wanna hurt the monkey king too badly which is why he seems to fight a lot less recklessly there.
I didn’t know Macaque’s VA passed away last month. My condolences to his family. His role as Macaque was played beautifully. On a side note, Macaque’s interactions with MK are the complete opposite of Monkey King. Sure he’s brash and impatient, but he acts like the mentor MK really needed
@@lilpandarose Wukong also killed Macaque once. That's hard to get over. I mean how would you feel if the person who made you feel inferior for much of your life murdered you?
he legit murdered him. Also when i first watched the Embrace Your Destiny episode (which is the ending of season 3 ig?) I thought Wukong said "before you get yourself d-e-d" but ofc i rewatched it here and he did not say that but still. Idk if he apologized to Macaque yet but i dont think so?
29:25 I like that you can see Macaque is scared facing SWK. Not only did he lose once and died, this time SWK is fighting under LBD control which means no holding back. I wouldn't want to face someone that beat up all of hell and heaven and immortal more then once
Macaque's powers are so cool, well animated and beatifull. Dark/Shadow powers are quite often while cool and terrifying, but bit too dull and simple, but this is a good example of that dark powers can be bit more colourfull.
WHY IS THIS SHOW SO GOOD AT MAKING CHARACTERS. NOT VILLAINS, BUT CHARACTERS!!! RIP Billy Kametz. Dude gave one of the best voice acting performances that I have ever seen in animation (This being it)
I only knew about Billy from this show. He really did bring this character to light and did absolutely amazing. Him as a person also seemed to be such a kind and amazing being to this world. It's so sad to know that he died so young at 35 years old due to his colon cancer. May he rest peacefully ❤❤❤
9:11 - 9:17 I love how freaking _spontaneous_ Macaque is, without even trying! Like, he abolutelly did NOT need to say 9:15, but he ended up saying it anyway! 😂
26:25 I completely missed the fact Wukong shoved his hand in Macaque's shadow. Not grab his before it entered, he literally grabbed him as he was already inside.
Although Billy was lost way too soon, on the bright side, he was able to touch so many people with his short time here and will be forever immortalized within the characters he so vibrantly and vividly brought to life. Rest easy Billy Kametz. As long as you are remembered, you will never die.
I love how much this story takes from The Journey to the west, but doesn’t just blandly retell it, it tells it’s own story. All the characters as absolutely amazing and hilarious
Yeah, the fact it's like a sequel gives the writers the opportunity to tell the story they want to while keeping the key elements of the book while also making references to the original story Like: "Literally your entire legacy is about you being irresponsable and dodging responsabilities"=MK summarizing the 7 chapters of JTTW "The time you ate all the peaches you were meant to guard? When you kept annoying everyone in the celestial realm? THE TIME YOU PICKED A FIGHT WITH BUDDAH-?!" MK telling the stuff that got Wukong trapped under a mountain for 500 years " Hey, did you know uh Monkey King was trapped in here once too? MK: Yeah. Difference is he was thrown in and I jumped. Reflection MK: True. But you know what he did? He stuck it out, found a way out. Ended up getting his Golden Eyes of Truth too" Reflection MK talking about how they tried to take Wukong's inmmortality by throwing him into the Triagrams Furnace but that ultimately led to him unlocking his golden vision. Also the soundtrack and animation is incredible.
@@claudialuquepazos2934 Honestly same with the animation and sound design. They gotta make more stuff of this quality I swear. Hell you can barely tell they’re legos besides their weird hands
@@dragonmster4473 Plus them being legos not only gives the show it's unique and characteristic aspect but can also lead to some funny gags like them switching expressions by spinning their heads, having disposable arms in A New Hero is Born and break the fourth wall like when Mei said in S2 special "I feel this would be easier if I had fingers" Another great thing about the show was how they took some characters and gave them new ways to shine like how they did with Lady Bone Demon, turning a ghost that only wanted to eat Tripitaka into a real threat with a great design and great writing (love the fact that despite her actions, she had good intentions as she was trying to create a world without suffering for everyone, but her way of doing it was wrong and still lost but at the very least she will remain in MK's thoughts even after death with her final words)
22:04 I feel like this is such a cool little detail. Notice how it was only Macaque’s ears that started ringing at the sound of Pigsy singing. I feel like this is due to Macaque being the Six-Eared Macaque, obviously having much more sensitive hearing than anyone else. The sudden loud noise was enough to cause his ears to ring and for him to reel back in pain, simply because his hearing is 3x more sensitive than other people.
To Billy. May he rest in peace. He made Macaque so memorable. And I will never not laugh at when I found out he was voicing him because it was literally "You wanted Naofumi to be the bad guy? He's now the bad guy".
Honestly after getting bullied as a type of coward for not wanting to be in a fight he knew he couldn't win, hated and eventually killed by the person he loved most, spending centuries in lonely agony, revived and then enslaved as a manservant by some monstrous force for evil, no wonder Macaque is such a shifty sarcastic dick who distrusts everyone. It's all a shell to cover a lifetime of pain. Without it, all you get is one depressed and miserable monkey who has no one left. It makes sense why he immediately bonded with MK and Tang as well. He saw himself in them.
Yep, because he's trapped under LBD spell and mk and his band are his only hope. So seeing he's not actually doomed and there is a possibility where he could be freed just makes him so relieved to a point of hysteria.
lowkey he is my favorite character. i hope we get to see alot more of macaque and his history moments with sun wukong like how was their original dynamic was before their fight.
aaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwww maaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnn its our favorite, dramatic, theater boi the six eared mackie muh booyyyy also 27:32 "sorry mr.Maquack" I love that sm
I got into this show a week before billy kametz passed and I genuinely enjoyed every time he had to voice him for a scene.he brought so much style and charisma to macaque and I’ll always treasure it. Rip 🕊
His voice is perfect for tuning out my families super loud ear piercing voices whilst I concentrate on washing my hands I have a hard time focusing when there are people talking which is why I tend to stay up more at night when nobody else is awake
Alot of them are, it's ironic they didnt make Bull King or the Scorpion the big bads. Those were real dangers they needed help to kill, unlike the LBD, who Sun Wukong killed 3 TIMES LMAOAKAO
You can use that name for either a pet duck or a rubber ducky, but if by any chance you come across a black monkey plushie, you can use the name on that too and remember macaque as Mr. Maquack 😁
I’m really sad he passed away…his voice was set up for pure potential. It’s going to be hard if finding another guy to mimic his voice because he did it SO well. Macaque as a character BLEW ME away (and no not because I’m SIMPING for a mysterious m o n k e y); his backstory is AMAZING based on how Wu Kong treated him in the past! Hope everything going well with the series/future projects!
In the book, Macaque impersonates Sun Wukong in one of the chapters. He copied all his abilities since he was born (basically he watched him grow up) , they were so equal that only Buddha could guess who was the identical I think he is meant to represent Sun Wukong’s past, given that the book is a metaphor for enlightenment and personal growth
I didn’t know you played this character and I only ever knew of one other role where your talents brought a character into life, but regardless You will be missed Billy 😔
Thank you for these videos, Macaque is one of the coolest villains in the series. I wish they made his Mech set with an optional crystal armour that could be attached though, a Mech made of shadow, metal and crystal is quite unique.
Rest in Peace you absolute legend. Your performance rivaled Sean Schemmel, and it’s not every day someone can match not only Goku, but the Monkey King himself.
R.I.P Billy. You will be sorely missed. Thank you for your wonderful contributions to the world of voice acting. You may have left us, but your works will be eternal 🙏🏾🕊
rest in peace, Billy Kametz. he was such a treasure to this show as macaque, and as many other characters in many other shows. he wont be forgotten any time soon, and i hope he never will be. he was, and will continue to be, such a gem.
Rest In Peace, Billy Kametz. Though I have personally not watched the show yet, your amazing performance as one of my favourite characters is pushing me closer and closer to yet another amazing community. For this I thank you, may you rest well Sir.
Seeing this tens of times, i am just now seeing how Macaque’s eye is twitching during the first monkie king fight (was he scared of Monky king or annoyed about his shadow comment) 4:30
