In my review, I provide an overview of what I thought of Lightailing 's light kit for the LEGO RIVENDELL set (10316), as well as how it compares to the others on the market, including: LightMyBricks, LeLightGo, Briksmax and Game of Bricks.

This is a completely excellent and appreciated review of these types of light kits. You mention battery packs, and this is a year ago, but I'd only want with also USB connections.

This is an excellent video - I've never seen the lighting kits being compared in a review like this. SUCH a good idea!! I also really like that you made it clear that Lightailing provided the kit for free at the beginning of the video. I do like the 'twinkle-ability' of the Light My Bricks set but it's double the price and it doesn't seem as bright as the Lightailing set, which really brings it to life 😊

I'll always add the disclaimer that it can be hard to tell brightness with light kits sometimes on a video but that's why I'll always be honest in my reviews 😊

Nice comparison and explanation. It was nice to see, it really turned out nice. At some point I may try a light kit again. I did one for my Darth Vader's castle but it did not come out very well. Thanks for the great video!!

@@bonniebricks Well for one thing, it did not work. I installed it correctly but it would not light up. Since I did not use it for a long time after it was gifted to me, I could not return it so I was a bit disappointed. I believe it was from one of the companies that you mentioned. I also would prefer to get the light kit before I built the set so that I was not taking it apart after I have already put it together. I will plan that out better next time. :)

@@BeardedBrickHead Aww that's gutting, was it working before you installed it? I think you may have just gotten unlucky 😔 I've never tried installing a light kit as I build.. I think it maybe depends on the set whether it's easier or not.. I think it would confuse me to be honest but everyone has a different way of doing things 😂😊 I hope you have better luck with your next light kit!

Aww I'm glad you found it helpful 😊 the light kits mentioned all have USB adapters, so what many do is feed these all to a power adapter with USB slots so they are directly plugged into the mains

Thanks for the video 👍 You know , you are making it very hard to keep this set in my wishlist !! It may have to come home with me at. some point . The light kits are == wow 😄 . a really fantastic review showing all the options , I had no idea they were all so different !! If I did get Rivendell , I would almost have to get a light kit ( rabbit hole ?? == LOL ) . I would have to wait for a X 2 VIP event and I am still hanging on every rumor about the -- maybe ? 100th Disney Castle ? , 💗 that would be a must buy and like Rivendell , try to hold out for X2 VIP points. Yea neither did I until I started looking into things, it can be so confusing and frustrating choosing between brands, but at least this way people know some of the basics to help make up their mind 🙂 Yea I think the next double VIP points will see RIVENDELL flying off shelves, it would be an amazing deal for sure!!! Oh I know!! I'm predicting they'll announce the castle on June 1st for a July release... I hope 😭😂 thank you 😁

Wonderful review. I am about to begin this beautiful adventure. My first Lego set that is my own, having just put together all the sets our kids had from 1990's. Did you add the light kit during the building or after?

Thank you so much Susan! 😃 Oooh so exciting! An epic build that really hits you as a LOTR and/or movie fan! I hope you enjoy the build! I installed the light kit after I had built the set. Some find this much more challenging, but I think trying to install a light kit alongside such a big set as I build it would take away from the build experience itself. I'd highly recommend getting a light kit for this set, absolutely worth it given it's already an incredible display piece 😍

One of my main issues with the light kits is, over time do they discolour the bricks?

So this isn't something I know a great deal about when it comes to LED lights that are in light kits. We know sunlight and UV rays definitely cause discolouration, I believe all lights do to an extent, including LEDs. If you check out @BrickTsar channel, they do a video all about this. I guess it comes down to how much you want to display the set long term as part of a city for example and whether you have any intention of selling it on later. Personally, we just want to enjoy our sets here in the now which has now included adding in light kits to make them all the more magical 😍😊 but it's all about personal preference, and ofcourse how often you turn your lights on.

Does it set have a speaker that might can play some of the music from the movie?

No the lightailing version does not provide any sound/music effects, however light my bricks, lelightgo and game of bricks have versions of the light kit that do 😊 it's not music from the movie due to copyright but will provide some added magic im sure! ⭐

The lightailing one I installed doesn't unfortunately, however other brands (usually those with a higher price tag) do.

Interesting that you saw the similarities (cloning) of two brands and not others. Lightailing and brixsmax are the same and quite frequently you get the other interchanged amongst orders

Lightailing sell Brixmax on their website, but their light kits for each set differ in their design. So for RIVENDELL, lightailing use white wires, brixsmax use black, lightailing have the white light behind the statues, brixsmax have red/orange, and also lightailings kit didn't have any flickering water whereas the brixsmax one does 😊
