As someone who has the original Sandcrawler, this set is a massive improvement, except for one glaring flaw. The original Gonk Droid is the best minifigure I own and the droid in this set is a cheap imposter

Never quite understood the cape controversy. Jawas don't wear capes. Adding capes don't make them look more authentic. If anything they should've used a new full body mold like the Maggie Simpson one.

This set is Totally Frickin' Awesome!!! I am SO Glad that I bought this when I did a few months before it went into retirement. I still haven't opened it up yet, because I have been waiting for my younger 2 sons to come visit, so we could work on it together. Long story. Their mother is an Evil person. Anyways, As usual Thanks for purchasing, building, filming, and sharing this Bad Boy. ;-)

I think the "vacuum" is supposed to be a magnet for carrying droids or parts that have iron, nickel or cobalt.

I know it is a bit confusing. Usually Star Wars sets are gray boxes. This one is a brown box, very different.

I own the 2005 Sandcrawler. I like the exterior more on this one, but the interior sucks. I wish they focused less on the whole crane element, and instead made the inside more like a giant workshop or something; although I've always been a fan of LEGO's display and collector value, instead of play value.

+Jerry Turcios In the original unaltered version you see some people and a green astromech right before the "these aren't the droids you're looking for" scene. The special editions put a bunch of annoying CGI dinosaurs, and in this scene one of them walks in front of the screen blocking the droid and making you tilt your head on instinct as if a big dude was blocking your screen. Most pointless SE change if you ask me.

Jang, that opening hatch is for R2-D2 when he gets sucked up by the tube, you put the tube on the crane, connect r2 to the tube and put him in the hatch

the inside of it even from a movie perspective was meant to look rough like an iron rustic work station so it doesn't bother me that it looks ugly inside or that it has an excessive amount of technic parts because that's what's its meant to convey anyway

Nice review, I got this set, and boy was it expensive. However, it is worth the money. It is one of the only UCS Lego Star Wars sets that has a good amount of playability to it. The only complaint I have about the Lego is the use of obnoxious red pieces.

Thank you for the great review Jang. This was my big double VIP point buy this year. I just finally finished it. A truly wonderful build. Far moreso than it seems at first glance. There are so many clever tricks to get all the subtle complex angles just right. As far as it's scale. It seems to be roughly 1/2 of what it should be for a true 1:1 minifig scale. Oddly enough it also looks to be almost exactly 1/2 the size of the actual original studio shooting miniature. So a true minifig scale would be almost 1:1 size to the filming prop model.

those opeing hatches ARENT SUPPOSE TO BE LOW because in the movie theres 2 levels in the sandcrawler so thats suppose to be on the 2nd level and they through people outof thse if people sneak in

I prefer the original set; the builds for the droids were extremely creative and I enjoyed seeing the mid-level compartment with the "smelting" area, which I'm sad to see this one lacks. Not bad; but I don't see this as too much of an improvement.

This is a massive improvement even though SOME aspects are not as good as the old one, which is almost inevitable.
