LEGO Technic 2005 Mobile Crane 8421 Reviewed! Legendary 9v Set!

This is such a modern old set, with complex mechanisms and yet it has that "retro" look for technic.

What I really like about this set is that it was made firmly into the studless era, but still uses many studded elements regardless. I really appreciate studless/studded hybrid constructions like this a whole deal.

My parents gave me this set for my 8th birthday, back in 2007. This set started my love for LEGO technic.

Was always a dream set for me. Now I finally own it as well as the legendary 8455 backhoe. Now to find a reasonably priced 8285 tow truck.

This looks like an awesome set! I have the later 42009 MKII Mobile Crane but there is still something about this older set. I would still buy this older set if it was released today, and I know I would enjoy it. Great video of a truly great set 👍

I prefer studded design over the modern sleek looks. Playability > design

I like this set better than all the current sets because it’s functionality.

I like how the battery box is used as counterweight for the crane.

I got this set for christmas when i was nine XD I also have the 42009 mkII crane frome 2013, and as an owner of both, I can say I love them both :) The amount of pieces they have is also really handy for making moc's.

Those yellow pieces were actually common among some mid 2000’s lego racers.

We need buggy motors I thought my small rc PF tracked thingy using 2 M motors was fast

Amazing set & great review! I have been hoping to get a hold of this set for some time now with no luck. I am keen to get that buggy motor and see what it can do!. But maybe buwizz is the way to go based on the other comments. What do you think? 🙃

I got this, I guess when I was about 8. My brother and dad built it. It didn't last long before it was pieces in a box. 24 year old me is kicking 8 year old me, but oh well. Kids are kids.

I think they should bring back the buggy motor but in control+ so u can control it from a phone.

You can get those buggy motors from China now, if you are in to that kind of thing and it's really cheap too, someone did a review of the Chinese version compared to the original, when I say Chinese the original was probably made in China too but you know what I mean.

I've recently bought this model second-hand. My mother refused to buy me a 8460 crane when I was a kid. Thus, I've been choosing between the two models, eventually opting out for 8421. I'd say the model is awesome! So much better than the modern Technic, those cranes and loaders were what made it special for me. Thank you so much for helping to figure out the functions, it was unclear without the stickers what the gearbox levers are for. :) I had also acquired a 42108 approximately a week before bumping into a 8421. It looks more basic but whatever. I haven't assembled it yet for being taken by my childhood dream coming true. What front loader from mid-90s-2000s would you recommend for buying? It is another yet unfulfilled dream from my childhood.

I like this set and I enjoyed the review but please do a bit more research and use appropriate terminology like outriggers, ballast, boom or block... Like the crane should be standing on the extended outriggers before you attempt any lifting. A lot more could have been tested and demonstrated here. Sorry if I'm nitpicking as I do appreciate the video and you got a like from me.

Newer one looked better, older one has more functionality and is way more money and harder to find for me at least, yeah ill take the newer one it looks way better and is more accessible in terms of rarity and price and I can hook up power functions manually
