jarlfenrir so basically none of the red gears are attached to the shafts they spin freely, and when you shift the lever forward or backward it engages a certain gear and changes the path that the torque goes through

Dgustafsson13 I've had the idea for about a year now, but I haven't had the parts or the know-how :P

epicjn, just get an idea and plan it out. I'm at the moment making a Subaru Impreza STi (2004) and I've figured out my chassis. I'm using Sheepo's MPS system (it was difficult because it was only available in SR3D, so I built off of pictures), Sariel's stepper gearbox (similar to this but I prefer his since I need a gearbox capable to handling lots of torque AKA 2 XL motors), and hopefully an Sbrick, but that one might be out of my budget. I recommend just writing on a piece of paper what you want and look it up on the internet for inspiration. I'm building this because there's only been one Lego Technic Subaru so this is a somewhat original idea. Then, make comprimises. For example, the Subaru comes with a 6 speed gearbox, but only a 4 speed gearbox was capable of shifting while driving so I went for a 4 speed.

+Hunter Smith I'm guessing you're applying too much torque without having reinforced the outer gears on the sides. Or are the inner gears grinding too? The ones inside the box that is☺

Dgustafsson13 Thanks for replying! I did reinforce the outer gears but it is the one on the insides that grind. On every different speed the grinding is on different places.

+Hunter Smith Hmm, Well then I'm afraid this type of gearbox isn't strong enough for your application. Unfortunately the inside of a gearbox l8ke this can't be further reinforced, so the next step is to move on to some kind of unsynchronised heavy duty gearbox. Search for that on RU-vid to find it. I haven't made any yet☺

The LEGO Mastermind Nope they are two different systems, but I think it shouldn't be too difficult to enlarge this gearbox to fit the newer ones
