I desperately wanted these sets as a kid when they came out! If not for the translucent parts, the minifigs were the draw of these sets! Now that I am older, I feel that they could have done so much more to polish the set, little fine details that would have made this set feel complete and more to desire for. Like a console, more to the cockpit, some instruments along the dish of the ship, maybe more storage in the center, something to give this set more play value, if nothing else. Regardless the minifigs were highly desireable for their time,to me, and I still feel that way today. Thanks for the nostalgia Jang, hope to see more!
I LOVE UFO series. Played with as a kid, minifigures are awesome and Predator looking. Please do 6979 Interstellar Starfighter with lights and optic fibers :D
Jang, I got this set when I was in primary school after good school reports- how amazing 20 years later to see this again- please get the huge mothership with the magnetically attaced detachable explorer. Love your videos. I don't collect Lego, but the nostalgia trip you bring in your videos is a huge source of reminiscence. Kind regards-
I used to have this set. It was really an awesome set to have and the printed piece on the top changed color if you push it for a while with your finger. Your body heat makes it change coler to be red/orange I believe. The minifig was the best part of the set but those large plates and landing gear were great for building my own stuff with.
I've got the same set. I call it Medusa, because I changed 2 upper large light gray parts into transparent ones taken from 6975 (which I call Predator). UFO and Insectoids are the best Lego series ever produced! I wish they produced them these days. At least I've got some of the sets, all these videos (JANGBRICKS) and some fine memories from the late 90s!
the sticker on top of the round plate is heat activated, if you put your finger on it it will reveal a picture. just letting you know as i have most of this series and the big sets come with that sticker.

Wow brought back some serious nostalgia with this set jang! These mini figures were my absolute favorite as a kid and I vividly remember using the large round outer pieces in everything i built.
I was looking through some LEGO timelines and saw the "UFO" series listed ... probably only had 2 of the UFO sets, but its design and minifigures were probably the best. I think I remember having to wait 2 looooooong weeks for the UFO Warp Fighter to come in the mail from the Lego magazine. I'm tempted to buy this set to ease my nostalgic feelings from 1997!
Yeah, I used to have some of these sets as a kid. That alien sticker you pointed out on top of the canopy is heat sensitive, pressing your thumb against it will make it change colour.
This is among the themes that i have barely ever seen, even in old catalogs when i was younger. Insect themed alien/robot sets are very very alien to me as a result, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but i just can't relate to them much. I really like the minifigure though, i love silver and blue! I recently realized that majority of old space themed sets had a lot of elements that the original Alpha Team sets borrowed from. I always thought the main antagonist "Ogel" had a unique armor piece but apparently not.
Wow, the minifigure included... really holds up. Especially with the head mold and armour piece. If you showed me the minifig today without any context, I would think it was made in 2009.
Missed out on the UFO line as I was deep in my dark ages. I have picked up this set and it is very cool. I have several of the Alien Conquest line as well and while that line is cool I think the UFO series is better. So strange and mysterious. Bring it back LEGO!
I must have own 5 of these over time as a kid. It was the perfect price point. I remember getting 2 of them for Christmas by 2 different relatives. Never complained because then I could have a fleet of them!
I have this set and many others from this line when they came out. I don't know that I ever really liked them very much. And I really feel that this line was the beginning of the end as far as traditional space...
Another small feature from this set that was missed but kind of interesting... The round 2x2 tile with the sticker on top of the cockpit window changes color when you apply pressure with your finger. I got this set used last year, my favorite feature is probably the spinning of the top. Nice review :)
I like the UFO line. In my quest for the best big spaceships I recently bought 6915 and 6975. They passed my "Is it cool" test with flying colours. The Warp Wing Fighter (6915) looks like a cross between an X-Wing and the Starship Enterprise. The Alien Avenger is the larger round UFO, with lots of cool features. I took delivery of the Interstellar Starfighter (6979) today, but I haven't had a chance to build it yet. From the pictures it looks like a scaled up Warp Wing. It is more of a capital ship than a starfighter, but that can't be a bad thing.
Hi Jang! Thanks for this great review! I got several sets of the series, including this. I consider this series as quite cool. It's stylish, unique, has innovative parts, although they are bulky too. But i think that LEGO-UFO was a bit underestimated, MOCs containing UFO parts are rare, it's apparently a bit challenging to moc with them. Although many AFOL went for the big mothership just to get the light generator/conductor parts. It was the playability and the really cool minifigs that made it up for me, the aliens and their ships do really look "alien": strange, biomechanical, a bit disconserting. They have great details. To me especially the minifigs never reached this level again in later ufo/alien related themes.
I think I remember these showing up in the first Lego Racers game. That helmet looks great, and kind of reminded me of the Exo-Force robot heads in profile.
jang! i am pretty sure the 2x2 smooth round plate on top of the cockpit changes colors! you have to warm up the print with your finger by just keeping it there or rubbing the piece. I think I remember that's how its activated. be sure to include it in the next UFO review! thanks jang
Mr JANGBRiCKS, allow me to defend the UFO theme by saying this: An Unidentified Flying Object(UFO) didn't always look like a stereotypical flying disc or saucer. Some UFO witnesses reported seeing a cylinder-shaped object, other a cigar-shaped object. With that in mind, I find it suitable to have only TWO sets in the UFO theme to look like a stereotypical flying saucer.
JANGBRiCKS Also, I forgot to mention if every set in the UFO theme looked like a classic flying saucer it would make the theme very dull. It would be like if the whole classic space theme consisted only of variations of the LL-series spaceships.
I used that minifig as a Darth Vader character, since I had little to no sets as a kid! Lots of epic battles was set in my room, untill the day he was stabbed by Luke and fell from the highest shelf, to the floor, cracking and destroying the minifig head piece. What a shame, but epic and honorable conclusion to my space battles as a kid.
When I saw the thumbnail, I thought it some sort of Galaxy Squad set at first, it wasn't until I read the title that I realized that this set is almost as old as me!
my favorite series, along with space explorers! i have all sets from the series except the big flying saucer... you forgot to mention that the sticker on top of the cockpit changes color to green when warmed up... ;)
I can't care for it much(never really did). I found the selling point of them is the minifigures. But this does include(as you said), very large pieces and interesting colors.
One thing you sort of skipped over is that the black, rounded 2 by 2 sticker on the top changes when you press your finger to it, or at least it's supposed to. Fairly certain it shows a yellow/orange alien face in the center, but I could be remembering wrong.
Set #6900.. exactly six thousand and nine hundred sets were produced before that. I'm never used to seeing so clean-feeling numbers in lego set numbers.
I've actually wished to see you review the UFO sets! :D I think they look very cool but I never got any of them. A friend of mine had the Interstellar Starfighter 6979 and I loved it. I liked this review and I look foward to any more UFO reviews.
hey Jang, I do have this, I love you ufo, I have the bigger set as well, and some others from this range, it was the minifigs that drew me to this line, I love this theme, im glad you are doing this,

No mention of the heat sensitive sticker on the round 2x2 tile? My older big brother had this set, and when you pressed your finger against the sticker, or put it in the fridge, it would change color depending on heat! It's one of those qualities of 90's LEGO, that are too expensive to produce today.
I only got a little cute set from this theme but i did like it

Thanks for the review! This is theme was always my number 1 favorite of all time. Not coincidentally the first set that I got as an AFOL was from this line too (6975 Alien Avenger). Also, just as a note, the Cyber Saucer had an alternative "version" which was packaged with a mask, set number 6999. (I was able to get it last week in a quite good condition.) Hope to see more!
