Thanks for sharing, Leica Q2 is a Louie Vuitton handbag, great experience but almost dis functional for a lot of pro or advanced enthusiasts, the Q2 is a luxury that meets a very small niche but doesn’t accommodate for a broader range of other photographic scenarios, such as portraits, events, wildlife, sports and so on, The XT5 is a Swiss army knife, can do anything be light when it wants to be or it can turn into a beast when paired with bigger lenses and L bracket.
Word! Epic looking camera, but.... Not worth the extra thousands of dollars. Making this video, comparing the results was an eye opener. On that note, shooting with the Q2 was a great experience for someone that does loads of street photography. One or maybe 2 videos to go with this camera before it must be handed over to a new lucky owner that will hopefully put it to good use. Im more that swiss army knife camera kinda guy! I love the q2. But only for aesthetic reasons haha. I can’t necessarily justify the price, especially in the early stages of photography. But I do find a major appeal in the Leica products. Great comparison!

i own the q2 and i bought it for it's simple aesthetic and size. i've taken some very nice shots with it. i own the gfx, but it was too big and heavy for street photography which is what prompted me to buy the q2. however i found using the q2 and metering very challenging as it is very easy to blow the highlights (universal problem with all Leica cameras). the issue with blowing highlights is what's prompting me to sell the q2 and replace it with an xt5.
Yep - its just the colour science that is different for every brand I guess! The Leica shooting experience though... Its pretty nice. But not 5500USD nice, hehe. Velbekomme! Have a great weekend
Hey Daniel, Not strange at all. I can definitely relate. The look of a camera and how it makes me feel about taking it out and using it is a very big deal to me as well. I was a Canon shooter for many years, but wanted something small and portable I could have with me as a walk rounds camera. I decided to try a Fuji and some legacy lenses. It was a game changer for me and made me want to go out, shoot and enjoy the experience of taking photos with all the manual dials. I've recently sold all my Canon gear and have stuck to the X-Pro 2 and a few fuji lenses. But I'm slowly getting the FF itch and wondering which camera I could get next. The Q2 or even the Q would be my first choice, if it it had a 35mm lens (28mm, or more like a 24mm, is just too wide for me, as I also like to shoot portraits, along with street and travel photos) So I'm doing a lot of research to try and figure out if the Leica Q2 would be a good choice. I'd need to sell my Fuji kit to afford the Leica. (to me the Fuji cameras would be perfect if they had that FF sensor 😅)
Hello friend - right off the bat ill say this: I sold my Leica with the realisation that a full frame isnt what gets me the great photos (ive been back and forth between brands for years, thus wasted a ton of money). Im with the fuji system now, and looks like itll stay that way. I get ya on the Qs, they look so tempting, but to be honest, id rather have the fuji so I can swap lenses as well. 6:53 Exactly. I am a working photographer with many Sony and canon bodies. None of these cameras come with me for personal photography or holidays. For me they are work tools. I would honestly love to own a Leica q2 but the fixed focal length has stopped me getting one. I have opted for a Fuji XPro3. This camera just comes everywhere with me, it just wants to be picked up and used. I can assume this is how you feel about your Leica. Thanks for making the video.
Yeah its funny that, isnt it? For work, the Leica never comes along, for pleasure; its always the Leica. But... Cant justify owning 2 cameras, and ill probably sell the Q2. The XT5 has almost the same bring-with-me always factor about it. Ive had a look at the XPro3 also, it looks great, much like the XT5. Gotta keep the ammount of gear down to the minimum productive/creative kit to fit my camera bag since I travel a lot. Thanks for watching!

Id go for the fuji, youll get the exact same images for waaaaay cheaper. Ive since sold the Q2. Just wasnt worth it in my book. Spent the money on fuji lenses and more trips because that where the magic happens
My major issues with the Q2 are , first of all that you absolutely need the thumb piece. Without it I felt like I was gonna drop the camera, but with it I felt obstructed using the dial. Another one is the choice for the internal processor that is the exact same one as the one for the previous model from (correct me if I'm wrong) mid 2015. The image handling feels slow and the image size compared to other brands with similar (or higher) resolutions is huge. The most annoying thing I stumbled upon was the color calibration though, The EVF is pretty good, but the LCD looks completely different from the colors you get through the EVF. The LCD looks almost like it has a green tint over it, so you're never really sure what you're going to end up with. For most cameras that would be acceptable at best and maybe not a dealbreaker.... but for a $6000 camera,.. I find it unforgivable. Another thing that prevented me from considering the Q2 was the fixed glass. I understand the "why", but being unable to use any other lens or bring the lens along to a new body makes this beauty less future proof for me. Having said all that,... while playing around with the Q2 I felt like a little kid having fun. Even just holding it made me feel special. I'll just wait until I can find a broken Q2 so I can get it for cheap and just hang it around my neck, and at least feel Leicool.
Good video Daniel. Personally on screen I don't see much difference if any at all. I use many brands, film and digital. I love Fujifilm, the X100 series is gorgeous, the X-Pro2 is an absolute gem. I went mad last year and bought the Q2 just to scratch an expensive itch. I killed it after 14 days, had it repaired and to be honest it's my go to camera when I want a chilled session where I can just make photos fuss free. For me it's an Inspiring camera to use I adore it. I wouldn't say the results are vastly better than any other camera but it's definitely the most enjoyable digital I've ever used. Hey Paul, I hear ya on that! In fact im headed out quite soon, and the Q2 comes with. How did you kill it? Its almost like a tank, hehe. Still undecided if ill keep mine. It is fantastic, but im doing my best to keep gear at minimum. Tough choice, and the XT5 also has a good bring along vibe about it. decisions decisions.... And thanks a lot for watching. Ill probably make another video or 2 about the Q2! Especially since the Q3 is just around the corner. Not that ill get it, but comparing specs and price I think would be a video worth making to see if it is worth the "upgrade". @@DanielBryn hey mate if I had a choice of one camera for the rest of my life I'd go with the Q not the 2 the OG as it's gorgeous does the business and at 24mp is easily enough for me and the files don't chew through the hard drive. The Q is outstanding, but I'll stick with the Q2 as well as it has weather sealing which I love. Hey there! I think youd be better off with a fuji where you can change lenses. But, the Q2 would be ok for that. Just a bit limited with the fixed lens.

Hey there, I dont have it anymore. But to be honest, lens sharpness, nobody will ever notice. Id much rather just be out and focus on cool compositions and unique moments rather than sharp images

Hello Didier, nice to see you on here. Honestly I dont know. But think about this; if the image is strong, or good, when you make it in to black and white, it doesnt really matter what camera it is taken on. You have much more flexibility with the XT5, and ive taken many good B&W photos with it. Same as with the Leica Q2. I have sold the Leica, since I have other lenses I like to use, and I dont care all that much for what camera is in my hand. Hope this gave you something to think about. Leica is also very expensive by comparison.
Excellent video Daniel. I’d really love to see you do a feature solely based on shooting with the relatively new Highlight Metering Mode on the Q2. I’d be interested to see how much detail can be pulled out of the shadows with high ISO’s in this mode. How do the high ISO Q2 Raw files respond to LR’s new AI Denoise ? Thank you.

The images from the XT5 seem to have better dynamic range. The shadows look like they have more information than the images from the Q2, at least on my phone’s screen that is
if you are testing it, why not test the XT5 at 1.4, simply put you are paying less price for more performance, does that extra F stop still look better than the sumicron1.7
I have no idea, I suspect noone could tell any noticable difference to be fair. Sold the Q2 anyway, its great, but too expensive to keep just for street photos every now and again
Lets say you pay 3500 for the red Leica logo - then the rest is pretty similar. Apart from interchangeable lenses on the fuji. Best case for Leica, id call it a draw. But lets be honest... Fuji, or any other camera in that price range will get you there 100% of the way if you know how to handle a camera. Its back on the fuji. Cool to check out the leica for a while though
Im not 100% sure, they are both great, but I reckon the Q2 would be slighlty better. In any case, it doesnt matter much with AI denoise features in lightroom. Thats really fantastic! And new cameras these days tackle high ISOs quite well.
In that case it sound to me you are looking to use it mainly for photography!? In that case, id go for the Fujifilm X100V. If you want to have flexibility get an XT5. I sold my Leica, and i am happy about that. Great to have tested, but honestly, its not all that(considering the price)
LOOKING AT THE CONTROLS AND IN PARTICULAR THE CONTROLS ON THE X-T5, I FAIL TO SEE HOW THE Q2 CAN HAVE A BETTER PHOTOGRAPHIC EXPERIENCE. Additionally, from what I can see the Q2 was producing images a little under exposed. For me the XT5 is by far a superior camera.
Hello Hanz - Its about how the camera handles. Too many (percieved) buttons can have a negative effect on people wanting a "simple" photo experience. Its about personal preference, I guess.
Great comparison! I snagged a Q2 a few months back. I agree that the Leice viewfinder is miles ahead of anything Fujifilm has. Also noted a warmer/yellower tint to the Fuji files vs the Leica files. Might have just been the white balance, though. Found that I wasn't a fan of the 24mm field of view. I know it's advertised as 28mm, but they aren't fooling anyone. I couldn't get into using the crop mode, either. Lastly, I found myself wondering why I was missing the center placement on some of the images I had taken. I later found out that I was composing incorrectly as a result of the info bar that pops up on the rear LCD when the shutter button was half pressed. It drove me absolutely nuts that I wasn't able to change that in the menus. Sold it to my dad and kept on rocking with my XH2 and X100V. Cheers!

Hard to tell comparative image quality when they are shown on RU-vid at even 4K. One small detail - you can change Fuji lenses (which don't cost $6K US each in Leica world) with the XT5 and not on the Q2. In terms of value proposition and cost of almost 3X for the Leica, the Fuji wins. It is also very close when comparing the X-Pro 3 and Q2. also. Also no in camera "recipe" simulations with Leica, Just buy an 18mm Fuji lens and pretend it is a Q2 or Q3 and put a Leica red dot on the Fuji if you need the status. :-) Good review and I want to live in Oslo!
Haha, well said. And yes! I sold the Q2 anyway. Nobody cares about the camera brand if the image is good anyway. All on the fujis now. Oslo is great! Especially nowadays in the fall. Almost too bad im not there, but African adventures has its benefits as well. All the best from Lusaka!
Hello Daniel! Thank you for the video. I'm thinking about buying the XT5. But since the number of pixels has almost doubled from the previous XT4, it is probably important to select adequate optics. What lenses do you recommend in order to maximize the impact of 40 million megapixels on the photo? I read in many resources that old optics distort the image. Thank you and good luck to you!
Hey there, that I dont know to be honest. Ill also be honest and say that I use mostly my xh2s for both photo and video with its 26 MP. 40MP is excessive, but nice to have with cropping etc. Either way, a great lens is the 16-55 f2.8 for almost all sorts of photography and video alike. For primes I use the 33mm f1.4 which is stellar. And the new 150-600mm for wildlife now that im Africa. Hope this helps a little wiht your decision
I call it Leica-drunk! People over influenced by the feel of a Leica in their hands. Depends on your budget, Fuji will do just fine, you don't need to buy a Leica. Don't be Leica-drunk! Love the one you're with!

I may find myself in a similar situation soon; I have a Lumix GX9 and three pancake lenses (30, 34 & 40mm equivalent) and that Kit cost me about £1000 and it does everything I need however, yesterday I bought a Sony a7c on eBay for £500 (which is crazy cheap). Assuming the Sony arrives, and isn’t a pile of crap, I will need to buy a lens and then decide what to do 🤔🤔
Do that and see if its a good fit. If not, just sell it again for the same price! Great thing about buying second hand (assuming it arrives, hehe) Have a great weekend Colin!
@@YounanPhoto looks like I’m headed for a refund: the guy’s an eBay newbie and obviously meant to auction the camera but set it as £500 buy now (so I did). I assumed he would refund me straight away (by implying there’s a problem with the item - I’ve had that before where mine was the only bid) but he paid for posting but never handed the package over to the courier. I messaged him on Tuesday asking if it had been posted yet and he replied, Yeah I bought postage and it should be with you on Thursday. I wasn’t surprised when it didn’t arrive and messaged him again saying that the evidence all points to him still being in possession followed by ‘you obviously seem intent on keeping it so I suggest you arrange for a refund’
Other than a slight color difference, I don’t see a difference or the “Leica Look.” Im sure the Leica is excellent, but I don’t think the price difference is justified. However, everyone has different wants and needs. For me, I would take the Leica, sell it, and get the XT5 and some lenses.

as someone who's owned the Q2 for sometime who also owns a Fujifilm gfx camera, I would say that Fujifilm is actually superior. the Leica q2 limits you to one focal length of 28mm. also, it is almost impossible to recover from an overexposed image on Leica. Fujifilm is far more forgiving with a much better dynamic range. also Fujifilm xt5 has IBIS which Leica does not. In the higher ISOs Leica images are far noisier than Fujifilm and unusable.
Heart is leaning more to Fuji - looking at the photos had me like why keep a camera this expensive when you can hardly tell the difference. Great to have properly tested the Q2 though. Cheers for watching!

$5000 plus cost for the Leica .. also it is a full frame and have 47+ megapixel and that XT five is right there with it wow and it only cost $2000. Wow. Go Fuji xt5 winer 🎉🎉 and the photos look like 98 1/2 percent the same.. wow Fuji APC sensor. **This is definitely a win.
Meaningless comparison, all cameras do just fine shooting abstract subjects. You could as well add a cell phone to the mix and it would have also looked the same. Where they differ is the subjects that human eye is sensitive to, like portraits, skin color, etc.
@@DanielBryn no offense, but practically all comparisons on youtube suck. So I do it myself. I bought probably a dozen of cameras from all major manufacturers for the last two years putting them side by side to all important places. All cameras do fine for abstract subjects. But nothing works better than Nikon Z series for those subjects that a human eye/brain is sensitive to. So if I were designing a comparison for youtube I would have chosen those subjects and light conditions where the cameras produce noticeably different results.
@@USGrant21st none taken, and no offense back; Thats not my cup of tea in photography. I do street photography, so in your case its not relevant to me. On that note, most new ish cameras these days produce excellent results if you know what you are doing. If nikon is best for you, great! Id argue the Q2 is better suited for street and everyday photography. Maybe the odd portrait in an urban situation. Anyways, sold it. Sticking to Fuji; it works wonders for me. Please make a comparison video the way you see fit, im sure it would be an interesting watch.
