You’re on the mark. I have the SL3 and the Sony A7R V. They’re both great cameras but the menu system on the Sony is awful. The feel of the SL3 is better in all ways.
Dude, this is really well said. It’s an artist’s machine. Is it for everyone? No. Is it for me? Yes. Am I selling my R5? Not a chance. People do yap about the price. I’ve had a 75 APO since day 1. I’ll bet in a few more years I’ll still get close to 3k for it. Total cost of ownership over the long haul is actually closer than most people think. Again, well said.
What are the strengths of the R5 that would keep you from selling it? AF I assume? Where is the line that the SL3 is fails and an R5 still performs? Thanks!
@davidagnello3002 I would say shutter speed and tracking / sports. It’s still an amazing camera and has gotten better with firmware since it was released.
Leica cameras are handmade pieces of art that inspire the user to create art and tell a story. You never forget that basic fundamental when you pick one up. Hard to explain to those who may not have had the chance to use one, that may be more vocal in condemning the brands, price, technical specs, or even the users. I always encourage those to continue using whatever inspires them to tell their story no matter the tool.
I would still like a way to Toggle that feature off. I’ll still complain! 🤣 No…I even tried to replicate it and didn’t have any deleted files or issues. All files stayed on the camera and none of them were erased on the SD or CF express. I recorded some thoughts on that…I reached out to Leica and got an automated email as an SL3 owner. Apparently what some users have done is removed their battery without turning the camera off…then putting a new one in…and then just start shooting….john wick style. kinda goes into the hate I see out there for the camera/brand.
@@constantinephotography5287 As you know, hater’s gonna hate😉. However it seems there is an issue which needs to be solved by Leica. I own the SL3 too. I don’t have any problems with freezing, overwriting etc. I could imagine that it could be a problem if your camera freezes and you have to pull out battery. In this case you don’t have the possibility to shut down the camera as Leica is asking - meanwhile they working on getting the issue fixed.
@Ich-k7y I’ve had to pull that battery a couple of times and didn’t notice any loss of images. But agreed…it should be fixed. Do I think it warrants a click bait “warning” thumbnail …no. Haha
I was using it for everything…at this point I’m still using the canon for sports. Ive been enjoying the SL3 a lot but still figuring out how both can fit in my workflow. If im shooting with a 70-200 im definitely using the canon.
Thanks Constantine. I’m curios to compare the Sigma 70-200 on SL3 to R5 with 70-200. I know it wont match, I’m curios if it comes close enough for my needs. Thanks for the honest review.
Great video; much appreciated (I've been waiting for an SL3 since it was announced, so look for reviews like yours). Are files downloaded via the Leica Photos App to your iPad Pro uploaded to iCloud by default or would that require specifically saving them to Photos?
@@nickditoro you can change the settings and have them saved however you prefer. Personally, I just have it saved locally to the iPad then uploaded to Lightroom (which is on the cloud).
Right now I only have two Leica bodies. A Leica Q3 and the Sl3. The Q3 is for personal/travel and I use the 28 as a second wide angle prime for commercial work. The SL3 is my primary paid work camera for commercial work, portraits and also for some sports for my kids.
@@elliotresnick5433 I’ve been there with my Q2. I ended up selling it. I regretted it and got the Q3. Don’t do anything rush…take a step back and be honest with how the camera works for you. Good news is…you should get most of your money back selling it.
I don’t really know…but if the preview on the VF or back screen is any indication I think I they are good. I shoot RAW (DNG files for Leica) but they don’t need much work.
