I always make it in a sheetcake pan. Make the bottom layer thinner and more crispy throughout. I also think it is better the next couple days as it settles.

I do that, too! It is fabulous! I don’t do the powdered sugar on top because this is plenty sweet enough! I also like to lightly brown the cream cheese topping, omg, heaven! The corners are MINE at my house!😂😂😂

I couldn't find the printed version either. Tried to find it on the website numerous times, to no avail. There's a partial recipe on the video, but it's just the basic, not whole recipe.

At My church ladies make this called cheese squares. They make the bottom real thin and longer .then add pecans to the cream cheese filling. Yes its delicious.

I made this today, and it was sooo.. yummy. I couldn't find white lily mix, so I used Krusteaz Meyer lemon pound cake mix. It did not have as much in it as white lily does, so 8"×8" was the perfect size. Thanks so much for this delicious recipe.

I often make this cake, but where I live it is called chess squares. I have never made a lemon chess cake, but can’t wait to try it. My friend told me about one more simple step that makes them even better!!! Make the cake as the recipe directs, don’t add powered sugar to the top. Let it cool completely. Take a tea spoon or small cookie scoop & dip down into the cake getting the crispy bottom layer as well as the filling. Using your hands gently form it into a small ball, about the size of a walnut, then roll it in powered sugar. Your hands will get gooey , after all it is a gooey cake, but SOOO.worth it. These are a wonderful addition to your dessert table, they look very elegant and elevated, so easy to serve, place on toothpicks or just pick up & go!! No plates or forks needed. I made them for our sons rehearsal dinner, & my daughter-in-law just loved them.. she is a wonderful cook & has a recipe blog. This recipe made the cut!! I am so honored!!! They have a wonderful KY Derby Party each year & I help out by making these “Chess Balls”. I can’t wait to make the lemon variety!! Hope you try them!! You won’t be disappointed!! Tammy I have definitely made that cake before but never in lemon flavor!! I will definitely be trying the lemon flavor next time I make it !! Where I'm from it was called The Better Than Sex cake!! As far as I'm concerned it definitely is better than anything!!! God bless!!

I made this cake for someone and they loved it. I topped it with strawberries. It reminds me of a lemon bar or a Cheesecake. It's really good and easy to make.

You are correct.. It's from St Louis. I'm from there and it's the absolute best you will ever eat! Also you can make ooey gooey butter cake cookies. They are addicting! Everyone from the Lou knows ooey gooey butter cake or cookies.

Yes, Chris is absolutely correct. I'm from St. Louis (Missouri, The Show-Me-State, Tourist Attraction Phrase: We have it ALL from A-to-Z, Home of the infamous Gateway Arch, Cardinals & STL Blues, Known for the historical Lewis & Clark Expedition, The vast Mighty Mississippi River, one of the largest Zoos in the world, Forest Park, etc., etc.). SHOUT OUT FOR ST. LOUIS!!! This is the cake (Gooey Butter Cake) I grew up eating. This specialty cake is usually found on every menu in The Lou! You can even find it at neighborhood bakeries & grocery stores. It is common to see Gooey Butter cake serve at many homes day in & day out. It's just pure YUMMY GOODNESS!!! If you're ever in STL...be sure to try some of the other foods Saint Louis is famous for...the St. Louis Rib Tips, Toasted Ravioli and the delicious ROUTE 66 Frozen Custard!!!😀 P.S. Hey Tammy!! This is a Super Good Yummy cake! My sister introduced me to this cake back in 1981. However, it was called a Sugar Cream Cake . I absolutely love it! @@nancyellis41 she was cooking and selling sack lunches from home when she was dirt poor. Her young boys delivered them for her. Her Aunt and other family members passed her recipes down to her. She didn't have a maid until she was rich and already famous. BTW I get my recipes from family and lots of places and different people. Nothing wrong with that.

@@nancyellis41 No its wrong to play God and judge people. Do you personally know Paula Deen or her maid she had when she was obviously already famous and able to afford one? For an honest fact in writing know her maid gave her the recipes she has used for yrs? Even all those yrs when she was struggling and dirt poor? I'm sure those recipes did not make her famous. Her southern charm, witt and personality did. Her story how she started out with her sons. I frankly don't care about all of that anyway. No one on earth is perfect and without sin. I'm so sick of this cancel cuture trying to destroy people. I like to watch her and who cares where her recipes come from. You dont have to use them or watch her. I use them. Enjoy them. Be careful going around on social media character assassinating people. For one you can be sued. But more importantly you will answer and be judged in the same measure by God Almighty. Ok, this is just an FYI for those who can't find a Lemon pound cake mix. I live in a really small town. We have 1 grocery store and 1 dollar General to buy groceries at. Neither one carries a pound cake mix. So I bought a 3.4 oz vox of instant lemon pudding and a white cake mix. For the first layer I put the box of pudding in the bowl first, then 2/3 of the cake mix. I remembered you said you thought thar pound cake has less cake like qualities than a regular cake mix. That's why I only used about 2/3rds of the cake mix. It turned out wonderfully and tasted lemony. If the only pound cake mix you can find is plain, add a box of lemon pudding. It works well to add lemon flavor. If you do this with a pound cake mix add the entire pound cake mix to the recipe. Next time I go to the city I will pick up a few boxes of lemon and plain pound cake mix. Lol Thanks for this wonderful recipe.

Great blog,I will have give in and try cake in a box.We to not have a great selection of cake in a box.I have a cookery school ,in my home a very successful The students will have a good laugh,when I produce the cake mix,( my Mantra ) is start from scratch.
