I really don't mind the ship mode for old wave. The 86 ship is a really interesting choice. This way you can have either a Shockwave or a small ship to put next to your Unicron.

So Shockwave turns into a ship he was never on. I guess it's a perfect escuse to give us a toy of The Revenge.

Love how his hose plugs into the thruster. "It's only logical", as Shockwave would say, lol. That's where the energy from his cannon blasts come from. I like how all the parts go somewhere in the transformation. Totally genius and great sounding ratchets for support and anti-floppyness.

The transformation is pretty involved and there's a lot of little steps that most reviewers miss (not their fault). So thank you so much, Emgo, for pointing them out. That being said, this is still an AWESOME figure. I've had my Purple Potato for a little over a week now and I absolutely love him! He's quickly become my favorite Shockwave figure yet.

I always thought the ship Unicron gave to Galvatron looked a little like Shockwave

"Transformers armada" and "Energon" Tidal wave was named Shockwave in Japan, so he could be a partial inspiration for the toy of Shockwave with a space dropship alternate mode.

Basically, Shockwave becomes the Decepticon's flagship the Revenge, looks so good.

I have so much love for these 80s/90s anime sci-fi spaceship designs that are super heavily greebled but almost entirely one colour. Its such a weird design trope that I can only guess was rooted in technical or practical limitations with the animation, but its such a unique aesthetic that I just really love. Anyway this toy captures that look beautifully, and it really was such a good idea to use this design for shockwave

I was looking for a figure to display next to my pre-ordered Autobot Ark figure. Im not happy with Trypticons "Ship Mode". But I think Ive found it in Purple Potato.

I hadn't seen the lights actually on before. The thing I had wished was different the most was that the eye was a bright yellow. I generally don't do batteries (they are just a money pit having to replace them), but I might have to here.

Its inconvenient when things won't work unless you make the sound.

thanx for the awesome review! for years I had wanted someone, ANYONE to make the Vengeance ship from the movie. A year ago when this was announced I was so excited and had hoped that it would be done really well. I preordered it right away. It finally arrived many months ago and I opened it and looked at the cool robot mode, and closed the box up again. I want to display it with my giant Unicron head on my shelf. To this day it is still in its box waiting for the day that I transform it and put it in my shelf...Damn you, Warhammer and your pile of shame! Hopefully someday soon. Or at least sometime this year

It is cool to finally have the 1986 ship. they never even had model kits of it so this is cool for a 1986 display, especially with teeny tiny 1986 figures out there.

I think having the magnet is a lot better than having to take parts of to access a switch

You know, it would be cool if they did something similar for the Autobot Shuttle. Perhaps they could have the front end turn into a separate smaller robot that could combine with the aft section to form a bigger one, kind of like how Saber can combine with the V-Star to become Star Saber.

Man, those arms are INGENIUS. Before I watched you transform it, I thought they were designed looking like that for pure aesthetics. Really disappointing I won't be able to afford this one, but my toy budget is kinda blown after catching up on so many great CW/TR/Siege/ER/SS releases, and preordering Galvy & Rodi for September. $150-180 is a great price for a 3p figure this size, but still represents a month's groceries or fuel.

Awesome review, Emgo! I really want this Shockwave! I think how they could have fixed the issue with the shoulders would be kind of how SS 86 Grimlock's legs transform with a track that shifts the leg panels into position. Maybe a ramp could have made this a non-issue.

The magnet activated light gimmick is also used in Mezco’s One:12 Collective John Stewart Green Lantern. One of his ring hands has a magnet in it, so when you press his ring against one of his lantern’s receptacles, it lights up and when you pull it away, it shuts off. Pretty ingenious imo I assume the Hal Jordan does the same.

Would’ve loved if his eye could bloosh ala Cyberverse or his thrusters could double as his cannon. (phrasing, ehem) Love how simple yet effective the arm transformation is and how karate chop-like it looks. The leg transformation is also really nicely done.

So basically the little thing that turns the thrusters on and off is the IGNITION KEY! XD
