It's olympic boxing, not professional. In fact, the fight should have been stopped way before. The real shame is how the current Olympic boxing is not even close to what it used to be, they (the new Federation in charge) completely ruined the sport.

Soft spoken Lennox Lewis at his best was the total package. The last undisputed Heavyweight champion emerged as cream of the crop against some of the biggest punchers in Heavyweight history. Lennox avenged his only two defeats by knockout. He didn't make excuses for his losses, he said, *"It's Heavyweights, you can get caught, but i won the rematches in style,"* and *"Show me a Heavyweight champion without a loss and i'll show you a fighter that fought a lot of nobodies."* In my opinion Lennox Lewis is the GOAT. To hear 58 year old Lennox talk so clearly and eloquently after going up against 18 Heavyweight Champions is remarkable. The 18 HW Champions Lewis faced: *Vitali Klitschko, Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, Shannon Briggs, Frank Bruno, Tony Tucker, Hasim Rahman, Oliver McCall, Mike Weaver, Henry Akinwande, Tommy Morrison and Ray Mercer were later recognized as WBO champions, British HW champion Gary Mason, European HW champion Jean Chanet, Commonwealth HW champion Derek Williams, Canada HW champion Razor Ruddock, IBF/WBF HW champion Michael Grant and WBC International HW champion David Tua* [[ technically not all were 'World' champions but champions nonetheless ]] *Other notable mentions; Olympic HW Silver medalist Riddick Bowe, Olympic HW Gold medalist Tyrell Briggs, Andrew Golota, Zeljko Mavrovic, Frans Botha and Phil Jackson*
@Bronco_Billy_Jack_Hills
@Bronco_Billy_Jack_Hills Месяц назад
6' 5" 235 lb Undisputed Heavyweight Champion Riddick Bowe with 81" reach had a career 43 wins 1 loss. At his peak he was an excellent fundamental boxer, had a great chin, power in both hands, could fight inside or out, as you please. He would have been a stern test for any fighter who ever lived. Bowe was the first boxer to beat prime Holyfield and the only one to actually knock him out. After Bowe gave Holyfield his first loss, making him champion, he built a mansion and lost all interest in boxing. Bowe was finished long before the Golata fights. Trainer Eddie Futch said, *"Riddick had more untapped potential than any fighter he had ever known."*

It's funny how at the time this fight was taking place, Lennox's former sparring partner Mike Tyson had been the reigning Heavyweight Champion of the world for two years, having become champion at the ripe old age of 20 in 1986.
@NibblesTheNibbler
@NibblesTheNibbler Год назад
Tyson and Lewis weren't sparring partners, per se. They had a short sparring stint of a few days when Lewis and his trainer drove up to Catskills, NY to meet Tyson and find out what the fuss was all about with him. It was by no means a formal sparring partner that was hired by the trainer or someone from the same stable of fighters.
@bradleyrobinson7552

'88 is when Tyson became undisputed, lineal, unified World Champion. In late '86, he did win the WBC Title belt, but he wasn't undisputed because there were two other guys with the WBA and IBF Title belts, and another guy, Spinks, that had been stripped of his Title but was still viewed as lineal Champ and he was still undefeated.

By the time with Bowe, he got a lot of money by fighting average boxer and a good popularity. He knew that a fight against Lennox Lewis was a riscky fight for Bowe, so he run away. Bowe wanted that fight because Lennox Lewis got on his nerves by saying that Bowe was a chicken and Lennox Lewis wanted to prove that he was the best. All credit to both boxers who both clearly came to win but only one of the counts you could say was justified and having watched the incident on repeat several times I still have no idea why Bowe was deducted a point. Also the stoppage was abysmal, no stoppage required. It's such a shame that referee's of this abysmal standard were allowed to ref the biggest fights in amateur boxing......

Wrong!!!! There were four fantastic heavyweights in '92. They all agreed that there would be a tournament style way of getting the heavyweight belt. Bowe would fight Holyfield and Lewis would fight Razor Ruddock. The winners would fight each other for the heavyweight belt. Lennox pummeled Ruddock and Bowe defeated Holyfield. But after Bowe won, he ducked Lennox and forfeited the WBC belt. This had nothing to do with McCall. Just stop!

You can look up whatever you want but that's what happened.
@Jeremy.G408
@Jeremy.G408 Год назад
@TJ McKenzie I watched the Olympic fight. Nothing in there to make me think bowe was terrified. It was just a money issue. Rock wanted bowe and him to get majority of money. They didn't agree. I refreshed memory and looked it up. Just as I recalled. As a fight fan I prefer they would have fought. As a business man I understand. Just like people give credit to Floyd jr for taking soft opponents and maximizing his earnings. Sucks for us fans but I understand rock newman and Mayweather. Just don't try to have it both ways in terms of your legacy when this stuff is mentioned. I don't blame you for putting bowe down but I highly doubt he feared Lewis.
@tjmckenzie4048
@tjmckenzie4048 Год назад
@@Jeremy.G408 Ya, but he got knocked out by Lewis in the Olympics. If you have ANY pride at all, you're going to want to fight the one guy who made you look bad. Bowe was a great fighter and was in phenomenal shape when he defeated Holyfield the first time (just look at the video of how ripped he was that fight). But he didn't have that work ethic for very long. He also bullied smaller fighters. When he went up against other giants, he struggled. He got destroyed by Golota.... TWICE. And lost to Lennox. Lennox overlooked three of his opponents (McCall, Rahman and Klitschko), but when he was in a Showtime bout, he always stepped up and destroyed his opponent (Ruddock, Tyson, Golota, Holyfield, Bowe in the Olympics). In a winner take all 100 million dollar bout, Lennox would've murdered Bowe. No doubt in my mind.

@@Amethyst_Friend You can see that Bowe was dominating lewis in the first round, then the ref started to cold into it calling bowe incorrectly for fouls which affected his confidence, and also lifted lewis confidences. Because of the referees performance I don't believe think it allowed an accurate contest was allowed to develop and the result was not a true measure of the contest that should have happen, but was denied of both fighters. I believe Lewis deep down has a nagging suspicion that the ref helped him which would remove some satisfaction from the result, and Bowe rightly would feel predjucidec against. I think Bowe refused to fight lewis as a pro as a way of making this point. A sad and bitter feud that should never have happened - and a good case study in how corruption and/or incompetence can affect sport in a negative way. Scared Bowe was frightened to fight Lewis in the pro game! Bowe destroyed by Lewis in this Olympic final. Bowe looked awful !! Lewis was a far far superior boxer!!

Bad stoppage, Bowe was landing the uppercut and hook and Lewis obviously didn't hurt him that bad (check out the raised arms, bouncing Bowe). Bowe only turned down Lewis in the pros because his manager was a greedy person.

his manager wasn't greedy. it would have been stupid to fight lewis next instead of rematch holyfield for 10X more money. do you understand these guys in teh pros fight for money?
