@@seniordavidmanderson9232 actually mike did when 2-3 fights by way of score card before he lost his belt to Buster Douglas. I forget the guys name, from New York, who called him a homo. Mike beat him by points in the ring then knocked him out in a bar. The guy ended up trying to sue him.
Yeah liked Tommy, came across an arse in the Rocky film, but as a boxer and out of the ring he was a class act (ignoring his favored pass times xD) He knew his ability and worked the tools he had. Under-rated fighter.
He wouldn't have standed a chance against Tyson in the 80's or any time before he went to prison. He was just too fast and punched too hard in those days.
@@vgnvideogameninja2930 Team Tyson purposely sidestepped Lewis early in his career. No one could keep Tyson from getting inside with their jab. Holmes tried but was over the hill. If I was betting that fight I would have bet on Tyson if they fought 7 years earlier.
I am finally glad that somebody is recognizing the body of work that Lennox Lewis put forth and the résumé that he built during his boxing career I met him in Jamaica and he was one of the finest human beings I have ever encountered in my life he was so humble and so professional it’s hard to believe that inside of the ring that man was capable of that kind of damage.
@@mrgonzales5683 Who cares? Lennox was a giant, Holyfield was a tiny Cruiserweight. Pepperidge farm remembers, and so do I. Who is the last UNDISPUTED heavyweight champion of the world? It ain't Headbutt Holyfield. Lmao. Dipshit.
He was pretty good at not hurting an opponent who was really vulnerable/on his last legs. I think he was as decent in the ring as he could be. Some of the guys he faced like Ruddock and Tyson were really dangerous fighters, as we all know.
I bet its a copyright issue of sorts, not sure why they didnt say that or give a heads up, but Tyson Lewis is pretty big fight so maybe to stay monetized they had to remove audio or something, it pops back in after that fight.
Nice guys usually don't get the needed respect. This is why the rock started acting like a jerk after his good boy routine wasn't receiving positive reviews. This is why Tyson is always in everyones mouth. And muhammad ali.
Bruno's physique was insane looking... Almost angular in it's ultra definition. I've read that probably hindered him more than help as he would gas if he didn't KO his opponents, I think he still has one of the highest KO ratios of any heavyweight champion in history.
@@xmlewis3152 TKO6 keep crying. Lewis gave Vitali 4 different gashes and carved a masterpiece on his face when he was overweight and 2 months from 38 years old
There’s no doubt Lewis was a great boxer and champion, but Vitali was winning that fight until the cut forced the stoppage. Lewis ducked out of a rematch which for me slightly taints his legacy
sorry to interfere ,however I confirm that Lewis never ducked a fight .He had announced his retirement before the Vitali fight and wasn't even supposed to face him at all.Vitali (whom I consider another amazing champ ) was 6 years younger and in way better shape .It was a great close fight in which Lennox prevailed .Sometimes one shot can end a fight ,like it happened with Delahoya vs Hopkins etc.. That said lewis went out his comfort zone and postponed retirement to face the Great Vitali and once again proved to be the best .There hasn't been any rematch simply cause he retired from the sport and honestly I confidently say that Lewis would never withdraw or fear anyone ,he is a real fighter and warrior .We will never know if Vitali could have won the rematch what we know for sure is that Lewis did not avoid him for fear .

Lennox is and always will be my favourite boxer ever, used to watch all his fights when I was younger courtesy of my dad as he was such a massive fan. Undoubtedly the best to do it
He only faced 9 ranked fighters in 44 fights. Glass Jaw. One of the worst to do it. That's why Lennox is ranked so low. 44 cherry-picks and still got knocked out easily
We all know Lennox Lewis was a great fighter but somehow forgot how great he truly was! To be a champion of his caliber in what was arguably the most dominant heavyweights of all time says a lot.
Lennox Lewis got better as his career progressed. He dedicated himself to the sport and got better with time, improving his boxing skills. He was a thinking fighter, certainly one of the best heavyweight boxers of ALL TIME.

The Vindicator Tyson 'a shell' June 6, 2002 at 12:00a.m. If this were the Mike Tyson of years ago, Emanuel Steward might be a little more worried. Steward, who trains Lennox Lewis, thinks Tyson is just a shell of the fighter he once was. Tyson is expected to be an underdog for the first time in his career when he meets Lewis for his heavyweight titles Saturday night at the Pyramid Arena in Memphis, Tenn. “Everybody is holding on to that image of Mike Tyson of 12, 13 years ago,” Steward said. “They don’t want to let that go. But that Mike Tyson is gone"
Boxing: Lewis To Meet Bowe Saturday 18th June, 1994 00:02 LENNOX LEWIS is to defend his World Boxing Council heavyweight title against Riddick Bowe in Las Vegas between November and next May. Lewis will earn pounds 12m and Bowe nearly pounds 9m, according to the champion's financial backer, Pannos Eliades. This depends upon Lewis's successful mandatory defence against Oliver McCall at Wembley in September and Bowe winning a comeback fight after losing his World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation titles to Evander Holyfield last November
Lennox don't get the credit for being the best heavyweight of all time. He wasn't flashy and flaunting, no controversies and so didn't had impact on pop culture. But in sports he is the greatest. He's my favourite of all time. Perfect Blend of Mind and power is what he was.
I think the problem was A: he is British, B: he was the best of a golden era, names such as Larry Holmes, Tyson, Ray Mercer, George Foreman, Riddick Bowe, Holyfield, Frank Bruno, Oliver McCall, Trevor Berbick, Michael Spinks, Tim Witherspoon, Tony Tubbs, easy to get lost in that list.
Lewis showed a lot of class not attacking Oliver McCall in their rematch when McCall dropped his arms and had a nervous breakdown. I could see how the urge to avenge getting knocked out from McCall in their first fight may have made it tempting to try and KO McCall when he became vulnerable. Lewis however, had the perspecacity to realize that something wasn't right with McCall, and showed compassion in not attempting to throw a punch and merely allow the referee to caal the fight. Very class act, and deserving of being a Champion.
McCall's breakdown was likely a culmination of factors. The two primary ones being drugs, and the loss of his trainer (forced out by Don King). McCall had a very tight relationship with Manny Stewart, his trainer. Don King became worried that Stewart might advise McCall to drop Don King (as any good trainer SHOULD), and so he forced McCall to fire Stewart. Being at the fight without the man who trained him to be there pushed McCall over the edge, in my opinion.
Lennox I felt was one those quiet but disciplined dudes who aren’t loud or sell themselves but quietly over the years you suddenly realize is a silent assassin! Like a special forces soldier who just gets the job done without the need for fame, just a professional. Also a family man. Solid man all round.
He used to trash talk all the time haha watch the Bruno v Tyson documentary, he's a proper arsehole :D Lewis got me into the sport but he had the necessary spite to be the top HW, and not just in the way he fought.
Watching this reminds me that Lewis ducked no one. He fought absolutely everyone. A true warrior and boxing legend. We'll never see another heavyweight like him.
Lewis was just beautiful to watch. Clean, clinical, accurate, intelligent, smart, efficient, explosive, and stylish boxer. Thanks very much champ. Live the fabulous life, which you deserved
This is exactly what I was going to say. He sounded so calm and well spoken after his fights you would think he had just come back from a brisk walk, not an epic battle...
@@goonerboy93 Only Tyson Fury would have a chance of possibly being a contender back then, the rest of today's HW boxers would not be near the top 20 at the time.
Some people are nostalgic about Ali and Tyson but Lewis is the true goat. Even Ali didn't go up against the consistent quality that Lewis did, fight after fight, and he beat them all. Tyson was fast and fearsome for a short time but Lewis had outstanding accuracy, power, stamina and a great chin, over a much longer period. Great video, thanks!
He fought them all and he beat them all. Tyson, Holyfield, Tua, Golota, Klitschko, and the rest of his era. A living legend. Highly underappreciated and overlooked.
I grew up in the 70`s and 80`s and was blessed to watch so many great fighters and fights. In the Heavyweight division when a fighter landed a good shot and hurt the opponent the opponent could usually weather the storm and survive the round. Lennox is the ONLY fighter who, once he had you in trouble, there was NO way back,....NO escape. It was over.

@@ryanclark9386 True, Lennox was tougher than Vitali and the latter himself was no slouch, Vitali, if I remember correctly, had been a world kickboxing champ before switching to boxing, with a cast iron chin and perhaps the only heavyweight boxer to be never behind on the scorecards in any fight. The fact that Lennox was getting beaten soundly and yet managed to come back strongly in the fourth, fifth and sixth round and cap off his career with a strong, but controversial, TKO speaks volumes about his greatness. As the great trainer, Manny Steward said, Lennox is the LAST TRUE GREAT HEAVYWEIGHT.
Greatest heavyweight since Ali - not just because he was a great boxer-puncher, but also because he avenged his KO losses. It takes a lot of mental fortitude to come back and decisively beat the person that put you down for a 10 count.
With Fury being flavour of the month there is no way he fought the same class of fighters as Lewis nor the same amount of fights. Lewis was the real deal champ.

Bingo....you just said it....if Lewis was an American, he would be thought of along with Ali at the top......Lewis was amazing......his two losses were fluke punches. One of them Lewis was screwing around and smiling and got nailed with a punch. When he was ON and focused, he was unbeatable....both guys he lost to he absolutely destroyed in their rematches. He gets knocked as he didnt fight some of the best in their PRIME (Tyson / Holyfield / Bowe) but it wasnt for a lack of trying.....He used his reach so incredibly well. Lewis would take the guys shots the first few rounds while sizing him up, then about round 4 or so would begin dissecting the guy with his reach, jabs and that outstanding right hand. So Lewis had a good chin as well, taking opponent's freshest shots in early rounds before going into destroy mode.
He’s also one of the very few Brits who has gone to US to fight before even fighting for the title - that shows his difference in class to most other boxers from our shores

The ring IQ and generalship of Lennox Lewis is unmatched. I feel like he worked exceptionally good under pressure but was getting bored too quick when he was overpowering his opponents. So came that Rahman knockout. The only thing I wish we would've seen him against a well prepared Mike Tyson, not that emotional rollercoaster Lennox fought. Regardless, Lewis for me personally is the greatest heavyweight of the 90s, and that says too much when we know how stacked the division was.
Thank you for this video. I didn't get to know Lennox enough as a boxer because of all the other boxers that were boxing at the time so I never gave him enough credit. But after watching this, I am a true believer. I wish I had paid more attention. Respect to Lennox Lewis!!
One of the most underrated boxes of all time. The guy was totally dominant and couldn't buy the respect he deserved. He just got better and better (Emanuel Steward had that effect on fighters). He was a complete boxer-puncher and a total class act. He didn't show boat and disrespect his opponents (Ali/Roy Jones/Ray Leonard) he just went out there and handled his business. He also became a great commentator post boxing career. Loved watching this guy fight and glad he ended up finally being recognized as an elite all-time heavyweight towards the end of his boxing career.
I largely agree with your comments. I think Lennox being a Brit (non-rabid, somewhat reserved demeanor, well-spoken) didn't help the public perception of him being an ALL-TIME great heavyweight. And as Lennox wasn't flamboyant like Ali, nor did he have that savage-like attitude (the way Tyson was in his prime), so it simply took longer for the public to finally come to the collective "This guy ducks no one, and beats almost everybody, so he's a legit elite heavyweight" revelation. But, yeah, I do think him being a Brit didn't help the perception of HOW skilled/tough he actually was in the ring. That said, aside from Ali and Tyson in his prime, I don't know that there's been a better heavyweight over time than Lewis.
@@ziginaigra How did he avoid Tyson? Tyson was the one who paid step aside money to Lewis in order to fight what they believed to be a finished Holyfield.
The greatest ever. It amazes me how everyone forgets he had every tool in the box. He just never shot his mouth off, which probably lost him points in the popularity contests.
no one forgets. Just Americans. They have a real problem with it. Holyfield can talk about his whole life in an interview....never mentions Lewis. Larry Holmes will never acknowledge Lewis and there's quite a few other American fighters who won't.
As a Brit I was ashamed that more Brits didn't take him to heart more. I did but like other Brits at the time found myself outnumbered by Brits who had loyalty to Frank Bruno and were so small minded they were put off by the Canadian accent despite the fact that his mum was a proud Brit who raised him there as it was a much better environment for him. Lennox seemed to have a knack of when he'd beat everybody there was to beat he'd fight someone who no one thought had a chance and lose to a lucky punch but when it was a big fight against a feared opponent he always came up trumps. It did end up hurting his legacy though. Still my favourite KO of all time was his 1-2 KO of Rahman. The sound of it is perfect
