I just bought one. It seemed to be fine but when I turned it on for the 4th time with the charger connected some dead pixels started to appear and disappear. So I disconnected the charger and restarted it again. And the issue was gone for some reason. My guess is I connected the power cable to a switch which was also plugged to the refrigerator. Can someone explain what that was

My kids bought me the pro 5 to replsce my 14 year old 17" Gateway FX P-7805U. It still works, even the original power brick and the original battery still holds a 40 minute charge. I am very impressed with my Legion 5 pro gen 7. I'm using that old Gateway as my garage laptop. Hoping my Legion lasts over 14 years.
Toolkit is a 3rd party tool to replace vantage. Hybrid mode works perfect on these new chips with RDNA2. I don't notice any performance difference so I just leave it in hybrid. I do have to make sure GPU is inactive when I unplug though. Plus you can do some light gaming on Integrated GPU on battery with decent battery life.
@@Tom67Slick hybrid mode deactivates the power hungry dedicated GPU when you're on battery power. Yea if you're always plugged in, go for dGPU mode. I experienced 64% better FPS in Dishonored death to the outsiders on dGPU mode compared to hybrid. I was mistaken in my original comment, but whether or not it's noticeable depends on the game I guess
I'm considering this laptop and was wondering about the battery life for casual stuff like web browsing and streaming. Also, do you know if Type-C charging would allow better iGPU gaming performance?
I have the 3070ti version of this one, was amazed it played Hogwarts legacy on hybrid mode not even that bad before I realized I forgot to switch. Bought it without windows, saved a 100euro and I got it junk free ^^
@@-mystic-93 I would NOT buy the 3060 model. $1400 (USD?) for a 3070 model is very acceptable. Compare to to say and asus with a 3070ti, you’ll be paying 25-30% more for a weaker laptop. Imo pull the trigger on the 3070ti
@@-mystic-93 I use my regularly. With general battery saving options enabled it’s about 6-7 hours of generic use. If you are doing intensive tasks it dies about twice as fast. If you really lower settings you can get 8 hours
I have the 3070ti version and it is a great laptop. Great screen, great performance, completely quiet in quiet mode, great keyboard, great build quality, and great battery life for this form factor. The only thing I didn't like were the weak speakers. Also, although this model (from 2022) already did away with the glowing Legion logo on the lid, the exhaust vents still look gamery and the 2023 models do a better job toning that down even further. Also this model is probably the only Legion model of the last two years that does not allow the screen to tilt back all the way to 180 degrees. Not a big deal at all, but sometimes I am standing right on top of the laptop and need to type a quick email and it would be nice to be able to push the screen back more. The 2023 models have addressed this. I will probably be selling mine to get the LS7 2023, as I have started going to coffee shops more to work and the L5P is a little too heavy for that. However, I wish the AMD version of the LS7 had a 4070 GPU option. I am not a heavy gamer but like to dabble so the 4060 will be fine -- but having the AMD and 4070 combo would help to future proof the LS7 (2023) for an extra year or so compared to having a 4060 (and I don't want an Intel CPU due to inferior battery life). It's really annoying that Lenovo's laptops seem to sometimes nerf the AMD models with fewer upgrade options. Lenovo - are you paying attention??!!
Don’t remove original thermal paste. Honeywell ptm 7950is “two phase” pad, not paste. Solid when cold and liquid when hot, has better properties compared to regular mx4 and staff like that. And usually it can be bought only in china.

I found it had really good coverage as is, so unless there are horrible temps, i think most people should leave it alone. Sorry, my comment was not complete. I saw you didn’t not remove it, just wanted to warn other people in case they willing to do it but as I mentioned it is not regular thermal paste which has way worse temperature scattering properties and not easy to find. You can search on youtube “ptm 7950 thermal pad” thats what lenovo use. And whats regarding cpu temperatures - I have lowered my 6800h cpu power consumption in turboboost mode almost without performance loss. Now have maximum 73’c on cpu in games. Very satisfied
I have the same machine, only with an i9. My battery runs low a bit fast, less than 2 hours. Still I'm super satisfied as it's Gaming potential is amazing.

Thanks i really enjoyed your video. Today, I just purchased a Lenovo Legion 5 Gen 7 AMD Laptop, 15.6" FHD 165hz IPS Narrow Bezel, Ryzen 7 6800H 3070ti 2TB for a very good price. Lenovo is probably making room for the 4000s. It is gonna be my first gaming laptop ever. I intend to plug it sometimes to my 60hz 1080p plasma tv for gaming. What is the difference between the 5 & the 5 pro ? Also, if i use it for 2-3 hours of gaming everyday, how long can i expect the laptop to last before a part becomes defective ? Should i get a Laptop Cooling Pad ?
Ah you snagged one of those cheap one listed today in Canada?! Nice nice. The 5 pro has a better screen (1600p versus 1080p) if that matters to you. That’s the biggest difference tbh. The outer casing material is a bit different, but from a performance standpoint they are near identical. The 3070ti you snagged is 140watt (that’s high versus my 3070 at 150 watt (very high). So they will probably perform about the same I play games at 1600p with very high frames, and you can expect even better on your screen. Plugged into an external display you will still keep up with even 4K at moderate settings Basically the difference is: you have a lower resolution screen, but you also paid a lot less than I did. Performance wise they will be identical more or less. Good buy trust me. This laptop will be solid gold for a few years to come. The legion cools it’s internals VERY well, so lower temperatures means lower stress on parts, which means longer life You can get a laptop cooling pad. It might lose temps a little bit. It doesn’t NEED one, but it’s never a bad idea for what? $20? Also note: legions come with a good default warranty, so be sure to register your laptop with Lenovo vantage. After that I’d recommend getting Legion Toolkit. It unlocks a lot of control potential of the laptop

Anyway, i was checking the A770 16G GPU & coupled with a I3-12100f CPU this is the best value ever if INTEL keeps improving its drivers. I am still on the fence tho coz Intel could still just abandon it.

If you use toolkit, uninstall vantage. You don't need both and toolkit is lighter weight. You can setup toolkit in the Actions menu to automatically switch to 60hz mode when you unplug to run on batteries and then automatically switch back to 165Hz on power. Nahimic improves the audio significantly. the auto mode is a waste of time. I tend to use the communication preset with some extra EQ tweaks on my 2021 model The thermal past is honewell phase change material. It works better that just about anything other than liquid metal. Looks like you had not used the laptop much when you took the heatsink off. it should melt the paste and improve over a days or twos use. Performance mode runs the cpu at 82W and the gpu can draw up to 140W. balanced mode the cpu is at about 65W and the GPU will only boost to 140W in a fixed list of games. 90W if the game is not on the list (on a 3060)
Yes I’ve been using legion toolkit for a month or so. It’s great, especially on a hybrid mode as you say This gpu can actually draw 150 watts. I think last years model and the non pro do 140 watts. (The 3060 in this model is 140 and the other two variants are 150watt)
@@TechGuyBeau the 2021 l5p 3060 model came with a 130W gpu but I have cross flashed my vbios to a 140W vbios from a 2022 legion 5. Small but noticable performance bump. I don't think that the 3070 gets an opportunity to flash a better vbios. the 2021 was also a 150W.

Hi, I have this same system except with a 3070 ti, when in a game I noticed cpu watts stay around 32 watts, I'm in performance mode, my gpu gets around 148w close to max, is this right? But you said cpu supposed to be 60 watts?
I'm so torn, I recently bought the 5i pro and I like it but the bulk, the plastic trackpad, and the lack of fingerprint/IR bother me. I'm tempted to get the Slim 7 instead but know soldered memory can really limit it. It's also slightly more expensive with worse specs (I guess that's the trade-off for metal construction, fingerprint sensor, and a better camera). Which do you prefer if you had to pick?
I sold me slim for the pro. But that’s because I’m not moving around much. If I was taking the laptop with me every day I would go slim for sure Option 3: legion 7 Gen 7 Same build as slim 7. But beefier. I have a video on that laptop too (I’ve reviewed the whole legion lineup apparently lol)

No. The 4060 will not outperform a 3070. They are basically the same. Right now I’m using the 6850m xt legion 7 as the much higher vram is way more important to me. 12 gb of vram is more futureproof than 8gb in a 3070 or 4060. Also the 6850m xt is way more powerful. You do lose dlss, but most games support fsr anyways. Personally Im not interested in this years legions. They are very expensive and don’t offer any improvements really. You’d need to get a 4080 to see any improvements, which I don’t think is being released Personally I’d you can land a 3070ti or 6850m xt legion for a good price it’s the smartest move

3070ti is typically paired with a 6800h, which is quite a lot better than the 5800h in many ways. So if you go amd on the legion 5 or 5 pro get the 6800h+3070(ti) 1600p is incredible. Once you see it, you will be converted Here is my gripe: if you want to use any of these options for 5 years, you’re going to have issues. All of the listed GPUs (3070,3070ti, and 6800s) are all 8gb vram. Even in 2023 we are seeing that new games don’t run well on 8gb vram. A 3070 would be a nice option, but if you can find one for a good price, get a legion 7 Gen 7 amd with a 6859m xt. That’s what I’m typing on now (and have a video about it). It has a very very powerful gpu (appx 3080 or 3080ti power) and have 12gb vram. Much more future proof
I got that machine a week ago. It’s great. You made two mistakes in this review. First, I’m pretty sure your docking station is a USB-C docking station that communicates at 10 Gbit, not a USB4, because I looked at Amazon and that manufacturer / rebrander only sells a 10 Gbit station that looks like yours. The second mistake is that the USB-C port you had it plugged into on the L5Pro is NOT the port that has USB4. You used the port that connects directly to the Nvidia chip. The one closer to the rear has the direct connection to the AMD chip, and USB4. At least that’s what the documentation says. I can verify that port connects to the CPU and not to the Nvidia chip. But I don’t have any thunderbolt accessories with which to verify USB4 support. But from the looks of things, you don’t either. Anyway, I was hoping for a closeup of the chips and to see which one was the CPU and which was the GPU. Oh well. But still, good review!
Yeah the rear left port is definitely the usb4. The dock itself supports more than 10gbit if you get the pro version. It’s not a thunbserbolt but claims usb4. It can handle 2 x4k displays plus all the other stuff Technically 2 4k60hz will exceed 10gbit by quote a lot, even with compression. They could certainly be lying but it is definitely over 10gbit by quite a bit. I have no affiliation with them at all I tested it in a video doing 4k video, transferring from the nvme, and several other ports at the same time (such as a dongle with gigabit Ethernet). I can’t verify it’s 40gbit but it’s definitely more than 10 I emailed then before I bought it, the English was a bit off but they explained even the non pro could support dual 4K although one must be through usb c. Either way for the price I would say the pro model is better since it had the nvme and other ports, but also adds a second 4K capable hdmi and Ethernet. You can certainly get another dock brand though, such as anker, although they are out of my price range 😵💫
@@TechGuyBeau I don’t want to drop $$$ on a thunderbolt hub either. I think the way it works is that the DisplayPort Alt mode can use higher bandwidth than the USB functionality that it lives beside. Because DP 1.4 is like 30 Gbit all by itself, which can supply two 4k60 monitors. So there’s enough display output on this L5pro to power 6 4k60 displays, plus the native display, plus whatever you want to plug into the HDMI port. I guess that’s all a long way to say that if all USB4 is doing is formatting USB data to travel the more compact way that the DP 1.4 data travels, then I don’t know if it’s actually necessary if your intent is not to get 40 Gbit of arbitrary-format data, but for most of the data to be DisplayPort anyway. Short version: the way you’re using the hub, it might be close enough to USB4 that it makes no difference I guess. Anyway, your review was the first I saw that even mentioned the USB4 or even verified external display capabilities, so kudos on actually thinking about how people are likely to want to use their machines. I don’t comment on reviews or videos that suck.
Yeah I definitely do like the boost to usb 4 over 10gbit, although the laptop has so many ports it may not matter as much as say an ultrabook. The thinkpad z13 I reviewed only had two, but luckily both were usb4
i just get your same machine with 1400$, and its really really good, while the i7 3060 have the same price with this, the only problem is its not have advanced optimus
Depends on workload. On silent mod when doing productivity tasks it’s probably 7 hours with the screen at 165 hz. You can get more if you turn things down, but I like fast refresh

Perfect, i just bought the laptop, but its kinda expensive here, was thinkin to get i7 gen 12 with 3060, after i think alot i guess ill need more 3070 even its only with r7 6800h which is 10% -+ slower than i7 gen 12
The cpu won’t matter in gaming. Intel Has a tiny bit more power plugged in, amd has more battery life and better battery performance. But realistically if you are able to get a 3070 it’s a better buy (even if only for vram)

I bought this device a week ago and I faced a big problem with it, which is the delay in the sound and image. There is always a delay in the sound than the image in all parts of the system, in games, programs and browsers. I have tried in more than one way to solve the problem by removing all the Driver of the graphics and sound cards, but Unfortunately, the problem was not solved

I have the same PC, but I'm having problems while playing some games. I don't know if it's normal but in general my CPU works more than the GPU, even reaching 100% on Battlefield 2042. Could you explain why? Thanks and nice video full of information

I true love this laptop so bad since I got it (got the 2021 version I guess), overall is a beast, my only complaint is that recently I got a cold r banding issue that wasn't happening before and as an artist it affects much when it comes to shading. Never found a fix I even formated it
What do you mean by that? Cold r banding? I’m thinking of buying this for 3D max use and sometimes gaming. But no point buying it if 3D max won’t perform well cuz that’s my main use.
It supports 64. But it won’t run faster than 4800. You might be able to overclock with third party software but I don’t think the 6000 series supports it natively. Even this years model (7000 series) comes with 5600 but it runs at 5200mhz
The middle one then. 6900hx will boost A bit higher than 6800h. Both amd processors are superior to the 12700 in terms of battery life and heat. They will perform about the same in raw power.
Do you want to play games with it plugged in. However if you’re worried about damaging the battery by having a charged all the time, go to Lenovo vantage software and turn on battery conservation
@@TechGuyBeau also when i looked at bottleneck testinst with this laptop on 2560x1600 resolution, some websites advise me to reduce resolution to play games on ultra. Remind it has 6800h processor and 3070 8gb 16 ram
Windows 11 and 10 are interchangeable. But you can upgrade to 11 for free still anyways form 10 The 3070 in this laptop is the highest watt on the market. It will perform entirely fine at 1600p In some rare rare games you might need to reduce, however I’ve found I can pretty much max most games and play. Don’t overthink that, this is a great laptop GPU, one of the best

Why compare it with slim 7, not 7? I have almost exactly the same model as yours but mine's 3070ti version. Been planning to switch it to legion 7 and looking for side by side comparison between the two
Simply put, the slim and the 7 are nearly identical. The 7 is a bit thicker, and of course has different gpu. But in terms of design language the 7 and slim are identical outside of thickness
Heyy, are all the type C ports connected to the DGPU? I wanna be able to use an external monitor with dgpu disabled. So i need atleast one of the type C port to be connected to the iGPU
It’s good, so long as you can keep it under 8gb vram. The other option would be a 6850m xt legion 7 (which is much more powerful) or a 3080 laptop (also more vram)

Well, Canada does have dramatically lower prices than Germany overall. The other thing is waiting on discounts. Lenovo often changes their discounts frequently, so keep checking. Its hard to compare one market to another however.

@@jdsd_ There are a couple things to consider 1. 4000 series nvidia laptops are coming out in a couple weeks. This means "old" 3000 series might drop in price. 2. What are the prices of similarly spec'd laptops? a 4060 laptop should in theory perform somewhat like this 3070 laptop. based on German markets, that isnt a bad price by any means. I check the German website, it looks like 1630 Euro right now. This legion, in my opinion, is probably the best gaming laptop for the price (considering build quality, performance per dollar, etc). So if you see it go on a sale, its definitely worth buying. If you check my channel ive switched laptops a lot for review purposes. However i am typing on this specific laptop right now, so clearly its a good one :)
I kept the pro. The slim is definitely slimmer with better audio, but the pro has much better performance GPU wise, dual nvme, and dual sodimm slots for RAM. The slim is hands down the most powerful slim laptop I’ve ever used though, so for portability it’s a no brainer whatsoever. But if you want a super powerful gaming laptop that is also very premium, the 5 pro is absolutely killer

The 2023 model has a similar gpu but a better cpu. If the prices are similar get the 2023 legion 5 pro amd 4060. Great laptop (I have a drive of it in fact)
@@etson32 I wouldn’t change the pads unless they are damaged tbh. You can also check your performance modes, and or do things like disable aggressive cpu boost in windows
@@TechGuyBeau Thanks it works but I lose 10 fps or more, I'm looking to have the maximum performance with the fans without much noise and with good temperatures at least 79 degrees on the gpu using 150w to prevent the frequencies from dropping. I have the legion 5 pro r9 6900hx rtx 3070ti and limiting myself to not overclocking the CPU and GPU makes my purchase not justified.
@@TechGuyBeau already loose on the right side just the left side won’t lift off. Hitting 100c consistently wanted to see if I could make it better. I had a Helios that I returned right before this one and I had to repaste it also since it was even worse
Those temperatures are pretty abnormal yeah. Is the bottom being blocked or is it elevated? The removal of the cooling unit shouldn’t be too bad, just make sure there are no hidden screws under any tape. Once you are confident in that it might have some resistance when removing. Be very careful Typically these units use a Honeywell phase shifting material that should be very good. Assuming your coverage is adequate I don’t see a need to replace, but perhaps the application was poor
I have laptop like this series, i want to ask, when i play game like DYING LIGHT or Far Cry 5, my GPU Laptop so hot, its 80-86 Celcius, is that normal if i play like that for long time?

It’s definitely a paste of some sort. Perhaps different models use that? Maybe Intel? The legion 5, pro, 7 and 7 slim I’ve opened all use paste on both cpu and gpu
Hi, I have this laptop and I have an issue where the sleep mode crashes the laptop and I have to force shut down by holding down the power button then switch it on again to get it working. Do you have that problem or know why that might be? I recently sent the laptop back to Lenovo and they replaced the motherboard. The issue is still there. Just want to hear your thoughts. Thanks.

MSF2020 is giving me on this laptop 15 FPS max -- on ultra - initially when i got this in DEC 2022 i was getting 45 easy, now down to 15. whats wrong ?? any clue ?? i have reinstalled the game too - made a lot of changes as per 100s of youtube videos but nothing is haoppening - Forza and other gams run good - although 1 issue is Forza 4 runs 200 FPS on ultra and Forza 5 - struggles at 60 to 80

It’s a huge upgrade, BUT how much can you sell yours for? If you are going to lose a lot of money just hold off. If the sale of yours can finance a good portion of the 3070ti model, go for it
My 12700H / 3070 Ti Legion 5i Pro runs @ 95 degress CPU average and 85-87 GPU when I play RUST. What the hell is going on? I've only had it for a month!
@@TechGuyBeau Yeah I hear that, but 94-99 degrees, with fans on MAX 24/7 and its suspended up 5 inches in the air on a laptop stand. The critical limit for the cpu is 105 degrees right? But it feels like I get thermal throttling in Unity engine games😐
