Hi, I bought a 2024 dell g15 1900x1080p 1ms 360 and 2tbssd intel core 13th i7 and RTX 4060 8GB AND 32GB 4200MHZ 2024 model is it any good if it works perfectly form pls review it only if it those Jared
do have any issue with Lenovo spectrum disappearing ? as i have the legion 5 pro gen 9, i9 14900hx variation and am having issue with sepctrum get hidden from vantage after 30 minutes after installation. i read everywhere and change the new laptop twice by lenovo and still the same thing.
I wonder how is dust accumulation over some time(a few months) and I think that is the one of most essential thing for laptop's cooling capacity ,however nobody talks about it.
Iv got this laptop also, its pushing steady 100fps MW3 normal settings with high textures on an external 27" 1440p panel, temps 75 cpu 80 gpu (im using ryzen controller to keep cpu at 75). Im tempted to buy a 4080 but 5080 here in 9 months, do i wait..... 🤔
Mine died few weeks ago during the bios update, tried 2 different pc repair shops, diagnostics from both said that the motherboard needs to be replaced, but not worth the price. I am going to buy this one Jarrod reviewed. It was a good machine tho.
I can't find any older models in my country whenever newer models comes out, even if I did found them they are extremely overpriced that it's better to buy the new models instead.
@@RusyaidiDzulkifli yeah same here in germany, except for month july I saw it went down to 1300 euros (legion 7 with rtx 3070 ti and i7 12800hx) sadly I didnt buy it I regret it so bad. gen 7 2022 is peak legion imo due to its build quality
4070 bad choice for mid range laptop. Just a bit faster than 4060 but price from different category. You can buy Slim 5 with 4060 + R5/R7 and get almost same performance for ~$1200
Once again a brilliant review Jarrod! Is the Slim 5 Gen 9 review coming soon too? Excited to see if there's any real difference in cooling from the 7840HS Slim 5 from last year.
Thanks, I don't thnk they're planning on sending it, but we'd probably declone anyway as I don't think it has any differences other than the CPU change, which is still Zen 4 (for now, maybe they will do a Zen 5 one soon)
What I'm not liking about Lenovo is that their design for the 5i Pro is not really improving by that much each year. Sure, the hardware changes, but if you look to a 2021 5 pro, and then the ones from the 3 years, it really just changes internally aside from the logo on the lid. Like, keyboard layout is the same, the 16:10 aspect ratio 2k screen has been the same or similar enough, the backlight is the same with the 4 zones. Considering the fact a 3070ti is extremely similar to a 4070, and the 2022 laptop can be found for like half the price if not less, I don't really see the reason to upgrade from an older model unless you really need the CPU upgrade
That's true. It's quite a large difference from this year's ASUS Zephyrus series, which got a new updated look with OLED panels. Upgradability did go down though.
Hi Jarrod ..montherboards are dying in Lenovo Loq which comes with intel 13th and 14th HX processors .. happening in large no.. I have details of around 15-20 people who faced motherboard dead issues with 1-3 months of laptop purchase
I asked Lenovo and they said that they have found a very small number of cases (relative to the total number of LOQ laptops sold) and are actively looking into it.
@@JarrodsTech thanks Jarrod .. I made video on this topic on my channel .. I will talk to venomtech on this..but this guy venomtech was saying battery drop is normal 😂…it’s hard to trust sponsored tech RU-vidr in India
80W-85W on the CPU with 100W power draw by the GPU is impressive stuff and it's interesting to see this 14700HX implementation beating CPUs that should theoretically perform better. 19:20 Hell yeah new 3D Mark benchmark added. :)
I have the Legion 5i pro 2023 with the rtx 4070 and 240hz screen. Still running super fast. Basically no different to the new one expect for more ports at the back of the laptop on the old one.
Do u use it with game, code or render roughly? Have u met any problem after using it for a year. Im about buying 2023 version and just want to know if yours still fine after that workload I mentioned above😂
@@huyle9635 I use it to play games and Autocad. Running Autocad super smooth so it can handle extreme work loads. Pretty much maxes out every game also. Maxes out warzone easily, especially if you connect it to an external screen, then you will get around 10-15% more fps. Only small problem is battery time while running heavy loads, other tham that no problems at all.
What I don't like about Lenovo's Legion nowadays is the lack of display options in the high end and the downgrade of the 5 Pro meaning that Lenovo won't be my next option, sadly bc I enjoy their 5 Pro 5000,
The downgrade of the 5 pro becomes irrelevant the moment you start comparing it to the competition that's on the market at the same time. It's usually at the top or near the top of the best value for money list, whatever it's called.
@@MyRealName How it become irrelevant? Just bc still good doesn't mean as a client I don't want it better and the price still the same or went up due the 4000 series, which due Nvidia faults wasn't any better than the 3000 (at least from the 4070 and below), they cut many great feature like USB 4 or Rj45.
They released a fantastic display on the Legion Slim 5 14" with an OLED WQXGA 16 : 10, but somehow failed to deliver similar OLED panels on other laptops of the Legion series.
@@ctrl_x1770 exactly and for the legion that probably would use it the less, I mean, if gaming is what you're looking for, would rarely be in a 14inch. Also, they have launch multiple legions with miniled display for the Chinese market only, meaning that the limitations is only a corporate one and no a technical.
@TVCHLORD And most people like that. It looks more profesional and tasteful than all of the gamer aesthetic designs. Go back to your RGB unicorn vomit!
Jarrod, I think I figured out the heating on the cooling pad. The back of a cooling pad is the most open and with all the hot air moving out the back of the legion 5 it's just pulling in heated air. I found with my cooling pad if I lift the front a little off the ground, maybe a centimeter, then it improves cooling but I also have the LOQ 15IRH8 4060 which has side and back venting.
disabling cpu turbo boost on legion 5 pro 2023 was the best decision ever for keeping temps below 80 while gaming instead of 95+ leaving this here in case someone struggling with same stuff xd edit : i noticed 0 fps loss after doing this in my case to disable the boost i just set max cpu power to 99% in windows power management and i think i had to enable cpu overclock from bios for this to take effect Edit 2: Mine is the one with 7745hx and 4070
I have no jdea why no one like this... it also gaved me a heart attack... maybe the others didnt like this becauze they have a major heart attach and didnt survive.. thank fully i barely survive... i habe 3 hearts
Can you please do a review of the new Asus A16 2024 with AMD 9 Series and RTX 40 series? please! I think that is a laptop that most of the people are curious about in 2024. It also newly came out. so Please!! 🙏🙏
Love your videos! I can literally sit back and watch every video you upload because of how informative they are and entertaining as well. Quick question: I'm looking for a 17/18 inch gaming laptop, do you have any recommendations? (Ideally 4060 but if there is none I can consider 3080/3080ti as well. Battery doesn't matter as I will be using it while charging, I don't want fans to be super loud like Acer Predator but otherwise I don't really care if they are little loud just not like an airplane :D and finally I want it to be built well so it can last for years to come, I consider second hand laptops as well from Ebay, my budget is $1200) I'll really appreciate if you can recommend something!
@@stuntmonkey3550 i have a 2020 legion 5 (10750h rtx 2060) and you can. but with mid quality. red dead 2 is at 60 when in mid quality. which is fine enough. but dont expect crazy extreme settings with 200+ fps.
Would be an instant buy if Lenovo would finally allow (real) custom fan control. The forums are full of requests and complaints but Lenovo simply does not care. Look at 10:09, where temperatures on Balance are just ice cold. The fans could spin much quieter but Lenovo let them get up to 48 db which is too loud to play in the living room or with external speakers. I don't want to be forced to wear headphones when temperatures are so low that the fans could be much quieter. In custom mode you can not fix it, because Lenovo prevents you from lowering the fan sliders -_- Many other vendors like Asus, HP, XMG or their Linux subbrand Tuxedo all allow real fan control which is mandatory to optimize performance and fan noise.
Hey choosing between same priced 2023 models: STRIX G16(4060/i7-13650HX/1920x1200) and Lenovo Legion 5(4060/i5-13450HX/2560x1600p) or TUF 2024 (4060/i7-13650HX/1920x1200)????
The Ryzen is only available for the Legion slim only? Is there a significant difference between the default cpu for the 5i and the 5 slim? Which CPU should one pick?
Ethernet with all the USB-A ports on the right side is a deal-breaker for me. I would rather have air vents on the side with most of the ports on the back like it used to be.
I bought this laptop Today and battery sucks 1.5hr while idle not even RU-vid will it increase with time as I've just charged it to 100 and let it drain as people mention this to to first time
>Missed opportunity to introduce Core Ultra 7 to a mainstream laptop >Uses overkill HX processor instead with dinky 4070, CPU advantage in gaming disappears from 1440p upwards to the point that a 5 Slim 4070 would likely match it based on the TUF A15 4070 results >Worse port layout than Slim model despite the extra volume The Legion Normal/Slim/Pro fragmentation has been a mess.
8 GB of Vram and 1440p.. my 3070Ti was completely worthless after 2 years! So I sold my laptop, I will boycott 1440p on laptops, 1080p is plenty with screens this small. I ended up with a 25" 1080p240 monitor but I later thought why not just get a desktop at this point..🤣 That project ended up north of €2000 with a 26L matx case, Ryzen 7600 and 4080S connected to my OLED TV. Edit: also sold the monitor.
The slim 5 is still the better version even though they are both quite similar. But really the pros are that most of the ports are hidden in the back. Also the Slim 5 has a full SD card and not the small micro SD card. I also believe the additional side vents from the Slim 5 still provides better cooling.
Is it possible to power up a Legion 5 in closed state via docking station (DS)? Like auto start when DS is powered or upon keyboard/mouse (usb) input? Can anybody help? thx.
I think a review of the slim 5 gen 9 might actually be useful despite the apparent lack of changes since last year. laptopmedia recorded some pretty bad temps with this year's but I can't seem to find any pair of reviews of both gen 8 and gen 9 from the same reviewer and so - the same testing conditions.
I kind of want to buy a new gaming laptop but the 1660 TI legion 5 I have is still doing the job, do I wait until GTA 6 so I can get something even better whenever it is released or are we not expecting many changes by then
Why does the battery life sucks so much compared to last year's model? Does the HX chip suck that much more power on light tasks compared to regular H chips? It's really unfortunate that my region doesn't have many last year's model in stock anymore. The slim 5 sold here all have the ryzen 8000 series chips. Found a legion 5 pro from last year that costs more than this legion 5 with the same gpu
Maybe the cooling is reversed, so that instead of having the bottom vents suck up cool air, they blow out hot air, so it doesn't benefit from a cooling pad blowing air underneath it. My Lenovo slim pro 7 does this.
@@gs_08 I know my lenovo slim pro 7 does blow air the other way, I did ask lenovo and they said it was intentional but I don't expect it to be on the legion line of laptops, I haven't tested it, you should look to others for information. I find it counterintuitive because air gets trapped easier on the bottom of the laptop.
Hey Jarrod ! Great video ! I am not a fan of this laptop line, but I wanted to thank you for all the content you are making for us here on this channel ! Now let me take this opportunity to tell you what I would like to hear about in one of your next videos : a "big" SSDs guide & comparison - especially naming the "single-sided" ones. Many laptops allow to install only these and we all have really hard time to find out which SSDs are actually "single-sided". You would help a lot of people by making this video ... or it would help me at least 🙂 🙂 🙂 Greetings from Czechia (the opposite side of the Globe as you know it).
I got the LOQ 15IRH8 i7 RTX4060 1TB and its really decent in terms of performance but battery just isn't great. Do you know if the 80Wh will fit in as it comes with the 60Wh, it is said to have enough space for a bigger battery but not sure if enough?
Hi Jarrod, i subscribe you for a quite very long time, your videos helped me choose my dream laptop that i am in love with for 2 years now. Small suggestion - could you even shortly, show how laptop is behaving when charging through USBC? I have found out that it differs quite a lot between laptops, for examply my laptop (Legion 16ITH6H) charges through PD with 100W powerbank only when battery is above 80%, when plugged to wall USB-C 140W charger i can play some games, GPU uses lower wattage but in some games charging is being disabled under heavy load, to not overheat some USB-C charging elements i guess? I am suggesting that because no one does as good laptop reviews as you, and no one is going into details of USB-C charging in specific models, short info about that would be amazing. USB-C charging is relevant to some group of people like me, when i take my laptop for short trip and dont want to take big and heavy 300W charger. What i am using and reccomend: 140W Baseus wall charger 100W Baseus Blade powerbank Cheers!
No, take the C170 charger recommended by Lenovo, that charger is the best choice for the Legion series. It is also very small and suitable for your bringing
@@ngocvu3324 My Legion can charge only with around 65W through PD so why would i change my current USB-C charger? Also, it just only got announced to be sold in china for now. And i would rather not use CN plug to EU adapter for so expensive stuff like laptop charger...
At 11:40 could the battery drain be due to the activation of the battery conservation mode? Because in my lenovo when I put the conservation mode it stops charging at 80%. Still a strange behaviour btw.
Well that's the point of conservation mode. It limits the maximum charge to around 75-80% of capacity in order to decrease battery wear and I haven't experienced a limit for max battery power usage in that mode that would differ from other modes, though that may be because of my model.
My main issue is that the Balanced mode already sounds like an airplane taking off, so I play on quiet. Wonder if it is possible to tune the custom mode so that the performance is close to balanced but the fans stay like quiet (maybe by allowing to gpu and cpu run a bit hotter within reasonable margin).
Try experimenting with a frame rate limit in the NVidia drivers while using balanced mode. That way during less demanding parts of the game it can downclock and reduce the fan, so it stays quieter and heat doesn’t build up like when maxing it out.
Not that we've heard. There have been some reports of issues with the LOQ, but Lenovo haven't confirmed that it's widespread and have said that they haven't had more returns than normal.
i am using this laptop from 2 feb in my configuration i got i7 14650hx with rtx 4060 16gb ram and 240hz 500nit pannel and from 2 month im facing the issue with driver which is now fix after bios update in uk its around 1280£ with student discount
Hi I use Legion 5i 10300H GTX 1650ti 16GB RAM Windows 10 170w charger I am getting lower fps in games like valorant - max 50-60 low settings and has fps drops same for GTA 5. When I use the Performance Overlay from NVIDIA, the GPU power is only 15w max when playing games and my graphics card power limit is 50W. Is this could be the problem? How to fix this? Please help. Thank you
I picked up the latest Slim 5 Gen 9 AMD 7735HS/RTX 4070/16GB RAM/IPS WQXGA/1TB SSD for $1150 (Lenovo site). Then I see Best Buy had the Slim 5 14.5" OLED/Ryzen 7840HS/8 GB RAM/RTX 4060/1TB SSD for $980! Another buddy of mine suggested the Zephyrus G14 14/OLED/Ryzen 9 8945HS/16GB RAM/RTX 4060/1TB SSD for $1299 at BB. I'm leaning towards the Slim 5 (16") since it is upgradable (with extra SSD and DIMM slot) and also it has the RTX 4070. But the Slim 5 14.5 is under $1000. What would you recommend?
Hey ! @JarrodsTech once again great review . In india this legion 5i with configuration of i5 13450hx Rtx 4050 Display 1600p 350 nits And Asus Rog strix g16 with i5 13450hx Rtx 4050 Display 1200p 300 nits Costs me nearly the same but i confused between them which would you suggest me because asthetics is great in asus but legion has its own reputation, actually both have reputation Please reply me, you god of laptops
@JarrodsTech can you add or show the backlight bleed of the screen? I have the same laptop but the difference are CPU and GPU I have a 13th gen i7 and RTX 4060 I’m worrying about the backlight bleed on my laptop if its normal or not.
Hi Jarrod. Typing this off my latest lenova legion pro 5 I with intel i7 rtx 4060 1 tb and 32 gb ram that you got me to buy off of b and h for a decent price. Watch so many of your videos before choosing this one. Thank you so much. Best laptop ever!
Hi help me with this one please I got a deal for legion 5 (none pro version) i7-14700hx with rtx 4070 and 165hz display (same laptop as you saw in this video) for about 1500 dollars but I got a deal for legion 5 pro r9 7945hx with rtx 4060 and 240hz display (better display than none pro version) for 1333 dollars so which one you think is better ? Thank you🙏🏼
I want to buy the Acer Nitro v16 anv16-41 it has ryzen 7 8845hs processor, Nvidia rtx 4060. Its currently been disconnected. Please is it a good laptop ?
Legion LOQ and Legion 5i and 7i comes with 170w and 230w chargers which aren’t sufficient to provide enough power…300w charger aren’t expensive..I got one as replacement and the cost was around 40 dollars …but they sell it higher cost on their website
If you do not need a computer immediately, wait to buy any 2024 Intel or AMD gaming/pro laptop. They could be better value. Wait for next-generation chips or buy the current ones for hefty discounts, as they are likely significantly worse in CPU, GPU and NPU performance than upcoming chips.
Are you going to test the new 15.3" 16:10 laptops from XMG/Tongfang? They are quite an interesting chassis promising full power hardware in a package somewhere between compact 14" and standard 16" gaming laptops.
Guys I have the same laptop as soon as I turn my hybrid mode on the screen goes black and the HDMI does not work either.STAY AWAY FROM THESE, I tried everything but nothing seems to work
