Much love and respect to you man! I heard you buy all these devices and are pretty much broke 💀💀 I just wanted to let you know how much viewers appreciate your content. Thanks for what you do, and your in-depth reviews!
Thanks 🙏 Yeah, to date I’ve bought every gaming laptop I’ve ever covered, and about 95% of all laptops overall for review. I guess it’s a business investment, and it really does help me do things my own way. I don’t mind review units whatsoever but I think there needs to be a balance. Otherwise how can someone understand the importance of value? If everything was just sent to me and I was rolling in cash then I don’t think I’d appreciate the importance of good pricing
@@TechGuyBeauthanks you very much man for these reviews, i have been searching for days in internet for the comparison of the new lenovo legion lineup (2024). This is by far the best channel covering these. Also the fact that you buy these make you care for the values by price, which make it more relatable and genuine.
@@3DOMSPEECHUNITY definitely will last you the next 3-4 years. At the end of those years, the card may not be able to run the newest AAA games on high settings but it will probably still be useful
Same, spent ages narrowing down my choices since I need one for uni and i landed on this, it also only cost 30 gbp to updrgae to the 500 nit screen so hopefully thats good. (fingers crossed)
Didn't watch the entire video, but just got this laptop and upgraded its RAM plus added a secondary SSD. Runs all my games on highest settings no issue, well worth picking this Laptop over comparable gaming laptops that start at 1000 bucks more for the same hardware and I hope it lasts me as long as I hope. :)

thank you so much for this video. i was looking for a laptop that i could do everything on, like gaming and lighter stuff like schoolwork, and was considering this laptop. i was waiting for an in depth review like this before buying
Hi, I was looking to buy this laptop for college as well. How has it fared so far? (Battery life is my main concern) and how would you stack it up against r7 7735HS + rtx 4070 variant which is 65 dollars more expensive, is it worth gettimg a better gpu and a much woese cpu for the extra 65 dollars?
Picked up last years model in February and I’ve been loving it. Great machine. Only got it since you were raving about it being the best value gaming laptop.
Silent mode on AMD legions is always the best. Their power management beats any other brand I’ve tested, even asus with the same specs. They really tune silent mode
I completely agree with u I think tech companies should hold playing on silent as the benchmark or the target of the development because it has so many physical benefits to the device
Also can u test Fortnite gameplay on silent balanced… and deferent in game settings that game really does reflect performance capabilities in deferent scenarios
Thank you, great review. I just picked this up and was looking for a Canadian perspective, I just found it (I am also from Calgary 😊). I, unfortunately, saw your review too late, as they gave me limited time to get the deal. Now I need to start upgrading ram and drive space. Keep up the good work 👏
ddr5 runs in dual chanel even if one slot btw …With DDR5, instead of having one 64-bit channel per module, it's split into two 32-bit channels (+8 bits ECC) per module, for more efficient memory access. So it will already show "2x 32-bit" for a single module, even though physically from the board's side, it runs in single-channel mode.
This is exactly what I was going to point out , I would rather have one stick of 16gb running in dual channel that gives me the change to outright upgrade to 32gb by buying one additional module , than give me 2x8gb modules running in quad channel that I'll having to ditch and invest in a 32gb kit to upgrade .
@@abzeed do you know, will any DDR5 RAM with the same speed work? The review said its not a good idea to mix RAM due to some timings (have no idea, not a hardware guy)
Did it have any warranty stickers in the way to get into it for upgrades and cleaning? Cheers for the vid...I just got this for myself but with the screen upgrade.
It should be, however give me some time. I have the 7i in my office right now ready to be unboxed and reviewed. If last year was any indication then it will run very quiet in silent mode
Great video. I really liked the breakdown of the computer and showing the ram and SSD slots. I haven’t upgraded my own computer for a while so it’s good to get a refresher. New sub earned.
How does this compare to the the Yoga Pro 9i? For gaming (Mainly plugged into a 34 inch 1440p monitor) and as a daily work computer for Software developer. I’m really on the fence on what to get. I’ve been looking at G14/16 2024 models as I liked their new design but they seem a bit pricey for what you get. The G14 4070-model and the Yoga Pro 9i is about 3k usd in Sweden. Do you have any recommendations for a lost soul? Edit: Great and informative videos btw
Legions are full fledged gaming laptops and have some of the best cooling systems you get on laptops. So a Legion should outperform the Yoga, as Yoga is meant to be a workstation laptop and is considerably lighter than this one. That's the thing with gaming laptops, most of the time you trade weight for cooling and therefore performance.... it's why Legion 7s are so heavy. Pick your poison: 1. Yoga I believe has an OLED display, which is excellent for multimedia and gaming but if you're gonna work on it for long hours, it will be prone to burn in. 2. Yoga will also probably have better speakers and a full metal build. 3. Legion will have the better cooling and performance. Depending on what your needs are, pick any one.
Thank you! FYI: After countless of hours researching I ended up getting an open box Zephyrus M16 2023 (4070, I9) with the miniLED display. I’m updating RAM from 16 to 64gb and adding another SSD when it arrives. It was about 1000$ cheaper than any alternatives with miniLED or OLED with the same specs in Sweden. I know its quirks and issues but I guess we’ll see how it performs :)
Thanks for the review. Quick question. How to and with what we could add additional SSD on a p16s Gen2 ? Can we use the WWAN slot for this? Also can this board take a 5G fibocom module? What to choose. PCIe or NVMe cards for the WWAN slot? Answers to these questions really help.
The p16s second slot won’t accept and ssd I have at least. Probably not whitelisted for nvme SSDs. As for the wwan slot, try putting your serial or model number into the Lenovo website. It should provide you with compatible modules
Should i buy this or the legion 5i 14700hx RTX 4070 variant? I’m afraid to buy the hx series processor because of the recent issues with intel. Which is better overall?
Thanks for the thorough breakdown I picked up this machine after watching your review! I ran cinebench and one of my cores is staying at 100 degrees C for the duration of the test. In regular use this core is usually between 10 - 20 degrees hotter than other cores. I understand it will get hot because of the stress test but I wonder if the thermal paste hasn't been done well on my unit. I used performance mode using cinebench and the fans kick up high. I watched your footage again and couldn't tell when you ran cinebench, did any of your cores stay on 100C for the period of the test? or just spike at the start ? I look forward to hearing from you, my exchange period is coming up and I am curious about your thoughts if this is normal behaviour for this model.
Rtx 4070 mobile is about 15-20% faster than the 4060 mobile. 4050, 4060 and 4070 laptop gpus are gimped by the voltage limit Nvidia put on them, which means that the 4050 is stuck around 90W, while the 4060 and 4070 top at 100-105ish Watts.
Trying to decide between this laptop and the Legion Slim 5 14.5" with OLED screen. Both sizes/weights are acceptable to me, just not sure if the OLED on the 14.5" with soldered 16gb is worth it over the larger, but non-OLED, screen with expandable RAM on the 16". Would you take the OLED over the screen on this slim 5?
Hi was wondering wether to get this with 32GB ram RTX 4070 1TB with the 500nits upgrade or Legion Pro 5 16- AMD Ryzen™ 9 7945HX-32GB-1TB-RTX 4070 just not sure especially if the legion pro 5 runs hotter with the Ryzen 9 and I do love how silent the slim is. (Only a £100 difference between the two)
I was debating the same thing yesterday on the lenovo UK website. In the end I decided to go for the slim because the legion pro 5 only supports 32 gb ram and I want to possibly upgrade to 64 down the line. In addition, the slim has better battery I believe, and looks more aesthetic. It's also 1 year newer. And the £100 difference in price isn't huge but its still a difference. The difference is even bigger if you choose the slim without Windows.
@@goodies7652 thanks for the reply and yeah think I’m going to go with the slim cause it’s got great reviews and is on the cheaper side as well and I do prefer the better battery. Cheers

Now i found this one for 1284 usd on lenovo website. I need it for 3D modeling, rendering, unreal engine, unity and gaming of course. Is it a good option in my case? I was considering Loq 15 2023 and Slim 5 2023 both with 4060 512ssd 1080p and 144hz too. But idk I need more opinions
How did you get it for 1600CAD? Right now, even with -20% sale it is at 1800CAD. Did you buy it from Lenovo directly? Any tips on buying Lenovo laptop?
Hey sorry to bother you but I'm wondering why lenovo loq has kinda close specs to legion 5 slime but the legion is way more expensive? If you're on a tight budget would you think its worth it to get the legion one amyway?
If the price is near equal get this years. If last years is much cheaper get that. The AI and tuning on the CPU is great for efficiency, but otherwise they are similar
Hi, great review! I do have one doubt, the r7 7735hs + rtx 4070 with 1 tb ssd is 66$ more than the r7 8845HS + rtx 4060 and 512 gb ssd variant. I am looking for laptop for college, hence wanted a good laptop with which I can learn 3d modelling and rendering along with good battery life and longevity. Please let me know on what choice is best! Thanks in Advance!
@@TechGuyBeau hahahaha love the way you go on about "this doesn't bother me at all" in great deal and multiple times...really made me chuckle. Great review again thanks
Okay so sorry for pestering you with questions again and again lol, but can you check one thing for me? Can you tell us if the RTX 4070 is pushing 140W or is it still voltage capped around 110 watts or so? Coz last year no RTX 4050, 4060 or 4070 laptop reached the advertised 140W TGP, even the ones advertised with it. They all maxed out around 100W or so.
The 4070 CAN push those watts, but remember wattage sharing is between cpu and GPU. So in gaming it won’t get to 140 Furthermore, there is quite literally no reason to push a 4070 to 140 watts. Once you hit 100 watts, adding more provides to benefits. I highly recommend not cross loading over 100/110 watts on the GPU as it’s putting watts in for no reason.
@@mihirojha4475exactly. A 4060/4070 should be limited to 100 to 110 watts max. Anything else doesn’t add benefit and maybe hurt performance due to heat
hye what do you think about legion 5 slim 2024 rayzen7 4070 and legion pro 5i 2023, i7 4070, which one should i buy, because both laptop have similiar price in my country❤️
How did you get to customize this? I can’t find any build your own on the website. Did it sell out? They only offer the 350 nits and I refuse to buy anything else than 400 and it better be OLED at that point.
I’m in the USA. Bro I’ve been looking at laptops for WEEKS! I don’t have a pc yet but plan to build when cyber Monday comes around. After all my research in looking for an affordable $1300 range gaming laptop that also has decent battery life for me to be able to use in college I keep coming back to Lenovo slims. I’ve been stuck between this and the legion 5 slim OLED. The oled not having upgradable ram killed it for me but after I saw it apparently has flickering in hesitating to buy it now. It’s driving me insane that this model doesn’t have really any videos on RU-vid talking about it except for you and 1 other channel I can find. This is currently on sale with the 350nit screen and 16gb ram for $1300 but the OLED 14 is going for $1250. I told I keep waiting I’m afraid the sale on this model will be gone. I’ve never had my own laptop before and I can’t understand the difference between a 500 nit and 350nit screen but honestly that’s what has been holding me back on this model lol. If you were to give your honest opinion on what I should buy with the Slim 5 OLED 14” and the Slim 5 16” gen 9 which would you pick for gaming, school work with priority’s of Heat, screen quality and especially battery life as your biggest concerns?
Love the detailed review! May I know which port if safe for me to use with a hub extension in case I need more ports? I heard about things like how hubs can cause the CPU to be damaged but not really understand how 😅
Does is still have type c charging issues? A lot of reviewers report not being able to charge it from a non-proprietary charger, and only the ones from Lenovo work.
@@TechGuyBeau like what wattage? 65 watt one wouldnt' be enough anymore? Because My 65w one from UGREEN works perflectly with my Legion 5 pro 2022 version. Aside from 65w not always being enough for high loads like gaming of course.
@@Franciehatescoffeeicecream I see. This is why I went for Legion 5 pro with 3070 ti instead. More ports, proper type c charging. One could say "but the 2023 version Pro 5 has proper type c charging" to which I'll say - it only comes equipped with HX CPUs which results in terrible battery life. 2021 and 2022 models were the best of both worlds, then Lenovo ruined it.
Hi, I’m planning on getting this same laptop and I’ll most likely update the Ram as well. Could you please share the Ram info of the one you used on the video? Thanks 🙏
RFD doesn’t allow people to promote their own stuff, because they want that sweet, sweet affiliate commission As further memory, any DDR5 will work fine. Just make sure it’s from a reputable brand
I have the 2023 version of the same with the RTX 4070 (weirdly it was the same price as the RTX 4060 when I bought it) and the 7840 processor. It has a black keyboard and a black surround that matches it in my case - might be a UK thing, not sure. I love the silent mode - it isn't silent and I do think quiet mode would be a better description, but it's good enough, and I really don't like fan noise - and it is excellent for gaming and worth the small sacrifice in FPS to use that silent mode. I'd call it mid-range rather than budget - it's a lot more expensive (almost double) than the Acer Nitro 5 I bought a couple of years ago which had an RTX 3070 inside it and an Intel chip - and I'm more than happy with it, both for gaming and for development work; I've also done a little video production with it and that went fine as well.
The area you have marked as benchmarks doesn't have important benchmarks. The noise test isn't a benchmark. And it's strange you are doing R23 but only shared its noise results and never the benchmark for which it was actually created. No Time Spy as well. You are reviewing a gaming laptop
What is the difference between this model the regular 5 and the 5 pro? I bought a legion 5, NOT SLIM and also NOT PRO (2024, gen 9) and it does not look like this laptop
Hey I'm really confuse Im gonnna buy this laptop next month but im confused btw the 2023 model and this new 2024 model Main reason is that 2023 model is slightly cheap then the 2024 so is it really worth to spend few more for the 2024 model or just go for the 2023 model
hey Beau, have you seen the new HP Envy x360? They look very close to the spectre, with a 7U processor, 32GB RAM and no Arc graphics. Also no haptic touchpad but that's not a big deal IMO. It looks very interesting, especially that CPU, I wonder if you can get it for review.
I thought it will have different chassis with all rear vents (prob. intel version will have that). 2023 editon had pretty good thermals, this one is little bit on higher side with old chassis i think new amd processor is running hotter.
@Tech Guy Beau, I am wondering about the differences between LOQ and Legion 5 slim (although same 4060), Legion has a better screen, thus get lower FPS. What about to lower resolution on Legion 5 and get maybe even higher FPS?
For about the same price ~1250 usd, I have a quote for Lenovo slim 5 gen 9 and Dell g16. If portability is not an issue for me which one would you recommend? I am mainly looking for something which can give me acceptable performance even after 4-5 years. Dell g16 7630 2x16gb, 13900hx, rtx 4070, 2.5k IPS, DCI-P3 Lenovo slim 5 gen9 2x8gb, 8845hs, rtx 4070, 2.5k IPS sRGB
is the difference between the 4070 and the 4060 model really noticiable in terms of performance? The only model i can find here is the one with the 4060.
Lenovo is doing an excellent job in regard to gaming and business laptops. It's really hard to compete. At least for business laptops, Dell Latitude 7440/Latitude 7450/HP EliteBook 845 G10 are somewhat competitive for business laptops.
@@TechGuyBeau Lenovo legion slim 5i is priced at $1,499 and Asus tuf A15 is priced at $1,423. If you don't look at the price, in terms of specifications, is it better to buy tuff or legion?

You're videos are so informative, really helping me choose a laptop, it's fantastic! I'm torn between this Legion 5 Slim Gen 9 16" with a 240Hz screen, or the Legion 5 Slim Gen 8 14" OLED. I really like the idea of gaming on those quieter modes and performance configuring you showed in this video, is the gen 8 14" just as capable with this? I'm worried the gen 8 14" is inferior, but I'm being a sucker for the OLED 😂. And maybe the 240Hz screen is sufficient. Which would you go for, gen 9 16" or gen 8 14"?
Depends on you, if you're not into gaming then oled would be better, but if you're into gaming especially on games like Valorant /CS then getting the 240 is a very good deal honestly as it also brings you 2k HDR display at the same time + better cpu efficiency and overall newer laptop
