The Note Pro 12.2 I got on release was still my daily tablet until last month when my son stepped on it and cracked the screen. Android tablets need to step up their game. Even today there isn’t much that can beat my Note Pro.. Shame.
True, still using my original Samsung Galaxy Tab S. Sure, it's a but sluggish but its QHD AMOLED display is still one of the best out there with perfect inky black and vibrant colors. Something far more useful one a tablet often used indoors with low light-level as compared to a phone used outdoors in bright sunshine.
Walmart had this on sale for $60 for Black Friday. I bought it, but recommend it even at full price for live walls or videos. It has little bloat, and upgraded in early Dec to Android 10. I've loaded over 800 apps (mostly live walls), and play both videos and these walls with no lag - although I do keep all other apps closed in the background. I don't play games on the device or use the camera. The display is good for 720p - but dark so I keep the brightness higher than on other devices, and the sound is good. The battery is exceptional - and better than Samsung or Fire tablets I also use. I do recommend this tablet - particularly for those who want a tablet for videos and/or live wallpapers.
Nice. Its cheap, i just want it to read digital comic books. But ive owned several of those cheap 60$ tablets on amazon but they are all horrible, i figured lenovo is a trusted brand and they wouldnt release trash so its worth a shot. Seems nice
Thanks for a very good review. I am purchasing one today. This video sealed the deal after this and my research. I am not a gamer. Quality is important to me and from what I have been seeing in my research this is a go.
The more I look at budget tablets, the more I'm beginning to think that I might be happier with the 8" screen since you seem to get better hardware for the price than 10" tablets of the same price point.
My m8 smart tab is great. Didn't cost much, sounds, looks and feels great. Recommended for any average user (browsing and videos) who doesn't spend time playing games
Not sure I'd ever buy an amazon product, regardless of specs or value, the software they put on top of android just gets on my wick, no point at all, well apart from them trying to get more money out of you through buying stuff from them
using my iPad air 2 from 2014 daily and it's got the latest version of iOS on it and runs flawlessly. have no reason to upgrade other than apple pencil support (still not sure if I can really utilize an stylus)
At this point I think you should try the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 8". Under $200, 4Gb Ram, SD 660 cpu... Yes, a Xiaomi device and a refresh is overdue, but... I was sceptic about the 16:10 aspect ratio , but that turned out not to be as much of a deal breaker as I anticipated.
DAC.. that is more important for the 3.5mm audio port, not the crappy built-in speakers. You're supposed to use good wired speakers or earbuds or headphones with that port
Just bought one for my four year old. I got it on Amazon for 89.99. Think it’ll be good enough for a kid? She really only uses video streaming (RU-vid, Disney + etc).
Much better the the fire tablets. I am very happy with this tablets. Snappy responsive good viewing angles good build good speakers I got it for 99 from lenovo. I have 3 lbs of ram.
I suggest that whrn you test a tablet or phone, specially if it's MTK, you mention how the screen refresh rate is, if it's 60 hz or not. Because many MTK devices have weird screen refresh rates that make them quite unusable for accurate emulation even running old systems rom 8/16 bit era....
can't help but agree with your conclusion regarding this form factor needing a better chipset.i haven't had a tablet since the original Nexus 7 and am still looking for a budget item I can throw in my bag isn't something i just want to throw away after a few mins of use. keep up the great work & i can't wait to see your review if that hypothetical item ever ships.
I was looking for a 8 inch tablet to stream media and I would have loved to get the FHD version of the M8 only if Lenovo had been considerate enough to get it Widevine L1 certified. No idea why Lenovo doesn't do that for any of its tablets. Had to go for the Honor Pad 5 as its the only 8 inch tablet available in India with a FHD screen and Widevine L1 certification.
I just purchased the Lenovo Tab M8 FHD with the 3GB RAM and full HD for $120. I also stacked it with Rakuten 8% cashback and Lenovo MyRewards ($3). I am a fan of my Lenovo Ideapad 330s and I have lots of Motorola/Lenovo phones that I have been happy with as well so I have no doubt that I will like this tablet too.
@@IShoutToTheTop It is great. I am impressed with the processor's performance, great screen quality, nice speaker that gets pretty loud, real good battery life and nice clean stock android interface. No complaints except very tough to find a case for FHD with all open cutouts correctly including the flash. I am looking for a leather folio case and it doesn't exist. Another con is the inability to stream HD from Prime/Netflix but it does stream HD in my other channel video apps. Very happy with it though.
I was just wondering what's the difference between Lenovo Tab M8 and Lenovo Tab M8 (2nd gen), is it the same? Also I heard that it can't read music files, is that true?
Be careful what you wish for when it comes to microusb. I've had so many more usb-c connectors and cables wear out than microusb. It wasn't all it was cracked up to be, at least not for smartphone use.
@@bradleyjones6461 less durability for one, I know there are articles to the contrary but I've had so many more USBC cables break than micro USB and never had a mini USB port or cable break. Seems like when you make things like this smaller they become more fragile, who knew. There are legitimate reasons for new connectors, but with smartphones at least, that's not a benefit of the new connector (the vast vast majority of phones with USB C only have USB 2.0, yes, that's exactly as fast as MiniUSB data rates, hooray). I guess charging speeds would be a bit faster maybe? But there are low quality USB C cables that aren't capable of fast charging... USB C seems to have been one of those failed trends that was forced upon the world and due to its nature it didn't really hurt but didn't really help (hence why contrary to all the tech bloggers predictions a few years ago, USB C has very much NOT taken over yet and is coexisting (when was the last time you saw a USB C flash drive or a USB C mouse). Thunderbolt came around and saved USB C, I guess, don't see a huge engineering reason why it couldn't have been slapped on to the A style connector again though.
@@awesomeferret Ahh thanks makes a lot of sense, it's a shame to see such low quality ones be on the market and don't provide what it's all made up to be!
@@daniyalk713 yeah, I actually returned this tablet and bought a Samsung tablet instead. This one is so laggy, has low sound and low screen brightness. Stay away from this tablet
Anyone have any luck with note-taking on M8 FHD with a stylus? My only complaint about the device is that it is difficult to draw diagrams/take notes with a capacitive stylus. Touchscreen precision seems to be lacking.
Hey ETA, love your reviews, keep up with the good work. I have a question: what about the FHD version of the M8, with Mediatek Helio P22T, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and above all 1920x1200 screen resolution? Could it be any good for $144? EDIT: I ended up buying it, saw some benchmarks of the P22 and it's not that bad, plus I found a coupon online: MSRP $160 > with coupon $120. I'll keep you posted, should arrive in 2 weeks.
Yikes. I'm getting a geekbench 5.2 single core score of 169 and 900 for multi core. How is it a lower score than this? Edit: Turns out Geekbench 5.x uses a different scoring system, which is totally confusing. Downloaded geekbench 4.2 apk and I got Single core 836 and multicore 3916, making this marginally slower than the HD in single core performance, but 30-40% faster in multicore.
@@Wookiestick I got mine (FHD) yesterday, quickly tested it but didn't run benchmarks yet. Highly disappointed. Laggy as hell, Google cards barely scroll, the screen doesn't seem to be fully laminated...more to come later.
@@IShoutToTheTop I kind of wish I got the new Fire HD 10 that was on sale for $99. I got the m8 FHD for $115 inc. tax and coupons, so I might stick with it despite it's shortcomings.
@@Wookiestick quick update: tested OnePlus launcher on it but had no screen rotation so I went back to good old Nova. Performance improved dramatically as expected and usability is now a 7/10 for me. Disabled everything I could of the stock Lenovo clutter and now it doesn't stutter anymore. 3gb of ram ensure many chrome tabs /apps not to reload and video and audio quality is good enough for me. Netflix though is SD only and the not fully laminated display bothers me. Overall it doesn't blow smoke but I think this FHD version it's worth it. I had an Amaxon 100$ gift card so I snagged one fire hd 10 as well on the flash sale you mention, but it's still sitting in its box.
There just aren't enough good 7-8" tablet options. I really liked a 10" Lenovo tablet I had a few years back, but it wasn't much more convenient than my laptop. Basically, I'd get tired of holding it up. I prefer smaller phones, but the screen ends up a bit small for reading and browsing online. 7-8" seems good for casual use.
I think it's pretty good. Picture quality surprising good.... My only problem is it won't recognise my SanDisk memory cards... Even after its formatted them... Anyone any ideas please???
Seriously? I have 10-15 USB chargeable devices. They ALL use micro-usb except one. Can't believe this is what concerns people today. You obviously value having the 'latest & greatest' physical connector even if it doesn't provide any greater data transfer speed OR charging speed on this device. SO unimportant on a cheap tablet like this because the back-end chipsets (i.e. USB 2.0) don't support the upgraded capabilities of Type-C. Non-technical people just don't get it.
I can't take video with mine. The playback is always glitched and zooms to the end of the video. It also takes for ever for the video to save. I've tried everything. Factory reset. Updating firmware. Using other camera and video playback apps. Everything else on the tablet works great.
Saw this at Walmart today the all-metal construction was kind of enticing to me. It's currently being sold at $99. Would that make it a better deal than something else? I really don't want to get an Amazon Fire product dealing with ads and stuff. Not going to be playing any games on it it's going to be purely for media consumption and using it for a car diagnostic app that works perfectly fine on an old tablet.
Id love to see how Pokemon Go runs on it, especially since its a small size screen. I feel like all the smaller tablets, are really sought out for by pokemon go players, cuz anything more powerful id play on an ipad anyways. But an ipad you cant bring around and also conveniently play pokemon go on, so something smaller like this is preferable for walking around and such. I think for smaller tablets ALWAYS test pokemon go on it, cuz ppl who want to game larger games wont be looking for this size tablet anyways I feel.
With Android 9, a MediaTek chipset and a long lasting battery life, together all make up a powerful combination of features for a tablet especially in this price range. The price of the tablet is absolutely justified considering the performance, look and design of the gadget. The large screen makes the working and the viewing experience all the more enjoyable and comfortable.
So, I'm assuming that this would make a pretty nice smart display for home automation and Google Assistant. My question is this. There is supposed to be a Lenovo SMART Tab M8 coming out. It includes a dock that charges the tablet in landscape, without the USB cable hanging off of the tablet itself, and forces Ambient mode specifically for Google Assistant. I'm not sure of the spec and if they will be any different, but if this tablet is charging and put on it's side, would it not also put itself into Ambient mode even without the dock? I ask, because I've been using my OnePlus 7 Pro for about 2 months now testing Google Home on an Android device and it does support Ambient mode, but its on the Oxygen OS version of Android 10.
Currently the upcharge for the FHD and over this HD models is so little ($20 - actually Lenovo is offering the FHD model for $149 right now) that I believe it is better to get the 3g/32gb FHD version which is octa-core, 3gb/32gb, 1080p, 5000 mAh battery and better camera. End of year it will be a different story, I'm sure - the HD model will be dirt cheap (I'm guessing routinely $109, $89 on blowouts around Black Friday) and the FHD version will have disappeared. I hate modern marketing. But the good new is - at least Lenovo didn't announce, but never sell, the FHD. They are actually selling it, on their website. I snagged one for $139, my boxing day present to myself. I guess we are never going to see an HD Fire 7 (Nexus 7 replacement) from Amazon. Stuck at 600p. Yuck.
I just don't understand why we can't just jump to USB C. The connector is much more robust, and the cable isn't directional, so you aren't jamming your cable all the time, and ruining your port. I , and everyone else will be happy to pay an extra $10 for what it should really have by now.
An adapter costs $1.75... I still have plenty of bluetooth headphones, speakers, PS4 controller and other devices that still use micro USB so I don't mind USB C but I also use adapters too and they work fine.
Great feel to the unit. It feels alright in the hands. Battery is great. Screen resolution is very low and processor is pretty bad. Lags a lot out of the box
