If the macbook air was a window's laptop, this would definetely be it. One correction I would like to make is that the apple macbook air 13 is now $1399 not $1499 for the 16gb RAM and 512GB RAM version.
@@RK-um9tu What do you mean? Passively cooling the chip with everything soldered down? I mean, it's not ideal, but for the use case, an entirely passively cooled monocoque design is fantastic.
I'm wondering if there will be a Snapdragon X Elite version of this laptop - would be an absolute banger - I would like to update my comment as a result of reading the actual reviews of laptops equipped with Snapdragon SOCs: at the moment I would be more interested in the Lunar lake version of this Thinkbook 13x gen 4, especially in regards of thermals. Snapdragon laptop's battery life is not that much longer to worth to deal with compatibility issues, at least for me.
Thanks Andrew! They should've remade this with the Qualcomm chip. Also, I have a request for you: in my search for a quality laptop for work and light play, I have tested many laptops and noticed a lot of them have minor but annoying issues. One thing I want to ask of you is do a thorough sleep and wake test, shutting the lid and coming back to it later, checking if the laptop wakes itself when its closed and sleeping (major issue on some), etc. Basically a user experience test.
This year Lenovo products are Elite.. so waiting eagerly for an in-depth review on Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x ... and Elite books with great battery life for the first time and OLED mania continues.. Huawei Matebook X pro is dope too.. This second half of the year is going to be delight for notebook lovers.. APPLE, dude you got serious competition now..
I have this laptop with the "Force Pad" Haptic pad. It is a generic in house made haptic pad, its not great feeling & is noisy. It is not the Sensel Brand Haptic Pad used on XPS, Z13, Macbooks, etc.... Also they designed the RAM chips to use the top bar of the chasis (above the FN keys) as a heat sink. Direct contact. Thats why That area gets super hot as shown in the video.
@@runetek2 Well you can just turn off the feedback, yes. type Touch pad settings in the windows search bar. There will be no click though either, you will just be pressing with your finger and create a click without feedback
This is a nice laptop, light and portable with a great screen and price! The camera video and audio quality seems really good for an ultra portable. Good review as well, thanks!
That thing looks amazing. Just got a m3 MacBook Air for school which I was hesitant due to macOS, but build quality, battery life, and performance won me over… if things don’t work out I’ll have my eyes on this
Hey Andrew, it looks like the price for this laptop has increased? Clicking on your link shows me $1580 for the base model with no upgrades and $2220 for the Ultra 9/32 GB RAM/1 TB SSD config. I don't think this is worth it at that pricing :(
The haptic forcepad is quite hell to work with (if you didn't worked with that before) - please, does anybody know if the haptic forcepad can be disabled and use the pad more like classical touchpad/clickpad? Witrh a software or hardware interference, doesn't matter. Thank you very much!
You can deactivate vibration of the haptic forcepad in the windows touchpad settings. I was also very disappointed. The vibration sound is weird noisy (like rattle) and its different loud whereever you push it on the touchpad area. Therefore I sent it back.
Dang, in the market for new compact laptop, just purchased an HP ENVY 17in, just as simple EDD for home use, to replace 7 year AW 17 R4, this Lenovo, makes me reconsider my idea of the Surface 9, but Hell, I can buy both.
Very impressive ultra portable laptop that certainly will not disappoint! It's got an excellent IPS display, ultra fast soldered RAM, excellent 1080p webcam, excellent internal mics, excellent quad speakers for a Windows laptop, and decent battery life. It is a dream of a computer and I highly recommend it!! Brilliant review Andrew as always!!! 👏😁
It looks like the ThinkBook 13x Gen 5 Snapdragon is the one to get... and it could potentially be the benchmark for Lenovo to finally streamline the product line up and endless variants. Server, Workstation, Home/Business, Gaming.
@@kengurukapromesse9781 performance and battery life was pretty good. At least 6 hours on moderate use. I had to return it though. The screen was too small for me
Can you please include the MacBook AND this track in All your reviews? Cuz I'm compiling a playlist of "best laptop speakers" and consistency in comparisons is kinda important.
Got this laptop as reviewed (I did have the haptic trackpad upgrade at no charge) for $870 bucks a couple weeks back with a beneplace discount. The best laptop I’ve had. Far exceeds the thinkpad z13 gen 1 I have and barely beating the MacBook Air m2 I traded in. I only wished windows was a smoother and more aesthetically pleasing OS like Mac OS.
Really nice review as always Andrew. So many good choices this year to choose from but i'm waiting to see how the snapdragon laptops perform and to see if the hype was worth it or not.
I will get the Core Ultra 9 Model with 32GB of Ram in about a month - coming from a Thinkpad Z13 gen1. What I will be missing is an Oled but everything else, especially Thermals, seem to be way better. Since I use mine only for light browsing, Netflix and Office (office mostly with an external Display), I think I should be fine with the higher temperatures. But then again, my Z13 was also running very hot and loud all the time.
Could you take a look at the ROG Flow X13 2023 edition (w/ only the iGPU)? It is sometimes on sale for $699 at Best Buy, and somewhat as a competitor machine with the ThinkBook 13x Gen 4. It gets a lower resolution display, and definitely worse speaker system, but seem to have better performance on multi core due to a much higher power and thermal budget.
It would be cool if you could compare all the time the battery life between the MacBook air as well with every laptop since that’s the gold standard of laptops right now
@@andrewmarcdavidniceeee :D please please review for playing games, while showing the CPU, GPU temps while also showing the wattage on MSI afterburning... thanks 😅
Doesn't this have a new 'stainless' magnesium alloy material for the chassis? If so, does it improve on the 'feel' of recent magnesium alloy materials? e.g. ThinkPad 13x.
If it fixes the complaints about the feel of mag-alloy compared to aluminium, then Lenovo should go all in and ditch the endless variations of plastic, carbon fibre, etc.
I brought this one, return because: 1. It feels heavy in hand. 2 design is worse than z13 and xps13, the groove at the back break the smooth feel when holding. 3. The keyboard feels way more cheap than z13. 4. I love haptic of my z13 but hate the haptic touch pad on this one. The Z13 feels much more premium.
Lenovo are getting better and better every year. They listen to customers and improve on their laptops. This thing is sexy and performs very good for a windows laptop! Too bad it's overpriced! 😢
It looks a bit tight (lack of better word) English not first language still learning, like the keys are too close to each other i can imagine that it would be difficult to type fast
Very nice pc. Camera and mics are good. Sound on this unit is very good. One thing to be aware is Microsoft is putting with their AI capability with the newer iterations of Windows 11 is this thing called "Recall" which appears to inject possible privacy issues using windows. From what I have read about it it takes snapshots of your keystrokes and what you are doing every 3 seconds. Supposedly data from this is stored locally but Microsoft has the ability to capture this data. Keep an eye out about this if there are potential privacy issues using this down the line then these Windows laptops might not be the best way to go in the future. Who knows? Anyway another great review. Thank you.
If this thing had AMD processor instead of Intel, it would be as performant while being more efficient, cool and cheap. Intel powered laptop in 2024 is just overpriced heater-fan.
