In this video I'll take a look at the Lenovo ThinkPad P50. First we'll take a look at the outside, then dive a bit deeper on the inside and have a look at how to expand or upgrade the machine. Finally I'll do some basic benchmarks and will show how the Pantone color sensor is working.
The model I have for this video has the following specifications:
- CPU: Intel Core i7 6820HQ
- Memory: 16GB of DDR4
- Storage: 512GB NVMe SSD
- Display: 15.6" 4K screen
- GPU: NVIDIA Quadro M1000M

I have this laptop. Got it a few days ago and is amazing for performance, and doesn't run too hot, unlike my last laptop which is actually newer.

best laptop. i bought one from ebay for 300usd but i wanted the 4gb model and the seller sent a 2gb model but i couldnt send it back due to the return policy so he compensated me 30usb. my has the i7 68320hq, 16gb ram which im looking forward to max out, 512 m.2. its the best laptop i have ever owned. although bulky but not bult than my previous dell precision m4800 which died due to water damage.

Are there any videos out there that can help me de-dust my overheating P50? Or at least troubleshoot? Lenovo forums suggest you have to disassemble this machine to get to the fans.

@@willapanews9761 I've seen disassembly videos, but I was wanting one specifically about cooling and the fans. I was hoping it would be simpler - the previous Thinkpad I had was much easier to maintain.

jnsd_be, is this model supports LTE? i'd like to know where is the sim card slot module placed.

Some older models do not support it but most do. The sim card slot is under/next to the battery. You can see it here 4:16 at around 2/3th of the bottom of the battery bay. The actual card is here in 5:23 where the blue and orange antenna cables come from (left from the WLAN card).

i got a 2103 hdd0 error i got three differnt cable / caddy still not working no signs of damage i also performed bios update via usb still nothing the drive is woking in my t410

Might be the cable, Might be the drive, or maybe incompatible size? Max size for the p50 was 1tb that could be the issue. or not sure would need more details. Could try formating drive then try again if not ... yeah would need specific details.

what is the type of adapter I should use for it, 135w or 170w

The best would be the 170W charger. I think 135 should work but under heavy load it might not be able to keep the battery fully charged.

Most likely the 9th or 10th gen will be better performing. Depends a bit on which exactly but this isn't top of the line either.

A 6th generation Intel Core CPU is not officially supported. It is possible to work around the hardware check though. P series are workstation L series are for casual use so p50 is way better than L 390 in performance

You will need to work around the hardware check but it should run perfectly fine. @@chalky3320 Theres a security issue with the older cpus hence why it doesn't let you do win 11 the work around is a patch but it hampers the performance of the CPU.

It will be good enough for learning, just make sure you get the M2000M gpu with 4gb.

One of fan is off, only work on start of laptop, then a msg says: one fan1 error . Do you have any idea how to fix that ? What you recommend as Linux OS for p50 machine; actual I use Debian 11, but lot of noise on fan on the left. Thank you

I thought I had a fan sound problem but it was an hdd (i use for files) that was constantly being powered on. There are powersaving commands to spin it down. I

When I see those arrow half-sized at 2:21 it make me nervous even when I think I would have to use those arrows... Also numpad...what for ? To fill empty space ? I think this is the only reason they put numpads there nowadays.
