However, I've seen a lot of guys strap up without properly grounding the strap itself - defeats the purpose. Risk is high for static electricity in dry environments, especially if you've come into contact with carpet. Some clothing is prone to building static electricity in our bodies as well. A strap isn't completely necessary, as long as you remember to touch something that is grounded. In a pinch, you can touch the case of a power supply that is plugged into an outlet to release static electricity. You may have to do this periodically if you're standing on carpet while servicing sensitive electronics.
