Thank you for this tutorial. I did it the way you showed and working perfectly. Advice for other people who are going to replace the keyboard. Make sure there are no broken rivets or parts of plastic on the frame before you insert the new keyboard. Check if all buttons are totally sunk in the frame. I made the mistake of already melting the rivets with soldering iron while the middle keys were not totally sunk in the frame. Was able to fix that, but extra work, would not be necessary if I would have paid attention.
Wow. Thanks a lot. All the "regular" videos were showing cracking off the pins which is not wise. Hot air preserved like 99% of the plastic pins. And I changed the keyboard which is working now.
I really hate these rivets that laptop company use nowadays. Its so hard to replace if you aint got the tools. I miss those laptops year 2010 below who use screws and easy to replace
Wow. That IS a pain. My delete key stopped working. Unfortunately, I ordered a keyboard first without watching the video. Since I don't own a heat gun like that, I could probably have just ordered the whole keyboard top part for not a lot more than the keyboard and a heat gun. Even WITH a heat gun that looks like a real pain. Had no idea a manufacturer could be so ... well this is not a cheap laptop and this makes repair expensive as well. Trying to think of what else one could use to soften the plastic. Wonder if they make a little infrared "heat gun". Probably trying to use a soldering iron by holding it just above the plastic would be less precise and a pain. If it would even work. Looks like a new top is about $100 and would probably be worth the pain it would save at this point :-/
From what i have heard from others the hot glue lets go after a few months there is a video of another guy melting zip ties to the rivets with a soldering iron which apparently works well.
