I used this cable to convert an old G25 pedal set to a analog handbrake!. Works like a charm. 1 - Remove the break from a pedal set with cables and the serial connector 2 - Mount a hand grip on the pedal. (And mount it on your rig) 3 - connect the break pedal to this cable. 4 - add 2 pot meters as replacement for the throttle and clutch. This prevents calibration issues due to not having a signal on those channels. Pull up or Pull down resistor probably work to. But the pot meters can add some extra functionality. 5 - Set it up in the software and you are good to go!
Thanks Barry! Pretty handy tip. I just got the Fanatec CSL Elite 1.1 and have G920 pedals. Found i can hook up the G920 wheel and use it as a hub to get the pedals to work but this is a much better option. Even so, I just bought the ClubSport V3 pedals which is even better! :) Keep up the great vids!
This is really useful, especially for someone like me who had an lc mod for the pedals and now upgraded to a different wheelbase, I don't need to switch pedals with this
If you have Thrustmaster wheel and G25/27/29 pedals lying around -use them. You can get official cable from Thrustmaster (or many stores like Ricmotech) to connect these pedals to T300/500/TX/TS. They will have 10 bit resolution and no brake curve. In my opinion Logitech pedal are better than T3PA even. Modding option are also a big plus.
I have T500RS and pedals that no longer work with it. I tested the pedal wires with a multimeter and they seem to function perfectly. Does thrustmaster have official cables for their own damned pedals?
Thin Soldier So cable from pedals to the wheel base is bad? Yoy have tested from this strange phone plug to the board inside pedals? Give a Thrustmaster a call maybe they can help.
@@Chennos From what I understand its not the problem in software but rather the firmware in the wheel base itself. However i wonder if there is any programs that could maybe add a reverse curve to the input to make it linear again. (Have not found one yet but i think it could maybe be done if we knew when the curve kicks in and its equation)
I use a Leo Bodnar shifter adapter for my old G27 shifter, making it a stand alone. Really good that there are an option to mish and mash old and new equipment!!
First of all love your reviews & breakdowns my god you go in depth in a gd way, can you look into upgrading the Logitech g29s power pack with added fan if possible as I see a lot of posts on sim forums about this popular mod but zero videos on it? Would love to know how much difference it makes
I have this mod and it's exactly as you say. I also have the GTEye progressive spring kit, the 3DRap progressive brake spring insert, as well as Clutch & Throttle preload spacers. I'd love to see you do a review with a setup like this to test on DI View, along with a hands-on test on your rig. I'm curious to your thoughts on the results as I feel they are absolutely a worthy and relative option to a load cell for a "simulated" experience with consistent results.
Barry, great channel. I am new to sim racing and I just bought the G29 set about a month ago and wanted to do the mods for the brake pedal. I looked into the pricing on both the load cell mod and this adapter to go straight to USB instead of the wheel to bypass the curve you talk about. My question is would I be better off just spending a few more dollars and getting the CSL Elite Pedals LC from Fanatec? Seems I would get more ability to make adjustments on the CSL pedals? I know you don't make a habit of replying to comments as you get so many of them but I really hope you will point me in the direction you would take. If you had $200.00 to spend on upgrading would you do the mod or buy the CSL Elites (or maybe something different even?) and do the CSL Elite pedals connect directly to a USB or do they need to have an adapter also?
I am reluctant to give advice like this, as everyone has different needs and means. But, in this case I will. I would get the CSL pedals with the LC. I believe it would be a better way to spend the 200.00. Like you already said, more adjustability and much more sturdy set of pedals in general. The CSL pedals with the LC addon, can plug directly into a PC via usb. No extra cable needed.
It's not a 9 pin DIN connector, it's a 9 pin D-sub (D-subminiature) a DIN plug is round like what they use on really old keyboards, or microphones. and a D-sub is an isIsosceles Trapezoid shape like what they use for this and also serial, VGA and DVI etc. This one specifically is a DE-9 D-sub connector. Sorry, just bugs me.
Will the pedals work with old games such as Colin McRae Rally 2.0 (2000)? One USB connection for the steering and one USB connection for the adapter. Do old games support this?
Hi! Do I need an adapter if I want to keep on using g29 wheel with pedals from Fanatec/Thrustmaster...? Or maybe is there a USB cable from the wheel that I can separate from pedals and plug into the PC? Thanks in advance
Hi Barry, just curious, what is the distance between your front monitor and your head? is that a 40 inch monitor? I am setting up a 35 inch ultrawide monitor and was wondering what the optimal distance should be? Thx
Hi. I just ordered a usb adapter for my pedals. I have two G27 and one set of pedals don't. Only the speeder. I tried on two computers with windows 10 and one windows 7. Didn't work in any, so I hope the adapter will solve my problem :)
Is this conversion cable only for Logitech driving pedals, like the G25/27/29? Or will it also work for flight sim pedals like the ones for my old G940? That's what I really need it for.
Can you use this so you can run a CSL elite wheel with these? You’d just need the Logitech software or what? I just got a nice wheel, shifter, and brake, but now need a cheap pedal set to hold me over until I can afford a nice one. If no, what cheap pedal set should I get until I can afford the inverted fanatec v3?
no, you need a board to send a HID joystick input to the computer, like an Arduino Leonardo or a Micro. It's what I'm doing, simply using a DB-9 board, but to use them as standalone flight rudder pedals. all for less than 5€.
Barry- I need your wisdom. I bought this leo bodnar cable and it finally got here today I was so happy. I've been messing with it for over a hour now and everytime I plug it in I get usb power surge. I've gone through and unchecked the shutdown button in device manager. Please help me with your knowledge. Anthony
Very informative and complete review as usual! Do you think there are benefits with this cable when braking even without the load cell mod? Thanks Barry
Do you have a Schematic for the Pedal D9 Plug? I need to replace it for a new one, The cable snapt. so i need to place a new one, but cant find a Good Schematic for it :D
Thank you so much for this video! I have one question: I don’t have the load cell and I took out the brake rubber that came with the pedal. Now my brake hits 100% at ~60-70% of the travel range. If I use this cable I will be able to use all the travel range of the brake?
5:35-8:36 : The driver software there even shows 65535 (65536) steps, that would even be a 16 Bits resolution and not 'only' 10 Bits res. .. 1024 steps for 10 Bits resolution. Can someone explain that ?
Barry, G29 pedal question. Since I'm not using the clutch, can I disconnect the wires/ground wire from the clutch and leave off while using the gas and brake?
I have never done that. Not sure if that would cause any dramas with the wheelbases electronics not seeing that input. Only one way to find out really...
Would this work with a PS5 or is it needed? I am new to sim racing and I am just figuring out what I should buy? I have the Logitech G923 (and I want to buy a load cell for the pedals). Thank you
@@marvinmeyer2366 I didn't get an answer, but this USB module only works for pc, not for consoles. I bought a TrueBrake (60% spring rate) for my pedals, and I couldn't be happier. No regrets, and I actually recommended it for anyone looking to improve their Logitech brakes. In case you decide to do something similar, just make sure you have a solid racing rig as the brake does require quite a bit of pressure. All the best.
@@mariusarhire7463 OK I just bought the true brake and was thinking am I able to change the built in curve that he mentions as I'm on ps4 but you're saying you're on ps4 and it's great without this cable bypass? Thanks
i love sim racing i love sim flying if this allows me to ditch my crappy rudder pedals and not needing to switch out my pedals everytime that would be great can i set profiles for driving and flying?
If you could find out how to do this on PS4 that would be great! I'm guessing with the DriveHub, you could get this working on PS4.The DriveHub allows you to use any pedal set and wheel base on PS4 simultaneously, for example T300RS with G29 pedals. I've always heard about the DriveHub but I'm just uncertain on whether it works properly or how reliable it is. If you could get the DriveHub, review it and test it out with the g29 while you are at it, that would be great.
sorry for the necropost and hopefully someone sees this, but would a regular rs232-female-to-male-usb cable work? can't justify $100 cable with shipping to my country for this cable
I know this is slightly unrelated to the topic, but after using the adaptor, would it be possible to use the pedals as rudder pedals in a flight sim? Im assuming the axis work in the same way. Thanks for any help
hi..hope you can help,im looking to buy a replacement cable, its the cable that is from the pedles and with the male connection attached...is there any chance you could get me that cable,i would be very greatful as without it i cant use the logitech 920...i am in united kingdom...if you could get me the complete cable i require please let me know the price and P+P...thank you so much..hope you can help....ROB.
will this cable work with the logitech shifter? i want to get the tmx pro, but I also want a shifter, I want to get the Logitech shifter and I want to know if it will work.
Can this cable be used to connect Fanatec V3 pedals to the Logitech wheel base? If not is there an adapter for the Fanatec pedals to Logitech wheel base?
Excellent review Barry, before watching your videos on these pedals I didn’t know about the non-linear curve in the firmware of the G29/G920 though I should have suspected it when checking inputs in AC and seeing how late in the travel (with GTEYE progressive springs instead of stock) the input spiked to full and while providing very little input at the beginning of the travel 😅 But a quick question in general: having seen this video I did a search for any adapters like these and found a 3DRap 12-bit adapter, and given that provides another 4-fold increase in resolution over 10-bit is the difference noticeable or more likely to be subjective?
I have not had a chance to try the 3DRap adapter. More resolution for around the same price is something to consider when deciding which to buy. I would personally go for more resolution of course.
No. This is to make your pedals able to independently plug into a PC. You still have to plug the pedals into the Logitech wheelbase to work with PS4. There may be some work around to this, but I have not seen one yet.
PC only. Still have to run the pedal connection through the wheelbase to use on XBox. There may be a hack to make it work with Xbox, but I don't know of one at this time.
