He can't be Freddie reincarnated. He was born, in 1976, before Freddie died. He was about 15 when Freddie died. Son maybe? Hey it doesn't hurt to dream lol
@@amandabilger2235 Freddie could give him his talent before he passed away thinking something like "I'm about to die, sooner or later so I have to pass my singing abilities to someone who will use it right!" Hah
I know you must be kinda tired being compared to Freddie so I'll just say: You've got the best voice since he was around. :) Please never stop singing.
Not "Freddie Mercury singing Hallelujah," it's Marc Martel singing Hallelujah. You don't have to compare everything he does to Freddie, he doesn't sound like anyone except himself in this song.
I agree in the sense that it's probably even harder in a way for Marc to make his own stamp because he does naturally just sound a hell of a lot like Freddie Mercury, even when he's not putting on an imitation. It's a double-edged sword, in a way the fact that he sang for Queen kinda hurts his ability to stand out, even though it's what put his name out there. He still needs original hit songs of his own to truly set himself apart as his own unique artist, but he is an absolutely beautiful singer, no doubt, Marc is the real deal.
There are people that sing, and then there are people that can freakin sing. And let me explain the difference; you know the person is exceptionally talented when their voice grabs your undivided attention. So much so that you don't even notice the time passing, or anything going on around you. That, my friends, is Marcs voice. How incredibly captivating.
+Pascals Seite If "playing with queen" is replacing Freddie it already happened multiple times. (Lambert, Rodgers, Michael) There is no "replacing" Freddie. There is only making music similar to the original Queen and I am ALL FOR THAT. I agree with Lisa Marie, he needs to play with Queen and ESPECIALLY help them in the creation of a whole new album.
***** No, Google is YOUR friend. They chose Lambert because of the 20 million AmIdol zealots following everything he does. Tickets! Martel simply doesn't have that kind of PR promoting him.
Todd & Raquel Liz Forrest I agree, Todd! They have played with every star du jour in every country of the world. Why not give this guys a chance? May refuses to play with him. He will get upstaged by Marc, that is what May is afraid of!
***** No he doesn't sound like Freddie, which he wouldn't be able to do even if tried. His range is too short for Freddie, and his chops are too brief for Freddie. But he surely tries to wear a crown like he deserves it and copies Freddie's cadences and phrasing like a champ! Of course I don't know what I'm talking about because only you do! G'day, champ!
It seems Marc Martel is too good at everything, vocally. No wonder the suits fear him. WOW! He'd probably put every singer today to shame with that versatile voice.
and all that AUTOTUNED GARBAGE! Welcome to the Martel fanclub. Now go buy or download Impersonator, and listen to his original music! (Live at the High Watt is still available for just $5 too.)
am pretty sure he's on everyone's radar and they are figuring out the best way to market him. He's a unicorn. Also he's not your typical rocker, he's an ex-seminarian and all that.
Holy shit!!!!!! In all the years I've been a massive Jeff Buckley fan, never have I found anyone who even got close to his godlike singing let alone cover his cover so perfectly. This is absolute gold.
I never post anything, but I am just so amazed at Marc. I’m really speechless, watching everything I can find on him. Thank you for sharing your gift, the world is a little better, now.
I cried, I wont lie. Everyone has done a cover of this song since Cohen died, I have heard several beautiful ones from both before and after his death. One of my all time favorites is K.D. Lang's version from the opening ceremonies of the 2010 winter Olympics. Her version was backed with the pomp and circumstance of the games and the excitement of the live crowd and it had a certain magic. But this version is a solo in a studio with just a man, a mic, and a guitar and it simply blows me away. Thank you Mr. Martel and bless you for sharing your voice.
Checkout Marc's solo album, Impersonator, especially the song, "High Hopes (The Remake)." Marc is influenced by Buckley, Mercury, Vedder, Michael and Jordan Knight. And listen to his cover of "I Will Always Love You" it is what Buckley would have sounded like.
Sometimes a singer with so much range cannot seem to use restraint and they end up doing all these runs that do not do the song justice. But Marc, who has so much talent and range, makes all the right choices to showcase the song, emote the lyrics, and present his beautiful gift all in one perfect performance. That's artistry.
+ALMIRANTE ALMIRANTE Agreed. Marc is simply a gift to the ears. He makes beautiful music and takes the music of others and makes it better. He delights in the music, not the popularity and fame. His reward is every time God says "well done good and faithful servant." But the lesser singer does a great job singing bubble gum glam pop with an Elvis snarl. I'm not putting that other guy down, he obviously has a huge following, and if that is what he was after, he succeeded in his own eyes.
Supreeta Sagere Exactly. I don’t get that. It’s like one can’t be appreciated on their own merits. I love Barbra Streisand...but I don’t need to put down Beyoncé or Mariah or Judy Garland to appreciate Streisand. I love George Michael, but that has nothing to do with the vocal talents of anybody else. I love Marc Martel because he’s a phenomenal singer. I also think Lambert is gifted. No need to compare.
Just sitting here trying to imagine walking through the front door from a grocery run and hearing this freaking Angelic sound coming from my own house.....Ahhhh Crystal is an insanely lucky woman!!!
I just found you through your 'I want to break free' cover. I then went to 'Nothing else matters". Then immediately thought "I need to hear this man sing Jeff Buckley's hallelujah"....... I cannot express ENOUGH, how much I appreciate your passion, dedication, creative devotion, your voice, and your entire existence. Thank you for being you, and sharing it with a world that so desperately needs you.
He is a good writer too! Here he writes of why he choose this song for his 90s cover series: "Why "Hallelujah"? Ok, so I'm cheating a little this week. This is a cover of a cover. But this particular cover was so different from the original that it was a kind of rebirth for the song. You could make a case that it was Jeff Buckley who made this song a classic, and not its original composer. And that's a beautiful thing about the art of music. Once it's released, it can take on infinite forms - stripped down, rocked out, turned on its head, sung in a different language or time signature, or even *cringe* remixed for the club! Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" has been covered so many times, it's almost embarrassing to add another one to the pile. But it was made new in 1994, and this is a '90s covers series. So that's my excuse! Although Cohen recorded it in 1984, I didn't hear "Hallelujah" until quite some time later. And despite the sheer smorgasbord of versions, it was Cohen's original recording that I somehow managed to hear first. It was in the end credits of some movie, if I'm not mistaken, and the lyric grabbed me. I was hooked even before the first chorus. Verse one recalls the biblical account of David, in his innocent exuberance, playing music for the Lord. Then with the second line, Cohen brilliantly deconstructs the mystery of music by referencing the Nashville Number System, a shorthand used by musicians for charting out songs. To my wife's dismay, who is an avid music listener, I completely relate to how familiarity with music's mechanics can sort of harden your heart toward it. It's like anything. When you know something like the back of your own hand, you have to keep working at finding the beauty in it, or face the devastating effects of disillusionment. I'm no poetry buff, but this sentiment seems to be the crux of the song, as it pertains to romantic love. It was a different David - my brother - who introduced me to Jeff Buckley's music. Since then, Buckley, who died tragically in 1997, has become one of my biggest musical influences. His album, "Grace," unlocked a whole new world of vocal exploration for me. It showed me just how little I really knew about singing, and how far I could hope to take it. The creativity, purity and elasticity Buckley demonstrated were something I'd never really fathomed. The way he wasn't afraid to sound downright feminine in an industry dominated at the time by gruff, baritone singers. His ability to project power and delicacy all in the same breath. If you appreciate serious vocal chops, I highly recommend "Grace." It's one of my all-time favorites. It's guitar rock, with an extra dose of sophistication. My favorite song on the album is actually an original called "Last Goodbye." But for the sake of familiarity (the good kind), here's my cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," in the style of Jeff Buckley, who improved on a masterpiece, IMHO. P.S. Here's a fun article I found ranking SIXTY different versions of "Hallelujah": www.newsweek.com/60-versions-leonard-cohens-hallelujah-ranked-303580 m.facebook.com/283556381655697/photos/a.417293538281980/1049461711731823/?type=3 "
Lidiane Silva would love to see him do grace!! This is amazing however his runs are very similar to Jeff’s here. As well as his uncanny vocal resemblance to Freddy he’s a very talented and superb singer.
I won’t compare Marc’s voice with Freddy’s, cos that’s simply OBVIOUS! About this amazing Hallelullah, being Jeff Buckley one of my most loved singers, I only can say hallelullah!!! What a voice and talent you have guy!! (Tears...)
Was just listening to “Everybody Hurts” and thought “he sounds like Jeff Buckley covering REM” and then I saw this. THIS is my favorite song. I have a cry test for who does it best. KD Lang and Jeff hold the current lead...or perhaps that is held...weeping Hallelujah. Voice of an angel. Such talent.
Marc, your voice is like molten gold, velvet, and everything lush and beautiful. I wish you'd have more recognition. A talent like you don't come every decade or century.
Guys, he just released this on an EP. He mixed it in such a way that the sounds of the guitar seem to be floating on water. It's magic! That's my own takeaway so far, anyway. 😍
I heard there was a secret chord That David played and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do you? Well it goes like this the fourth, the fifth The minor fall and the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Well your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you She tied you to her kitchen chair She broke your throne and she cut your hair And from your lips, she drew the Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Baby, I've been here before I've seen this room and I've walked this floor You know, I used to live alone before I knew you And I've seen your flag on the marble arch And Love is not a victory march It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Well, there was a time when you let me know What's really going on below But now you never show that to me, do you? But remember, when I moved in you And the holy dove was moving too And every breath, we drew was Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Maybe there's a God above But, all I've ever learned from love Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you? And it's not a cry, that you hear at night It's not somebody, who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah
For me, Buckley's version is still the best. Don't get me wrong: i love Leonard Cohan. This man was a poet, a genius. But Buck... he turned this song into something completely new. Something truly heartbreaking and gut wrenching. Glad you picked his version. Rest in Peace, Jeff
I know Marc you sound like the king Freddie but I hear the originality in your covers... you have a voice like caramel... smooth and full with such beautiful tone and control... I honestly feel bummed that you have such a small amount of subs compared to people like the Logan brothers... You are truly the BEST voice I have heard in 20 years... your sound going vex me goosebumps and tears every time ... you even wow my 7 year old future musician ... thank you for your gift ❤️🙏🏻
Hi Marc. My name is Maximiliano. We discover you from your cover of bohemian rhapsody (i'm fan of queen) and we went your recital in argentina! (great show) i use this song to opening in my wedding , we chose this song whit my wife! Thanks a lot for this version , your voice is very especial and u transmit a lot of fellings when i ear Greetins from argentina Marc!
Wow! This is now my favourite version. I thought nobody could ever top Jeffs version. This gave me chills. So much subtleties. Masterful story telling musicianship! Please never do musical theatre! Ever! Haha.
I think it is so nice to be Marc Martel and have this God given talent! Everything he sings seems so easy for him... I tried to sing this song along but the police kicked in my front door cause they thaught someone was screaming.
Freddie Mercury is this guys blessing and curse! I’m afraid people will never be able to see him for who he is but at the same time he gets so much love for being someone he’s not. My respects this man made me listen a song that I thought I already heard 100 too many covers of and I truly enjoyed it. What a beautiful man with an incredible voice that’s really out of this world.
@@QueenCelebrationLive Marc's own work is pretty respectable too. Such a shame that Queen chose to continue with Adam Lambert and not Marc. I get it, they didn't want to be a Queen tribute act, but when God offers you a miracle, it's kind of rude to turn it down.
Marc truly is an ARTIST! I can definitely see all the hard work he did and does in order to achieve this level of professionalism. He is not Freddie. He is just a really hard working person and it makes me sad he doesn’t get enough credit for his job. Personally it is usually hard to impress me with some covers but this.. oh God.. brings a lot of emotions. Thank you Marc!
Won't lie, I got here through a youtube wormhole that started with Marc's (one-take) cover of Bohemian Rhapsody. I am in love with Marc's voice. He has the most incredible vocal and breath control I've heard in a very, very long time. This song is one of my favorite songs of all time, striking me in some emotional space I don't readily share. He seriously just booted Buckley's version out of my playlist. Your voice is a gift!
Marc the last thing I want to do while watching more of your personal stuff is to compare your singing to you-know-who. What I hear is pure Martel, and it's the most beautiful thing Ive heard in a while. Thank you Marc, you make my day so much lovelier. Thank you for the amazing music
Marc your voice moves my Spirit to the most beautiful places and tears of joy and sheer bliss come to my eyes as I behold this precious gift you have. I'm sure God weeps with joy as He listens too. It is a blessing to see such a God gifted talent as yours being honorable to God in such a tough industry. Thank you for being the light in the City on a Hill for Jesus. May you shine forever bright in His name. Want you to know how much you are loved for who you are and want to encourage you to keep singing your sweet beautiful moving music to shine light and love in this sometimes very dark world. God bless you and keep you and your family.
That was incredible! Every word out of your mouth slid out like soft silk. I could feel the meaning of each lyric in the way that you sang it. Marc never give up singing, you have such a special talent.
@@MultiKamil97 Whether he took his life or not can be debated, since you can't know if he actually were mentally ill taking his life or if it was an accident. You are both correct and wrong. And if you say otherwise you are a small-minded person.
@@CeRz I just stated a fact. I didn't confirm whether he killed himself or not. We can't know the reason why he drowned but the fact, that he drowned is incontestable.
@@MultiKamil97 You are speaking against yourself by even saying that. You only stated one fact of your 2 statements. The one correct statement is that he drowned and the other statement has no proof to it since you can't be certain whether he killed himself or not.
There will always be more than one person who will compare him to Freddie Mercury in every song of his. Let him breath! Commenting that in his Queen covers is okay but every song? NO. Just appreciate how beautifully he sings.
I thought i saw 10.1 million subscribers, i was like okay. But when i saw better i'ts 1.1mil i was like wow. Truly dissapointing that this kind of talent is not more recognised.
LM , yes ! One Dong of a singer of muy country ( Argentina ) Tini , hace 200M of views , and this , not one millón . The Worlds don't take have brain !!!
I have been a BIG Marc fan since he did that initial Queen audition video, and while I think he nailed that, he's produced dozens of super performances, as here. He def is more than just a perfect Freddie mimic. Can we get this talented man a decent manager or something? He's a true virtuoso on so many fronts, please get him a band that can break new ground.
I think Marc makes a good living these days, all his shows are sold out around the globe... I'd be honored if some Queen & Marc Martel fans would take a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of PURPLE RAIN by Prince and PRAYING FOR TIME by George Michael on my YT channel in tribute to 2 of the greatest vocalist-songwriters in music history who followed the trail that Freddie Mercury blazed. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and RESPECT to the legends.
B-Thrash Oh, he is SOOOOO MISMANAGED I can’t even begin to extrapolate on that one. However, I hope I HOPE that he will realize that friendship is not the management he needs!!!!!! This guy is an f-ing wonder!!!
Jeff Buckley’s version of Hallelujah is one of the ONLY one that gives me goosebumps! There is a girl that sings this in a subway hall & she too gives me goosebumps! And now you!’ 🥰🥰
Mark, I first saw your Somebody To Love video and was in awe. Your vocals are incredible and no matter how crappy a day I'm having hearing your music makes it better. Never stop, you are an amazing artist!
I knew I'd dig deep enough to find you covering Buckley. You're more Buckley than Freddie, and that's f'ing excellent. Now do a cover of Lover You Should Have Come Over.
Buckley and George Michael were two of his greatest influences, then he was introduced to Freddie after his music career had already started. It just so happens JB+GM=FM.
