I see it as a song about a belief in redemption, derived from afar and/or from within...that no matter to what degree we have failed or are failing, there is faith in our own rebirth, a belief we will once again rise to our feet.

My friend anything apart from Jesus is Dead, Jesus is life, we live by Grace through faith in Jesus. Jesus Christ perfect sinless life is imputed unto us, we are clothe with the righteousness of Jesus. Jesus is the Lamb of God for mankind. Don't let man philosophy or self righteousness fool you it's all stained by the world, pride, lust, and the devil. Spiritual blindness. This is a Kind message not intended to be condescending. Read the Bible in Faith, believe, and humble your heart, and God will reveal himself to you. Romans 9:15 God said I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.

@@julianmarsh1378 it’s by the will of God that I saw how dead I was, and I saw it with my own biological eyes, not spiritual eyes. Because I would have been Dead, and in Hell. There’s an emptiness in everyone that they want to fill, the world can’t do that only Jesus Christ can. This life is nothing but filthy rag compare to the Eternal Life which is the presence of the Glory of God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. My Friend the devil want to keep you blind so he could steal your inheritance in Jesus Christ. Read The Bible. I’m not being condescending

@@julianmarsh1378 You can’t feel it because you’re Dead in Sins, and blind for the things of God. Dead things don’t feel, it takes the power of The Holy Spirit to show you, and heal you. My hope and joy is in Jesus Christ, the blessings in eternal Life. In the meantime we walk by faith not by site (The World), we are not of the world. I’m a sinner thus I live by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Ephesians 6:12. If you only knew the philosophy that enters the believers mind and exalt itself against the words of God that we have to fight. I can’t overcome it myself Only with prayers and the Words of God. "Hallelujah" was first released in 1984 as part of Cohen's album "Various Pleasures." Cohen wrote over 80 verses to the song before eventually trimming the lyrics down to the four verses heard in the final version. The song contains numerous allusions to Biblical figures, such as King David, and juxtaposes religious sentiment with dry, ironic humor. The song has been described as being about the frustration of songwriting itself and Cohen's personal frustration with the commercial failure of his previous records, despite critical acclaim. The song remained relatively obscure until a cover version by Jeff Buckley, released posthumously, became a smash success. Since then, "Hallelujah" has frequently been used in movies and TV shows, such as "Shrek" and "The West Wing," and it is often played at private gatherings, such as weddings and funerals. Other artists who have covered the song include John Cale, Amanda Palmer, Willie Nelson and Bono. "Hallelujah" has become one of the most covered songs in the world, though different artists often perform the song with less cynicism than Cohen. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-suXXd9j529M.html

I ask my Christian visitors, "Do you remember your Gospel narrative, that when Christ was supposed to have been on the cross, he cried out with a loud voice: "ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI? which is, being interpreted, My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?" (Mark 15:34). The above is a translation from the Greek manuscripts "ACCORDING TO ST. MARK." Obviously his Hebrew has a Greek accent. Because, his so-called originals were written in Greek. But listen to Matthew, who is supposed to have written his Gospel originally in Hebrew, which was aimed at the Jews. St. Jerome, an early Christian father of the 4th and 5th centuries after Christ, testifies as follows: "MATTHEW, WHO IS ALSO LEVI, AND WHO FROM A PUBLICAN CAME TO BE AN APOSTLE, FIRST OF ALL THE EVANGELISTS, COMPOSED A GOSPEL OF CHRIST IN JUDEA IN THE HEBREW LANGUAGE AND CHARACTERS, FOR THE BENEFIT OF THOSE OF THE CIRCUMCISION WHO HAD BELIEVED." Naturally, Matthew's accent would be more Semitic (Hebrew and Arabic) than that of Mark. Matthew records the same scene as Mark 15:34, but note the variation of the dialect: Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI? that is to say, My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me'? (Matthew 27:46). Please memorize the words - "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani." (Eli - pronounced like L and I in English) Utter the words - ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI; ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI, to your Christian friends and neighbors and ask them whether these words - "Eli, Eli," sounds like "Jehovah, Jehovah!" to them? No! is the answer if they are not deaf. Ask further, whether "Eli, Eli," sounds like "Abba, Abba!" (meaning father, father! in Hebrew) to them! Again the reply will be "No!" if they are not deaf. Can't they see that the cry is to Allah? "Eli, Eli - Elah, Elah, Allah, Allah!" Let them hear these words from your lips and watch their reactions. No honest person can help agreeing with you. ALLELUYA! Now ask your Christian friend, if he had heard the word - "ALLELUYA." No Christian worth the name will fail to recognize it. Whenever the Christian goes into ecstasy, he exclaims - "Alleluya! Alleluya!", just as we Muslims might exclaim the Takbir - "Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!" Ask him, what is Alleluya? Take him to the Book of Revelation, the last book of the New Testament, Chapter 19; we are informed there that John the disciple of Jesus, saw a vision, in which, why hast thou forsaken me'? (Matthew 27:46). Please memorize the words - "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani." (Eli - pronounced like L and I in English) Utter the words - ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI; ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI, to your Christian friends and neighbors and ask them whether these words - "Eli, Eli," sounds like "Jehovah, Jehovah!" to them? Can't they see that the cry is to Allah? "Eli, Eli - Elah, Elah, Allah, Allah!" Let them hear these words from your lips and watch their reactions. No honest person can help agreeing with you. ALLELUYA! Let us repeat the above Tasbih (words of praise) as an Arab or a Jew: ALLE-LU-YA will be YA-ALLE-LU because, as explained above, YA is always at the beginning in both Arabic and Hebrew. YA ALLE LU would be YA ALLA HU: Meaning, "OH ALLAH!" (You are the Only Being Who deserves worship and Praise) "OH ALLAH!" (You are the Only Being Who deserves worship and Praise). Unbiased Christians will not fail to recognize Allah as none other than his - El, Eli, Alle, Elah, Alah, Allah. Call upon Him by any name, for His are the Most Beautiful names, as long as those names are not contaminated and as long as they do not conjure up in our minds the images of men or monkeys howsoever glorified they might have been

This song has a different meaning for EVERYONE, its a song about what each individual persons "hallelujah " is TO THEM... it could be a spiritual, a personal, a career, ,.... etc... any number of things, and I THINK ( i might be very wrong) that he DID write over 80 verses to this song, and would sing different verses, mix them around , because he wanted it to be a versatile song that DOES fit everyone's OWN HALLELUJAH... 😊 that meaning MAKES SENSE TO Me anyway! I hope everyone has a great day, and is staying safe!

Which only goes to prove that God uses cracked pots. Is it true Mr. Cohen wrote approx 70 verses to this song? Because I vastly prefer the Biblical verses over what became the most common version (the verses are dark and depressing between the lovely uplifting Hallelujah choruses).
@jrstf
@jrstf 6 лет назад
I think of verses such as "I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances", "Rejoice in the Lord always", and "in all things God works for the good of those who love him", all which would suggest the appropriateness of Hallelujah. But then I ask, how did it benefit John the Baptist to lose his head? The melancholy Hallelujah chorus sounds entirely appropriate to me.
