Which only goes to prove that God uses cracked pots. Is it true Mr. Cohen wrote approx 70 verses to this song? Because I vastly prefer the Biblical verses over what became the most common version (the verses are dark and depressing between the lovely uplifting Hallelujah choruses).
I think of verses such as "I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances", "Rejoice in the Lord always", and "in all things God works for the good of those who love him", all which would suggest the appropriateness of Hallelujah. But then I ask, how did it benefit John the Baptist to lose his head? The melancholy Hallelujah chorus sounds entirely appropriate to me.
