I do not listen to western music that very much, but for this genius, even if I would attempt to say anything, would be an insult. Can't dare to speak of his talent. Sir Cohen was a legend and he always will be. Just a few months back I got to listen to "you want it darker" and it took me by surprise. I cursed myself for not getting to listen to him for so many years, and when I heard of his sad dismise, the whole world was in sorrow but I believed, he has become immortal with his lively and dynamic music. May his voice and music inspire his admirers for centuries to come. Rest in peace Sir Cohen.

I've been recently rejected by the woman I love. I tried everything, sacrificed everything, I wrote her songs, poems, spent my entire year trying to express my love and appreciation - and, eventually got rejected in the rawest of ways. Hearing this song, I see myself 100%. It's an absolutely perfect depiction of the psychology of the rejected. The loved one portrayed as Jesus - this powerful and magnificent being; the loss; the confusion; the tiredness and anger; the neurotic attempts to decompose everything and understand everything (so perfectly symbolized by the snake); and the final understanding that she is probably not even real, just a ghost. I was feeling totally ruined before hearing this song, believing I was some kind of monster, a loser, a person unworthy of love. Mr. Cohen helped me to see that I'm not alone and that, maybe, there will be some light by the end of the tunnel. Thanks, Leonard.

Followed LC since I was 20. Now 65. His music has followed my life, reflecting the life obstacles all people often face, from love (susn takes you down), to loss ( so long marriane), to family insight ( my father has gone a hunting), to ending of relationship ( took my diamond to the pawn shop), to spiritual issues ( Joan of ark), to sexuality (thousand kisses deep, hallelujah. ), to death (leaving the table). Despite his many awards, I think not enough people recognize his true value to this age. Democracy is coming to the USA. Seems he has been the world's spokesman, with not enough people listening.

How have I never heard of this guy. I am almost Leonard Cohen's age and I have been a Neil Young fan for 50 years. I'm glad I finally discovered him through the showtime series your honor. I will be listening to more of what he has to say.

First Testament. The snake talked Eve into giving Adam the Apple of Knowledge; And paradise was lost... Men (humans) had to them suffer. (I'm an agnostic... but love these stories). :)

Emma Emerson im an athiest and i also enjoy these lyrics greatly, the style reminds me of townes van zandt, who is just as poetic, especially with songs such as rex's blues and snake song.
