Clive Anderson Talks Back, 06/10/1995 - Barry Humphries in both his guises chitter-chattering in the usual fashion. Not my copyright, just sharing found ephemera.
A comedy legend and one of the funniest people that ever lived. Like Eric Morecambe, he could have the audience rolling in the aisles with a mere facial expression. RIP Barry Hunphries.
Best entertainer ever, and any host of any show that tries to get laughs while she's on are wasting their time Barry Humphrey is way to quick for most people and gets away with anything, he doesn't have to use bad language either
@@BlytheWorld1972 Well if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does (And I got that from Groucho Marx)
Clive Anderson just didn't understand how it worked. You could set Barry Humphries off and just let him go. He'd fill the air time. Anderson's ego got the better of him.
Comparing these interviews with the ones Michael Parkinson did with both characters shows how inept an interviewer Clive Anderson is. Instead of allowing Humphries' characters to shine like Parkinson, Anderson constantly interrupts, breaks the the flow and dampens the humour. What an irritating little man he is.
"You were fucken terrible, Clive" 🤣🤣🤣 Saying to his face what so many have thought ahh hahahahahaha EDIT: Hope the Bee Gees got to see it too before we lost two of them.
ppotter It’s only relatively recently that I found out Mykola wasn’t a woman, which I’d always assumed. I remember that name from practically everything I liked in the 80’s, too.
What annoys me - Clive tried to break the 4th wall and ‘out’ Barry Humphries mid-performance. Who the HELL did he think he was? A very cheap and desperate shot from Clive, clearly frustrated Dame Edna was stealing his thunder and leading. Clive’s dry humour didn’t gelled with me - though he could be reverent to some guests, usually he was snide and a bit too sarcastic for my taste. Bare in mind that Dame Edna had hosted her own shows and interviewed huge A-list celebrities at this point in her career, probably bigger than Clive could attract for his own show... The arrogance of the man, to try and ‘out’ Edna as Barry during mid-performance wasn’t playing fair. Such a petty move, it would of achieved nothing had he succeeded, it wouldn’t have got to the audience on side, it wouldn’t have even tempered Barry and allowed him to host with more control, it was just a mean-spirited move and I LOVE how Barry Humphries just refused to even dignify it and carried on.
I have no idea who this awful host is, he's terrible. Thankfully the amazing thing about Dame Edna is that it really doesn't matter who is doing the interviewing, she totally takes over and in this instance makes this guy look like an absolute moron. God bless the incredible Barry Humphries. Hilarious.
It's Clive Anderson. He's famous for pissing the Bee Gees off so much that they walked off set, after 5mins of a live interview. I think he implied they were has beens.
He's a comedy writer and performer. The idea of the format was that rather than giving the guests an easy time as chat shows had previously, he would come back at them with wise cracks. It was good (he's a former barrister), but it got old because it could be a bit OTT, and of course the bee gees walked off, which more or less finished it off.
“You’re not doing that trick, are you?” Anderson means ‘The White-eared Elephant’, in which... but look it up. ‘Black Magic’: a box of chocolates formerly made by the Australian company Cadbury’s, and what you bought your sheila when you took her to the flicks if you were hoping for a leg-opener.
dismith I think she is referencing the lips on her face and her other lips, her vagina. Too much for the audience as nobody laughed, so she said “think about it” because they were slow off the mark.
Anderson thought he was cutting edge but he was just unpleasant and nasty he had no sense of comedy or timing and his persona was obnoxious, he was also a complete nervous wreck and so hard to watch He was so talentless even a genius like Barry Humphries could not prevent Anderson from wrecking the interview Truly dire
