To all fellow fans, we lost a very talented singer Lesley Gore today Monday, February 16,2015. She was a part of the wonderful 60's music culture. What a great time it was being a teenager. Thanks for posting these music videos. I deeply appreciate what all of you have done for her. For now, I will have my mourning-party to honor her and her music by playing the various music videos of Lesley Gore. Thanks, Lesley!

Lesley Gore can be considered "The Voice of the '60s" except there was so many great women singers then,Dionne Warwick,Connie Francis,Aretha Franklin,Brenda Lee,Petula Clark,and one who doesn't get enough recognition,Joanie Sommers,we heard her at least as much as the others,she sang both major Pepsi jingles. And that's not even considering the groups and their great leads. What a wonderful decade to be young.

There were even more greats that can be added to your list, but it would be too lengthy here. The one thing about Leslie Gore, is that according to Quincy Jones, she was the only singer who could nail an exact take twice, and wth super power each time.

Lesley was a teen, the other ones were much older, she sang like an older girl, was a Beauty, and all the girls want to be just like her. That is why she is the authentic American sweetheart, that’s the difference between the rest.

In the year 1965, there was: the assassination of Malcolm X, the Vietnam war, the year white supremacists beat a minister to death, bloody Sunday, the funeral for Viola Liuzzo was held thanks to white supremacists, the necessity of the Watts riots, yeah what a nice world.

The song was based on a motif similar to "Downtown" and came off hot out of the box on the market and then never got as high as everyone expected. Great record but Mercury seemed unable to get the horses going at the time.
@jackanthony976
@jackanthony976 4 года назад
One of the reasons why the song only reached #32 on the national charts is because the record was blacklisted in the San Francisco market because the song's lyrics refer to "Frisco" instead of San Francisco. It was said that people in San Francisco hate being referred to as "Frisco." Losing a major market like San Francisco can cause a huge dip in the charts.

Unlike "Shindig!" on ABC, CBS's "Hullabaloo" retained a lot more of the feeling of a traditional musical TV show instead of being more legit rock & roll. Not that it really mattered because neither program lasted very long. It's ironic to watch Lesley having to play the game and sing about "my guy", being forced to cover up that she was/is a lesbian. That was forbidden in those days!

In the duet with Dick Kallman the song is Everybody Loves A Clown, NOT The The Tears of A Crown. This is obviously typical Japanese error as it is obvious from the incorrect spellings and the incorrect title; not to mention the fact that hoshino6--like most Japanese probably wouldn't dare have a native English speaker help him to make sure his English is correct, nor his facts are correct!
