This song is an old standard in Southern Gospel music, I grew up hearing it in church, hearing my grandmother singing it, and on Sunday morning TV. In the beginning of this video Leslie says, "Where is Vestal when you need her?" He was referring to Vestal Goodman who was part of the Happy Goodman Family, absolute legends in the SG music world. I love Leslie and Morgane together. 😊✌️
Thank you so much for watching this. I adored Leslie as an actor but have never heard him sing. I now have even more of an appreciation of his light in this world.
Leslie Jordan was a comedian and an actor. His social media during the pandemic was the BEST. He did an album in 2021 called 'Company's Coming' where he sang gospel songs like this one with quite a few well known singers.
Leslie decided to do an album of old gospel standards and asked others to join him and to his and our delight many took him up on the offer. He was a Tennessee native singing church hymns were a part of his youth and he asked another Tennessee native to also join him, named Dolly Parton. The two of them together were like the male and female versions of happiness in one spot.
This song is so so old. I am almost 61 and I can remember singing this in church from the old hymnal book as a little child. This song first came out in 1911. Beautiful song. Thanks for sharing this video!
Leslie Jordan was a Salt of the earth, good hearted, sweet ,southern gentleman. Raised Southern Baptist but he was gay. He loved the Lord, and had always wanted to do an album of hymns he grew up singing. (He was an actor. ) He got it done very shortly before his death.
Leslie Jordan was a true blessing! He was such a bright light during the lock downs and every other time he blessed us with his love! He has an album out with gospel duets with many up and coming country artists. It is so worth it to listen or watch all the videos. Also I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your channel Sebs. You are also a blessing to all that watch your channel. You have a beautiful family and a beautiful heart! Keep it up!
So uplifting and all that talent! I didn't know Leslie had passed! He was such a character on and off screen! I'm sure he is having a good time in heaven telling jokes to God!!! I can hear saying hey God bet you haven't heard this one!!! Thanks for sharing! Love from Texas!!!
Chris's wife is his backup singer 99% of the time, on stage with him, because he gets stage fright & has a great voice herself. Leslie was the silliest comedian in the world & the sweetest gentlest man & was beloved by everyone who was lucky enough to catch one of his performances. He radiated childhood joy & was southern to his toes. I never heard him sing until he started doing those silly things during the Pandemic. He found an entire new generation of followers, by doing ridiculous things on TikTok & Instagram. You might be able to find clips of performances by him on RU-vid. He was personal friends with Chris & Morgane.
ABSOLUTELY old timey country/blue grass sound so rarely appreciated today. Thanks for a visit back to the roots. Glad your feeling better, GREAT reactions, much fun watching your respectful and honest comments. As one of the “older folk”, on a fixed , tight, income, I’m sorry I can’t add the small burden of a contribution, ( donated phone and RU-vid connection, and meds, sometimes a choice over or under food,) I really enjoy watching you, and your positive spirit. Stay with us.
When everything got locked down during the pandemic, Leslie started posting on Instagram just to connect with & lighten people's days. He posted twice a day for 80 days. He always started with, "Well, how ya'll doin'? This is just awful!" Then he'd complain hilariously about the pandemic, tell jokes, do an "exercise" routine with a backscratcher, sing, cut his own hair, twirl a baton, whatever. He was wildly popular just being his funny, adorable self when people needed that.
Leslie Jordan made the world better solely by existing. When the pandemic happened he started doing Instagram videos to his fellow "hunker downers" that brightened the days of so many. During this time he started going back to the hymns of his childhood in Tennessee and decided to make an album and reached out to some great artists (like Chrus and Morgane) that gleefully made duets with him. Leslie is missed by so many. Oh, Morgane has the voice of an angel. She sings harmonies like no other.
This old hymn was one of my parents' favorites and reminds me of my childhood in church. Leslie is the guy who sat behind me just singing his heart out and Morgane is the best singer in church, coming in strong over the top. I can't really compare Chris to anyone since there's no other voice tha sounds like him. Lol. But it reminds me of church and family on Sunday afternoon, sitting together and listening to Grandma and the great aunts harmonize, singing country and bluegrass. Feels like home. And I miss Leslie terribly! But I'm so glad he got to make his old-time gospel album with people he admired. ❤️🌻
Thank you for reacting to this I've never heard this I loved Leslie he just made the world such a warm welcoming loving place. And he has a good voice he can sing course he is at Southern little
Just came across this late at night and am so glad I did. Thought I had seen all of Chris and Morgane. I'm 83 and its so great to hear this beautiful rendition just before bedtime. Great reaction! Hope you've recovered. Thank you for posting this, it really got me. have to hear it a couple more times now.
During covid he would sing hymns on sundays, and we all just loved hearing him sing, a lot of people told him to record an album of him singing the hymns and bless him he did.
I loved everything about him, there's nothing he can't do,he will be desperately missed, R.I.P. My Dear Friend ♥️, Thank you Sir for your reaction, happy to hear your feelling better, hope you and your family have a blessed evening 🙏 sending love from Lafayette Georgia 🙏 🍑
This is an old hymn. I belong to a huge church but they sang this a lot in my grandma's little country church. I can still hear my mama singing it. She sang it at funerals for a couple of friends although she was LDS. If you can find it, Dolly has a beautiful song called I Am Ready. I think it was on the album "The Grass is Blue." My daughter sang that one and I Stand All Amazed at my mamas funeral.
Leslie Jordan was an amazing actor. You have to see him in Sordid Lives. He was from Texas and the movie is about East Texas siblings when their mother dies. It is hilarious.
Leslie started posting videos during shutdown and his tag line was "Well, SHIIIT, what'ch y'all doin?". He was hilarious! Then he started posting "Sunday Mornin’ Hymn Singin’" of his covers of old time church hymns that included his friends. I adored his humor and good heart.
Father Along is a southern gospel song. A song that Morgane sings lead on and Chris sings harmony is You Are My Sunshine. In my opinion, Morgane doesn't get enough credit for what she brings to the stage.
At a previous job our VP reminded us of Leslie Jordan. One late night I was scrolling TikTok and up popped a Leslie video. It started with "hey, what are yall doing?" So I stopped the video and immediately sent it to 2 of my "subordinates" who happened to be married. I then went back to finish the video and the next line after "hey, what are yall doing?" Was "screwing"? I almost died trying to retract that video, lol.
Leslie Jordan was a very special man. Please, please do have a listen to:- Amanda (with Lyrics) - Chris Stapleton and Chris Stapleton More of You. I am sure that you will like them both.
Leslie Jordan was hilarious on Will and Grace. Morgane is a regular part of Chris' band, and you'll hear her on most of his tracks. I'm seeing him in July and I hope so much she's there too!
@@jerrypass7135 she was the one who pushed him to move into the front of the to shine instead to writing for everyone else. Played small venues to try out songs.. Thats out of his own mouth. So not wrong.
This is a gospel hymn written in 1911 by a Church of God pastor named W. B. Stephens. This is one of my favorite hymns. You should also check out Brad Paisleys version also.
You should react to more of Leslie Jordan's album, Company's Comin'. Filled with guest singers like Tanya Tucker, Eddie Vedder, Dolly Parton, Brandi Carlile, and the album is gospel song covers. Just lovely!
Sebs, If you want a good taste of Chris and Morgane together, go to their Tiny Desk Concert. So beautiful to see them together in a small and intimate venue. Their connection is palpable.
The growth pill overdose in the movie Ski Patrol is one of favorite comedy scenes from a movie. Leslie was great in everything, yet this is my first time hearing him sing.
Leslie was so sweet in every way. He was a gay man raised with s military dad. And when he talked about it you couldn't stop laughing. He helped millions of people during the pandemic. Watch some reruns of Will and Grace, him on the internet or anywhere else you can find him
Great song!good reaction! An artist that doesn’t get the deserved recognition is Drake White he’s got that country/blues raspy voice.his biggest hits are making me look good again and the coast is clear..but does great cover songs.
This is on Leslie's album Company's Comin'. It's awesome and all collaborations! Check out You Are My Sunshine by Chris and Morgane Stapleton. She truly shines! Love your reaction ♥️
He wanted to make a gospel record with his friends. Dolly sings a cut with him!! Mor gain is how they say her name! Hope you feel better! Just came upon your channel and am enjoying you!!!
