Sounds so good even on my iPhone. I have a Hammond L102 would love to get a real Leslie for it but I would need to get a kit for the organ for connection to the Leslie. Where can I buy a kit?

If you message him when the time comes that you have your Leslie and let him know exactly what model you have then he will be able to sell you the correct one. I also use a Dr Fishsticks connector kit for my setup. Thank you so much!

Also this is Mark's channel ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s1Md1Wd9OAE.html Mark's a great guy and very passionate about his craft. Without Mark, all of us Hammond and Leslie fans would be out of luck these days as the name brand Leslie preamps are nearly impossible to find. Mark has pioneered his own brand of connector kits that work flawlessly and are rock solid and dependable. 👍

I have seen some ‘ Leslie ‘ rotating speaker apparatus on RU-vid and they all had ‘ rotating baffle ‘ over a stationary speaker and didn’t think they got quite the same effect. Many years ago someone brought one to our house and we explored its construction. It had a speaker on end connected to a turntable with some form of brush contact assembly underneath. It made the ‘ real ‘ effect of rotation plus phasing reversing all in one. Then I finally saw one of that same construction and knew I wasn’t hallucinating back in the 70s. They really do exist.

The true Leslie according to the Doppler effect you hear frequency, amplitude and phase modulation !In other words pitch, volume and waveform modulation all at the same time! I used to do the maths behind it in my younger days! 79 years old now, Fraser

I've got an old 145 and a 16, and I just love playing them, but when I record these days i use amplitube. I can get as good or better RECORDED sound with it and make the spread as wide or as narrow as i want and it's great. Not the same as that visceral in the room sound with the real thing...so just depends on what you want.
@soundacresstudio

Amplitube is great and yes, agreed. Its getting to the point where the only difference will be the user's awareness of the mechanical Leslie being in the room. Exciting time it is for effects!

Another consideration/ option for a Solid-state Leslie is the 760; I've had mine since 1976 and it still performs well, and has wheels which makes portability less of a problem. Love your chops!🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹

I have an RT20 and a real Leslie that I made from a large hammond x77 Leslie. My variant is comprised of 3 parts. The horn cabinet , with a JBL driver, a Fender Mustang 5 and an ART Electronic crossover. The speaker is a front loaded JBL K130 in a separate cabinet, which nests into the separate rotor cabinet on the bottom. The motors are controlled electronically. In the same room, the actual Leslie absolutely eclipses the RT20 through an amp or even in a stereo mode. The ability to adjust the gain and crossover frequency opens up a LOT of tone variation that does not exist in the actual Leslie . This is setup specifically for guitar.

What you say about the living presence ... it's exactly like the vibe of playing through a real tube amp. The closest I ever got to that feeling from a digital device was a Roland Cube 30 I once had. That thing pushed air! But still, it didn't quite feel like sitting in front of roaring bonfire ...

I got rid of my Hammond organ (L122), because I found a sample library (L-102) that sounds EXACTLY like it! :O I've been looking for such a library/plugin since 2012, for I wanted to get rid of this heavy and space consuming beast! I did find a free L-122 plugin in the past and even though it could be useful in certain situations, it didn't sound f all like my L-122 and then you'd say: "oh, but you've got the IK Multimedia Hammond plugin as well then?", yes... but it sounds nothing like a Hammond Spinet series, like mine was but anyway.... the IK Leslie is so good, but at the same time, I miss the noise, the clicking, the air that's moving when I use my Dopplertone 150 (I know, not a real Leslie, but it sounds damn similar), but still... it depends... sometimes I'm using the IK Leslie, especially when the organ's not the main instument. In a full mix, I don't hear the difference, depending on how much stuff's going on of course, but I'm not getting rid of it, unless a company creates a plugin that REALLY sounds exactly like a rotary speaker mic'ed up. :) Great video!

Can’t beat a real Leslie. I ran an 815 for years. I now have a neo vent 2 and a Lester K. The Neo vent is very close sounding to a Leslie. I prefer a real Leslie. The sound is three dimensional and the sound is thrown out around the room. My 815 was very powerful. It’s only down side was it was very heavy. Simulators are two dimensional sound and in very large clubs we perform at times the simulator is very close sounding to a miked Leslie. Particularly the Neo vent 2. On another subject it is like comparing a real tape echo to digital echoes. I own a few vintage tape echoes and their analogue sound cannot be beaten. On stage I use a Danelectro reel echo which isn’t tape but analogue. It is the closest sounding none tape echo to a real tape echo that I have heard. I own a few digital echoes including Roland Boss but they mainly stay in storage. Brilliant video by the way.

I’ve used a Sharma 2000 Leslie and then over the years at different times two valve (tube) 145’s and a 147. I now use a solid state silent switch for a quiet switching as some Leslie are noisy. On solid state vs valve…..listen to Three Dog Night’s organ sound to hear a difference. ( They use solid state Leslie 900 ).

I would love to have a real leslie for my Hammond SKX Pro, but for now I don't really need one because the leslie sim on that is super nice. You can go in and tweak a lot. You can change the mic positions and distances, and choose between a few different Leslie cabs. I was blown away with how in depth their newest built in simulator was. If I do end up getting a leslie, I'm probably going to just get a 2101 Mk.2 since I'm already running out if space in my home studio. The compactness of that unit is nice for lugging to gigs I imagine. I haven't heard much about how good they sound though.

In my experience, Ive owned the Hammond SK1 and a Viscount Legend Soul. Even with both Leslie Simulators, you play them through an actual Leslie and you'll see what you were missing. I ended up buying a Leslie 122 because it sounds that much better

The true sound of a Leslie can only be heard by mic'ing the space that the Leslie is speaking into. The effect is partly doppler effect and partly a product of the Leslie interacting with the physical space - much like the true sound of a pipe organ.

Josh, what would you say is the best Leslie speaker application for guitar? Would you simply drive these speakers with any amp? I've only had experience with the guitar combo amp they came out with around ten years ago, but have since discontinued.
@soundacresstudio
@soundacresstudio 6 месяцев назад
Hey man, thank you for the question. In my opinion, Leslie speakers like the model 825 which are monoral (1 speaker and one baffle) offer the loudest and most intense effect for guitar because it doesn’t rely on a crossover which has to divide the incoming signal between the horn and bass baffle in a typical Leslie. That is the downside to my 910 because the crossover sends the low frequency signals only to the bottom rotor while it sends only the high frequencies to the horn. This gives the sound separation but also a significant drop in volume unfortunately. For instance if I was to run the guitar through the 910 it will divide the signal between the two rotors but for guitar I’d rather have it go through a single bass rotor with the signal intact and undivided. That’s my preference for guitar. I have an old internal Leslie I salvaged from a Wurlitzer that I want to rig up for guitar but it’s a hassle to get the wiring correct. Thanks man, hope you are well brother.
