There’s a word we used to use for music like this: HEAVY. I saw Frampton when he was with Humble Pie, they were the opening act for Grand Funk Railroad. My first concert.
It just takes one song and this is it, i remember when i first heard this song and thought to myself, this is what real hard rock sounds like!! r.i.p. Leslie!!
West had booming vocals and this was one of the very best rock songs of the 70s. If you watch Frampton closely his body language and movements are just like they were in the 70s. Gotta love two "old" rockers jamming together. There is no age limit on having fun!
Yes, we are getting old. We just have to sit down and play nowdays. It's better than ever now, but nobody really shows up for the small one hour shows anymore..or even know who we are. It's ok though. We were the seeds of the rock tree. And our doctors told us to quit drinking so much. Oh well. Maybe one less bottle of Jack Daniels.
Holy s**t this version kicks ass. This song is the answer to whatever b.s. is passed off as music these days. It’s my duty to make sure my kids hear the greatness from the past, and they love it!
You are correct sir. I saw Mountain on their 1972 Nantucket Sleighride tour at Dennison University in Granville Ohio...52 years of a outstanding memory!!!
U have that rite i seen these guys at a Rib burn off it was 4th of july im not exactualy sure of the yr 1994-1998 in Akron Ohio my ear rang 4 a wk an Cheap Trick the nite after did not help wow what a line up peace ❤😊 from Kent Ohio
R.I.P. Leslie West. Love their give & take convo about their manager’s~agent’s haha! Then they thrill us with this absolutely face melting performance! Musical Giants right here, oh to have been in that audience!
I saw Leslie with Jack Bruce and corky Lang I'm very thankful that I got to see that I was about 10 ft from them a good show Johnny Winter was also there good music I miss all of it be peaceful
FANTASTIC!!! 70 yo, seen a LOTTA shows/bands/guitarists... couple hundred, easy... NOBODY played hard rock like Leslie West! NOBODY!! Saw Mountain twice, West Bruce, & Laing, and Leslie solo twice, once full electric, and once full acoustic, believe it or not! I'll say it again... NOBODY!!!
And personally, I think he exceeded the youthful exuberance that glowed so brightly in the original release. As Frampton said, at the end, West is the best!
Oh my God!!!! So glad I found this. Mountain live at Legion Field in Birmingham, AL 1971 was my first rock concert. I was 18, fresh outta high school and living away from home for the first time. Got stoned, drunk, and became a forever fan of Leslie West. RIP old buddy.
Growing up in the seventies you didn't have much access to heavy stuff as we called it back then (metal , thrash, hard rock , limeoed blues ) it was all word of mouth, and the talk always got around to Leslie West , a mountain of sound , rip big man ...
I took my moms new lincoln, 2 hrs drive, to take my new strawberry blond girlfriend I met at the beach, to see Mountain at Duke 1970. I was 16, she was 15. She hated it immediatly and wanted to leave, as I didnt know she was into country , but made her stay anyway. I got her home about 1 am , her dad was in the yard with his shotgun, but she told him I was OK.. Our first, and last date. Mountain killed
Just fantastic, both at almost the end of their careers, playing Mountain's greatest song on two Les Pauls. Age is just a number...until your body calls it quits.
@@mnpd3I don't think the guitar makes that much difference. The guitarist's brain and fingers are the important thing. Anybody can buy a Gibson anytime. You can easily go buy one today
@@drmidnight680-kz2le But there certainly are some differences between a Strat and a Les Paul. There's an interview with Ed King somewhere on youtube where he talks about his Stat sound contrasting with yet complimenting the "dirty" sound of the Les Pauls played by the others in Skynyrd. Someone once told me anyone can be a rock and roll star if they just take ten minutes to learn how to play the "E" rock and roll scale really loud on a Les Paul. You can take that one for what's it worth!
Like the comment below, 1970 would not exist without this song. Leslie had lost a leg by this time, but looks like he got that tooth fixed! And his voice was better than ever here.
@GrayWolf3334 not sure how old you are or how familiar you are with MOUNTAIN, but if you haven't heard it yet check out "Nantucket Sleigh Ride"! That's another one that's KILLER? Long version is 17+ minute's with Felix Pappalardi on bass.👍😎💪🙏
@@edvinlaine "Mississippi Queen" is a song by the American rock band Mountain. Considered a rock classic. It was their most successful single, reaching number 21 in the Billboard Hot 100 in 1970. The song is included on the group's debut album and several live recordings have been issued.
Immortal song! But, for me, the absolute masterpiece of West & Mountain has been THEME FROM AN IMAGINARY WEST...because MQ is hard and big rock but Theme from...is beautyful...a jewel!
Every time I played this song out I thought of what Leslie might play. And I would play that. A beautiful person who I got to meet and he even played my Explorer for sound check
The best rock guitar opening riff IMO. What could a Jewish kid from NY and Jersey and a kid from Kent, England possibly have in common? They are connected spiritually through their music, and especially the electric guitar.
My favorite is Clapton , but these two are awesome, I played since 1966, these two influenced me so much. Rocking greats. Thanks for sharing. Subscribed.
