@@Wenkhalz93 It’s so painful, honestly corruption is holding us back as black people both SA and Lesotho as neighbours. While leaders are corrupt tensions arise between people.
@@gardencity3558 But at-least some countries are functional. Unlike countries where systems are wrecked. Like SA everything takes long to repair, municipalities are on the brink of collapse, water outages, sewage in the streets.
Not only corruption.. The cANCer let's everyone from Africa in with little to no thinking that all the millions that are coming from Africa brings more crime, they need to eat and drink. Most of the time they just take property or land without any repercussions. It's a HUGE problem. No wonder the electricity grid and water system are buckling. Just a recipe for disaster. But vote Anc is what the majority does......
South Africa currently has water every single dam in the country is completely full, what we don't have however is the infrastructure to get the water to where it needs to be as the government hasn't maintained it in 30 years.
You mean expand. Less than 20 % of the population had access to clean water 30 years back, same as electricity. Now its 98%, yes we need more dams and bulk water systems which the government is building. I am always surprised by those who praise the white rule era
@@Madman73ff More Rubbish. The fact that townships supported the populations that they did puts falsehood to your claim. The electrification of Soweto began in 1970s.
@@darkgalaxy5548 yeah but you'd have 10+ people living in 2 bedroom houses. Since the 1990s, the number of formal houses has almost tripled, while the overall population has not even doubled
Same applies to UK water supplies due to failure to maintain Victorian infrastructure. Profits and dividends trump development and maintenance every time. That's Western-style corruption.
It is much worse than that. 60% of losses can't be accounted for, and only 50% of water that is accounted for is eventually billed to customers... so roughly only 20% then....
That’s the problem! 80% of citizens do not pay for service delivery. Also this water project was entirely funded by South African taxes including reparations, why must we now pay for what we built? Lesotho wants to utilise our infrastructure, and then extort South Africans for it… this is the Zimbabwean hive mind problem and why all Ngunis should leave Southern Africa, it makes zero sense allowing Lesotho and SADC members to have any say in public works as they have destroyed all infrastructure already. There is a zero return on investment when you invest into communist Nguni illegal terrorist states
Like and he said it so passionately like he should be applauded for it. No sir the sooner the better. These people have lost touch with the ground yazi. It hurts 💔.
Well, farmers alongside the Orange River in South Africa above the Gariep Dam claim they are not getting the water they should from Lesotho. For years now.
Besides this dam, Lesotho has a lot more water. The snow melts resulting in more water than they can use but the problem is infrastructure for distribution.
Damn, politicians would rather benefit foreign nationals first instead of their own citizens. Getting over $200m yearly but not improving or developing water structures for their people, mxm.
It’s 2% of their annual GDP that they get from royalties, South Africa built and maintained dam and most importantly country still has lots of water but just not building infrastructure to supply it. It’s that simple
Same like in Zimbabwe 😢... Zimbabwe government is selling water from Beitbridge to Limpopo province in South Africa 🇿🇦😢...while Zimbabweans citizens don't have running tap water in Beitbridge area...all because of corrupt and greedy politicians 😢😢...Africa we're cursed
i greww up in Limpopo South Africa, I remember my parents fetching water from the river when I was young and buying water from trucks until they managed to do a borehole well. this is sad and it is still happening among all African Countries. These Governments corruption are cruel, water is to be a basic need for everyone
Even if it were true it's meant to be a mutually beneficial resource & the people in that area barely get enough & in Joburg. They need to build/fix infrastructure so enough water can flow & develop other streams because it seems like the water is also getting stretched thin.
@@fullmetaltheorist Do you really want them or its the water???? They should fix the corruption first, unification will be an African thing no one will annex them, they will join the African movement that sees Africans and not borders.
Yes Lesothovery nice and clean place, been there but boy oh boy how easily their king and politicians falls in the money trap whilest ignoring their own humble citizens.Every one use to closed their businesses here in SA opens up over there exploiting their labour market paying that people peanuts and their government dont care a damn.Yes i once was recruted there by my company and was shocked as to my huge salary in comparison to my Lesotho counterpart by doing the same job.And to see this multi million rand dam project where their very own is at the losing end, says it all about that king and his government.
@@My_handsome_King yes I dont dispute that my friend, here in SA the most unthinkable is happening all the time.,however just so sad that Lesotho a small country don't let their own citizens enjoys the that multi million rand dam project to their advantage first.
The Zullus cut down many of them because of cattle theft and started hunting them down, they ran into the mountains and declared independence in what is today known as Lesotho.
@@Guess2know not at all zulu expansion ended in 1828 with the death of shaka, the Sotho's withdrew to the mountains due to boer and british invasions, etc this happened much later in the mid to late 1800s under king moshoeshoe much later after the death of shaka, what i know is that sotho leaders were always strategic to avoid war and retain Independence, they paid homage to the zulu kingdom in cows to avoid being invaded and i Intergrated into the zulu kingdom, they later agreed to be a british protectorate to avoid being invaded and intergrated into the boer republic orange free state.
@sphethobuthelezi719 I like it when someone knows history, but I would like to correct one point, Lesotho was colonized by Britain and gained full independence from the British on the 4th of October 1966, Basutoland (now Lesotho) was sparsely populated by San bushmen (Qhuaique) until the end of the 16th century. Between the 16th and 19th centuries, refugees from surrounding areas gradually formed the Basotho ethnic group, as for the Boers they were settlers same as the bantu tribes.
200 million dollars is small, 1 billion would be fair, so they can have money for social development like water, sanitation, roads, schools and health care centers
Their government is just something backwards. I think you guys need to tell the world about the Lesotho government. Because most of them come to SA illegally end up being illegal miners, domestic workers and are often exposed to human trafficking in efforts to pursue economic opportunities.
@@MohauManase I didn’t know that and no one calls them out. I always also myself what is happening in Lesotho? Because one can tell there is a problem, but we don’t know, no one talks about it. For example if your government is living in SA how will they fix the country? And it’s a small country, it should be easier to manage, but corruption.
@@MohauManase Because of the Zama-Zamas terrorising communities. It’s scary I guess and I get when you say they treated like monsters, the fear is very real. If it wasn’t for that I think we would really live well maybe. But I feel like we have to learn more about what’s really happening in Lesotho.

@@MohauManase I'm Sotho, born and bred in SA. Grandfather came from Lesotho with his brothers. We are NOT treated like dogs. Outliers of society are not the norm.
Mr. Journalist did you not realise it's because Lesotho's government is getting the money from South Africa and it's not reinvested back into the country. Why is Lesotho's government not held accountable for not investing into essential infrastructure development? Also, did you ask the chief if he and people the village pay rates and taxes... I don't think so. So does the village think everything will fall out of the sky for free :/
HIV* they get the latest medication through South Africa bro you should be concerned for most African countries who don't even have clinics within a 15km radius with medication.
So with all the NGO's that they have there no one has the motivation to set up a solar powered water pump, large water storage tanks and then decentralised water off-take taps to the villagers....this is basic 101 water in the modern water reticulation systems.
Noh it's not water they are taking _ we have Big Big Dams in South Africa and this issue is about the Minerals of Lesotho , For years now they've been smuggling Diamonds from these waters of Lesotho , The landscape is rich and it will be foolish for Lesotho to let South Africa capture it's land.
running pipelines to villagers, is a task far easier than building a dam, shame on those in positions who have allowed this situation. on day 1, water should have been provided to local residents. in how many days, can this situation be solved?
which tribe does the land the dam is built on belong too? what percentage of the profit from the dam, are they receiving? these tribes need legal representation, [ for compensation, and back pay ].
@TheBooban You can live next to the Dam, but connecting potable water takes a lot more than running a tap. Need to set up water purification plant, build a water tower, build pipeline, and pump house from purification plant to water tower. And the village is spread around haphazardly. Not grid format Town with large distances between with terrible topography. Nightmare. Pick up to 200 houses and resettle them in Maseru with new houses, water, electricity, healthcare, and schooling. Will be cheaper
They should try UK water, you pay through the nose for it and it has forever chemicals, sewerage and last week cyanide! It would be funny if it wasn’t true!
From SA i am ashamed. This is not right. My people in lesotho if you need our help we can close down both countries until your water demands are met 1st. SADC we are together we can do this.

2:50 this project was funded South Africans entirely, it was granted on the basis that water comes into South Africa as we the tax payers were told to pay land claims for the residents who live on that land... It's rather odd that your journalist posed that question the way that he did, as for the answer he received it and how your journalist glossed over the fact that the water was for South Africans who funded it, and the project is more than a decade over completion time us concerned that Lesotho not South Africans get the water!!!! It's mind boggling and rather pathetic that BBC cannot even bother to stick to facts. I certainly didn't hear him state anything other than lies. That's not Lesothos water, they never paid for it and neither will South Africans pay for something to Lesotho that we already payed for! Why did your journalists not address this corruption? Instead he perpetuated it and so did BBC by glossing over the facts

Again we have an issue. Basotho are treated like monsters 👾,dogs etc... We are landlocked by SA so our passports are destroyed by the South Africans at the Brothers. Everywhere we go we have to go through South Africa. We need your help. Please help us.
