I'm so glad you're going the more zero waste route. I've been following you for YEARSSSS. When it was all about the hauls!!! Can use all these tips. Soooo excited.
Pandemic made me think about my choices a lot too! I’m so happy more and more people are making those small changes - small changes have big impact! ❤️🌿
HEY EVERYONE!! PLEASE read the description for more details.. I added some safety facts and info on some of these DIY options. Safety Notes: These household cleaners DO NOT disinfect. I keep Clorox bleach in my cabinet for when I feel an area of my home needs to be disinfected. These DIY vinegar cleansers are good for touch ups. Also DO NOT ever mix vinegar and clorox bleach. I use bleach by itself, and these cleansers for touch ups only. Essential Oils - please use food grade and do not swallow the toothpaste, or out of an abundance of caution use peppermint extract instead. Baking Soda- Use it consciously. It can help remove surface stains, however scrubbing your teeth vigorously with baking soda can cause damage to the tooth and erode enamel over time. It is advisable to brush your teeth with baking soda no more than a few times a week, and when you do, try not to let it sit on your teeth for more than a minute. I personally use mine occasionally in addition to store bought toothpaste. Also, I apologize that I didn't pronounce www.TheEarthingco.com correctly, as I so badly wanted to support them.. =( Please check their site out and support!
I really enjoy your videos and just wanted to say that I take full responsibility if I decide to try any of your ideas. Im an adult and I think before I speak and research before doing. Im sorry we live in a world where you have to add disclaimers to cya. Peace and love. 🥰
I honestly stopped watching your videos for a while...not on purpose, but I wasn’t getting alerts lol. I forgot how much I loved watching you cleaning, going about your day, etc. Your videos are so soothing and help me relax.
It’s been years since I’ve been watching you and it’s so great to see how far you have come. I absolutely adore you and your family. Sending lots of love and wishes from India. Stay blessed. ♥️😇
Thank you for being so conscious of the fact that people are struggling to pay for those "non essential" luxuries we all used to enjoy, before the hard economic times. This does not go unnoticed. What a wonderful reminder we can still practice self care through these tough times.
I have watched you for years I'm a college student. I been sick from a long time but watching you make me more motivated and you inspire me a lot . I love animals as much you I do feel a connection with you. Thank you so much for being thank Love and blessings for Indian Shuchita
So much of what you’re doing reminds me of things that my mom experimented with when I was growing up. Makes me feel happily nostalgic! 😊 I’m doing many of these things now, as well. 🌿
I love all of these tips!! I’ve been making my own cleaner for a while and I LOVE the smell. Lemon and clove essential oils is my favorite combo! If you wanted to try another easy swap, you should cut up a old tee shirt into squares and put them into a jar. You could use them as tissues and put the used ones in the same bag as your cotton rounds. I did this a bit ago and was skeptical, but they’re SO soft and nice to use!
Even though our lives are totally different, I so enjoy watching your videos. They're inspirational and a good testament to slowing down and enjoying the smaller things.
This was so helpful. Just yesterday on the spanish network Univision showed the Island made of plastic. It really got me thinking and now I am looking for ways to become less wasteful. Thank you
You've always been a wonderful inspiration for me since almost 6 years ! Thank you Rachel . Its like I've been growing with you. Until 3 years back , it was a whole different phase of using makeup and products for me and your contents were perfectly resonating. But now, I started living quite consciously and focus on growing my garden and less waste approach and your videos are my biggest inspiration. Love. ❤️
I love watching your videos!! You mentioned giving away your designer items. I would love to see a video where you talk about what led to you doing that and the change in lifestyle and perspective!
Thank you for sharing! It’s great when anyone tries to be more mindful of their impact on the environment...we are not perfect but we need to show and teach our kids to always keep trying to do better. Can you please include how to store and the expiration for each DIY? This will help with the efficacy of each product (proper storage ie dark glass bottle, cool dry dark cabinet, etc) and to know when to toss it out and make more. Thanks 🙂... Can you please do an update video on your businesses? Like will you be reviving Pacific Thyme or anything similar, your music, RU-vid vids, etc. Thanks!
Sure. I can do that. I usually make these as I use them, so as soon as I'm out of something I make another batch. Toothpaste I would make in small weekly or bi weekly batches, the sprays are infused vinegar, so should last up to a year. Soap I use until it's complete. I keep the other skincare ingredients separate so I can make small batches =) Also, I will share more about business. A lot stopped with the pandemic, but PacificThyme will be coming back this year, and I don't think I will ever stop making music so I know that will be back too! xo
Be careful with vinegar on marble floors or anything that can strip off coatings, marble has a special coating on it because its toxic. Your home is gorgeous💜
Thank you Rachael for another great video. We all need to rethink how we are living and do more natural things like this instead of buying products that aren't as good for our homes or for ourselves.
About a month ago I bought a Mason jar soap foamer for my kitchen as well as those bamboo/cotton reusable rounds. I've used castille soap in foamers for quite a few years now and really like it. The Mason jar foamer looks great in my kitchen and yours looks great in your bath.
Been watching you since 2016 , when I moved to the USA yours was the first channel I started watching and loved! Have seen you grow and you inspire me in so many ways be it cleaning, going more environment friendly and more. This was so calming to watch, I love you voice too!🧡
Mrs. Talbott, I have been watching your channel since you were living in the apartment, pregnant with Oliver. Your videos are so soothing, realistic, and inspiring. I have the same exact mop, you can take the mop head off and throw it in the washer with bleach and vinegar and it looks brand new.
Please be careful and never mix bleach and vinegar. Here are two source: www.thoughtco.com/chemicals-you-should-never-mix-606817; www.healthline.com/health/bleach-and-vinegar#mixing-bleach-and-vinegar-in-laundry
I love the idea of making household cleaner, I'm going to give it a go. I did get advice from a plumber once to not use vinegar in my shower, though, because it dissolves the grout 😬
These are very interesting, but please consider adding at least bergamot and clove (they are antiseptic and disinfectant) to your sprays: vinegar itself doesn't kill all the bacteria on the surfaces and expecially during these times it's very risky not to have houses as perfectly clean as possible (scientists and virologists say if you don't use alcohol, chlorine or ammonia, covid won't even go away from the surfaces! I'm allergic to each of them and try to use them as little as possible but at least some is necessary). There are also many natural cleaners that are 100 safe and rechargable that you can buy online or in the stores, so you are sure to really disinfect everything. Also, steam works much better for cleaning the floors, expecially if you put some drops of bergamot essential oil on the mop. I know it's important to take care of the environment and sure as hell you are already doing a great job, but you should be extra careful about cleaners...yeah I know in the past centuries there were lots of natural cleaners, but also many people died from infections, bacteria and viruses. Just be careful and stay safe :)
Yes. I understand what you're saying. I do keep clorox bleach in my cleaning kit, but don't feel the need to clean with it every time I clean the house. I like using these for touch ups etc.
@@racheltalbott Thank you for your answer! Well, you are right, every time will be too much, I like to use an ammonia or chlorine based product once a week, just to be safe during these crazy times. The rest of the time I use a steam mop and drop some bergamot essential oil on its rug.
I am trying to use natural cleaner too having a child now more, using often the vinegar mixture but I do have bleach in the corner and using it when I think it very needed too🙂
Thank you Rachel. Although being in a different continent I may not find the same natural substitution of high end products as you, I do find this switch inspiring. I am also on the lookout for effective & less expensive products & I would always find your product choice as something I couldould only wish for. Here in India, although we boast of the origin of cosmetics, medicines & whatnot derived from nature, good natural products come with a huge cost & the big brands are pushed at us. Thank you, looking forward to naturally derived alternatives for more areas of our lives
I tried a shampoo and conditioner bar but it didn't work well with my hair. Now I'm using shea moisture products for all hair types because they are ethically sourced, vegan, and don't contain harsh chemicals. I believe their bottle is partially recycled as well. When I finish it I will recycle the bottle but I know recycling isn't always the best option. I'm also using a bamboo tooth brush, metal razor, and eco friendly menstrual products. My next thing to try is toothpaste tablets.
Hi Rachel, are you near any of the many fires here in California? I hope your family and property will be safe! We have smoke where I am (east of Sacramento), but it isn’t too bad. It’s much worse where I lived a few months ago in central Ca.
I powdered chickpea flour, oatmeal, lavender, green tea, neem leaves and hibiscus leaves- and mixed all and put in an airtight container. It's such a nice gentle none-toxic and sustainable face cleanser!
Hey Rachel! Have you tried using Lush's toothy tabs before? They're baking soda-based toothpaste tablets that you crush between your teeth to use. I really like them and highly recommend! They come in a bottle, but Lush has a recycling program so there's less waste. Just thought I'd pass along!
Apart from the things others have mentioned in the comments, I also like how you are not wasteful with tap water. You use only as much water as is needed. Some people just switch on the pipe letting the water out with full force, just to wet their toothbrush.
I tried switching to a bamboo toothbrush, but it got green pretty quick, any tips to prevent? Also thanks for the toothpaste concoction as I am running low and just went to the market and forgot 😫 I have all the ingredients 😊 as for the facewash, I use oatmeal and honey, but just tried CeraVe as my face needs a deeper clean, but a tiny version, my homemade wasn't helping much. Please make more videos like this, I love this 💜
Aloha, I've been following your videos for a while now and I have to say that before Covid-19 and especially right now watching your videos relaxes me after a hard day at work. I can select one of your videos and all I want to do is start cleaning. And with Fall coming up I cant wait to see what you have for your next videos. Mahalo....
@@racheltalbott I'm sorry for this very late reply, but it is generally considered to be unsafe to ingest any form of essential oil due to how highly concentrated they are. Many people have fallen victim to the myth that they are safe for consumption due to some companies false marketing, and websites have been made to gather accounts on those who have suffered from ingesting/using essential oils improperly. I hope this is helpful.
This was such a great video. I’m definitely trying the AP cleaner. Thanks for sharing. We’ve been making similar switches in our family. I bought the cotton pads like you have for my kids to use when washing their face and it’s so easy.
This is one of the beast videos and I was looking forward to it !!! Thank you for sharing your Tips . I have been trying to focus on self care and improving our lives in the family - more home made products and other veggie/ fruit produce this summer and I am following you on Instagram as well for more ideas :)
Great ideas as always. I made your vinegar recipe for bathroom. It doesn't really clean well. I was wondering if vinegar is eunough for killing the bacteria on the floor or surfaces?
I really enjoy watching your videos and have tried several of your DIYs for myself and for friends. You make a lot of great sprays for cleaning and for room scents. Have you ever made a spray for masks? I’m a teacher and have to wear a mask all day at school and am looking to make my own spray.
Uh I love this so much! Can't wait to try these out! Just wait until you start milking your goats, you will literally never have to go to the store! It's quite a unique and humbling feeling!
Such a great video! Love the DIY recipes! How do you clean your beautiful, dark, brown faucet? Mine gets that white mineral buildup on it and I don't know what to use that will get it off.
Don't ever put baking soda on your teeth. I repeat, don't ever put baking soda on your teeth, unless you want they them to decompose, lose their protective layer and eventually fall off.
@@racheltalbott Try using Xylit instead. It's also in many toothpastes as Xylitol (and you can also use it as a substitute for sugar). It works against caries, which is awesome. But I wouldn't ever use only this, you should have a good toothpaste on hand all time. There are many great options which are very sustainable, in little glass tins with refilling packs (there is one from Ben+Anna in Germany, but I don't know if they ship worldwide)
I love Thieves Household cleaner, one bottle for my entire household cleaning! Even use it to clean my car, inside & out 💚 Minimalism when it comes to cleaning makes me sooo haply
Those last for about six months.. I like to put it into the bottom of my shower for an uplifting peppermint shower.. They go down the drain and compost. =)
