Not going anywhere but I want to get some projects done!
You might see some simple uploads, but my portfolio needs fattening up!
I would like to get the Veritas side clamp honing guide reviewed as it sounds like some people have some issues with it!

I've used the Veritas guide for a year. Works perfectly. I would like to watch others sharpen to get a full perspective before I think the guide is the issue.

Hi Dothan, that's good to hear. I'm looking forward to finding out if there is an inherent issue, is it fussy or was there a bad batch. Thanks for sharing your experience!

As much as I enjoy your videos and could listen to you talk around your bench every day, I would hate to take up to much of your precious shop time, lol. Either way, ill catch em as you upload. Looking forward to the future work. Cheers my friend.

That's a very positive and encouraging comment, thank you! I won't be going anywhere, just need to make sure there's enough good stuff to back me up 👍

The first Veritas side clamping honing guide skewed my Lie-Nielsen plane blade. The replacement honing guide doesn't skew my plane blade but does skew my chisels. I think I just need to learn to hone freehand.

It's not easy is it Li. You'll find a solution that suits you in the end. Freehand is very liberating but it's not for everyone.

I don't use honing guides but if I did, I'd go for a Stanley No. 200. It looks like a wonderful beast :).

Just looked it up Mihail. Wow, what a monster! I'll have to keep my eyes out at car boot sales.

the low storage cabinet in the olive ash is really stunning.

I had the veritas side clamping honing guide, used it once, and sent it back. It skewed my chisel to way out of 90°. Got the more expensive one and am satisfied with it so far.

That's disappointing Chis. At least you could send it back and you've got something you're happy with.

Where'd the soap flakes go? They're gone! Now I'm going to lose sleep wondering where they are. I have one of those finger comb router jigs for cutting half dovetails. It's pretty slick once it's setup.
@faceedgewoodworking

Just a tidy up/sort out. I have enough to see me out 😂. If you have a lot to do or can leave it set, those router jigs can be a great option.

@@faceedgewoodworking I took notes when I set the jig up. I'm pretty sure I recorded the critical dimensions. The joints are strong but they're not the same style as handmade. It is surprising how many that is lost on though. Not everyone appreciates the craft. I used to do a lot of box joints and many thought those were dovetails. It was depressing.

I use a cheap eclipse guide I got on Amazon when I started woodworking and it works perfectly fine. The only real issue I've noticed, which isn't the fault of the guide, is with antique stanley irons, the thinner irons, will flex if you tighten it too much. I've found hand tight is fine, you shouldn't be bearing down on the iron when sharpening anyways. Upload when you want to, if it isnt your source of income then people can deal with it

J, I'm assuming the cheap amazon option is like the Eclipse No.36? That's a decent guide. I think I'm right in saying Lie-Nielsen used to sell one of the cheapies before they launched their in house version. I'm not sure YT will ever be a source of income :). I'd need to take some lessons from Mr Beast for that!

@@faceedgewoodworking I don't know how true to the original no 36 it is, I'd say modeled after 😅 it gets the job done though

I'll miss your videos, especially these "chats". Quite different from anything else out there.

Thanks Dothan. I'll still be doing them, I enjoy it. But, I want to see some fruits of my labour 👍
