I am learning such an immense amount that is explaining to me why I’ve not been achieving the results that I’m content with! Your teaching style is crystal clear and so simple to follow. Thank you for the way you generously share all your time , ideas and passion for all things paper . Can’t wait to watch more past videos and excited-for what’s coming up ! Thank you Joie 💜
I think it is all about giving myself permission to experiment (and yes to fail) and to find my own unique way forward, none of which I could have done without you 🙏🏽
Your lesson "Enjoying what *you have, what *you want to put together, what works for *you" is what makes us all able to celebrate our unique creativity. This is where we meet our true joy ! Bravo !!!
I'm learning to do just this. When I sew an outfit for myself.. sometimes I use more than one pattern to get the look I want. It's good to do what makes one happy with their own project. Thank you for sharing. 😊🤗🤗
I'm watching your past videos and realized with this one that you must put lots of thought and time in before you actually film. Your analysis, your comparisons with your own journals, and your well paced delivery in today's video has struck some chords in me: theme especially. My journals so far have been a mix up of colors, pictures, whimsies I've liked, but themes will take me into other possibilities. Thank you!
I love them all. My favorite is the Scandinavian Christmas 🎄. One of my favorite size is probably the 9inch by 6 inch. Large enough to fold regular sized pages in half without needing to cut them and the 12 x 12 only need to be cut one way. Also the size accommodates large enough images. Truth is I like a variety of sizes for different reasons.
Hi there!! I've been considering a larger size but still with these proportions. I think you are bang on with that 9 by 6 size. A bit bigger will give more freedom to each page. I'm delighted that you visited and shared your thoughts. Hugs, Joie ❣️
I enjoyed this video. It is okay to fail the objective, it is okay not to like a journal you made it is okay to get inspired by others and only then you will start a trail to find and define your own style. I am glad you did a review of your own makings as it allowed us to pick up a bit of your brain. Tks again for a great vid.
You definitely get it, I can tell. I know that from watching your videos that you have defined your own style. It comes across. Thank you so much for your support. Joie ❣️😁
Hello Ian, you're welcome. I am loving using my paints, thanks for the suggestion about another set to buy that you gave me last week, they are now on my Christmas List. Joie xxxx
Mr Victor, hello my crafty friend!! Lovely to see another Journal creator. Hope you are having a great weekend. See you soon over on your channel. Joie ❣️😁
I cut that page down from a child's book ..I think it's a Hans Christian Andersen book. Take care my crafty friend, hope to chat again soon! Keep doing your videos. ❣️ Joie
As for size... I work with 9"x12" and 11"x14" (sometimes 13"x19", my printer output) flat sheets, which is the size of the watercolor paper I often use. Often I will fold them in half for a journal cover. Sometimes I keep the 9"x12" unfolded making a journal that size. There are many exceptions, for instance if I am making a journal using a hard book cover I've removed the pages from, or if I have a piece of leather which may dictate the cover size. Since watching your videos (almost done watching all of them) I've begun experimenting using book pages as covers and as you know, that can vary - but they are smaller than most of my previous journals, which is fun as well. Then there are the 100% fabric journals I make which are usually 8"x10" - no specific reason.
Loving your videos! Thanks so much for giving such useful information. It is really helpful as I begin my journey into making journals for sale. The details you point out are so important and easily overlooked. But it makes the pages very cohesive. Excited to begin!😍
Well that does sound very exciting Kiki.... making journals for sale! That's fantastic 😁 I'll look out for those. Thank you for your kind words. Always appreciated. Have a great weekend. Joie 💜🌿
Love this video. Lots of freedom to do what makes me happy. I always have a theme when making journals for other people, but my own tend to be more eclectic. I love those small journals and I’m going to enjoy making several for different times and/or purposes. For some reason the only separate one I’ve made before is one for quotes. I’m quite excited to get cracking again!
You're always so generous Rita....I hope that I have improved since this one 😁 I've had a craft room reorganisation and I'm pondering how I might be a bit more "open/accessible" on my channel....like....dare I do a live stream? Gulp!! Your support is so helpful for me, so thank you Rita. 💜🌟👍🏻
I somehow missed this video but found it now. I love all your journals. Although my thing is usually vintage, my favourite journals of yours are the more brightly coloured ones. I think you really have an eye for colour. Definitely do whatever makes you happy though. x
Hi Emma, yes I recall from your videos how you like to put different papers together to make more vintage style journals. I do love colour as you say. There seems to be a lot of interest on RU-vid for Vintage journals. I love looking at them all. Maybe one day we could both do a process video making a page or two. Hope you are having a great day. Chat soon my crafty friend. Joie ❣️😁
Great journals. I tried doing one but not really happy with it....but you have inspired me to keep going. Themes are a good idea ! Thanks for that ! Hugs. Carole in the UK
Hello Carole. I would love to hear how you get on. I think that we just need to have a go and see how a page turns out. If you don't like something you produce then maybe just try something different next time. The process of learning is delightful. Go for it, Carole in the UK. And thank you so much for watching and leaving this comment. I do really appreciate it. Joie ❣️😁
@@joiedefi Thank you so much for your kind response ! I think the main problem is that I tried to add some more pages by glueing four pages in the centre along the spine crease after I had sewn the signature... I wanted to thicken the book ..mmmm lol It was not a good idea ! It did not turn out very well. So that was a lesson for me. After watching your video , i now know that I can add more pockets and belly bands to bulk it out more :o) A big thumbs up for your help. I have made a few books in the past and always wanted to do a journal.Thats why I had to comment and Thank You. Hugs.
Clara, you have been such a kind and supportive crafty friend to me, so I really wanted that Thank You to be for you...You help me to keep trying and having a go at new ideas. I hope that you are having a lovely weekend. Hugs, joie xx
Hi joie 🌸 I totally agree, it's the same for me, what I mean choosing my Colour pallet for my paintings, I try to use more vibrant, saturated colour if you will as you'll have seen lol 😁 I really appreciate this chat with your journals it always gives me insperation ⭐thanks love really Fab video ✌️💞💕
Thanks Chrissy. I have found that watching painting videos has helped me think about colour choices, and also it has encouraged me to use paint more in my projects. I love the variety. Thanks for the watch and comment my northern, craft buddy. Joie xx
Really interesting and beautiful collection of journals. Love the variety of textures and tones in the different vintage papers. The Rupert bear one is really sweet. Tfs x
That's super feedback Michelle. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I try to get some variety into the designs and colour. I might make another Rupert Bear, I really enjoyed making that one. Joie ❣️😁
Love your journal-making tips. Thank you. I’m making notes. I love the size of this page, Joie. It’s really appealing, looks like a good size to carry along.
So well said, Joie, and so much food for thought. Size is the issue I have been grappling with...glad to hear your take. My new year plans are now less of a jumble. As always, hugs and smiles, Carol xo
Well I'm definitely keen to know what your craft and RU-vid plans are for next year. I wonder if there might be some form of collab between us ...As always, fantastic to have your visit over here. Take care, Joie ❣️
I really enjoyed this summary - very insightful and interesting. I have just seen you posted a video on how to get started making one so I will go give that a watch now! Xxx
