I'm a recent reread convert. Up until 2023, I only reread Marcia Willett's A Week in Winter and Rosamunde Pilcher's Winter Solstice each December. Now I'm compiling a list of rereads that I'd like to visit each year or two. I can't wait for the reread of The Shell Seekers!

I’m so excited to reread Shell Seekers too! It’s amazing how much rereading has enhanced my reading life! I had no idea that would happen.

Since I first read them at about age 12, I've re-read Jane Eyre and Pride & Prejudice every few years, but not much other re-reading. At about age 50 I took a class on Jane Austen and one on Dickens, which required me to re-read books I'd only read once (or not at all). And what I realized is that I had forgotten so much of the books I loved and also noticed so many things I missed the first time around. Twenty years later I have continued to re-read 20-25 books every year. Most re-reads of classics I usually do on audiobook, which adds another dimension to the experience. Right now I'm re-reading A Tale of Two Cities on audio and loving it. An interesting book about the benefits of re-reading is "On ReReading" by Patricia Meyer Spacks.

I have reread “the shell seekers” four times now and as much as I enjoyed it the first three I think I liked it even better on my fourth go around + I have given it as a gift to a lot of friends. I’ve also reread many of the little house books more than a few times over since I was quite young and I currently have a section on my shelf that are going to be in my reread category, but I do have quite a few on my TBR that I am trying to get to first😊 and whoever coined the phrase “so many books, so little time “was definitely spot on😂📚📚📚

I am so excited to reread The Shell Seekers this summer! It’s such a wonderful book! And I’m thoroughly enjoying reading my way through the Little House books this year.

I think age affects the rereading. For me, it's because I've now totally forgotten everything about the books i read and loved twenty+ years ago. Time to read them again!

My favourite time for a reread is when I’m not feeling well. 🤒Those are the times when I need something comforting and familiar. I also like to reread if I see an old favourite on someone’s bookshelf. I find myself thinking about the characters or the setting and can’t wait to get stuck back into the pages to relive the story. So yes, I’m a rereader. Rereads take up a small but welcome fraction of my yearly reading life.😀

They are so comforting! And I’ll have to remember that the next time I’m not feeling well. I think a reread would be a welcome balm then. 😊

I would never think that you're behind other people in knowing things, Jen! I tend to have book knowledge envy about the BookTubers who have had a head start on reading great and wonderful books that I have never heard of before. I feel like "Where have I been? How did I miss that author?" Thank goodness for RU-vid or I would still be behind in discovering great books. I normally do not reread books except if its required for class or book club. I do have a lot of books that I need to read and want to get to rather than already knowing the story of a previously read book.

Hi Jen…I am a rereader. I reread mostly favorite childrens and middle grade books. I have, however, reread all of James Herriot’s books several times. I do usually reread seasonal anthologies as the seasons change. As for adult books, it would have to be John Steinbecks books. My most reread book of all times is A Fine Romance Falling in Love with the English Countryside by Susan Branch. I love her handwriting, photos, drawings and her journey. It is my perfect escape book.🩷

Hi Jen, I don’t reread for a good long time but do enjoy rereading especially DE Stevenson, which I consider a palate cleanser and wonderfully centering if that makes any sense. Plus I have been rereading the older Rosamunde Pilcher books and also reading her short stories for the first time. I still have some of her books to look forward to! Also I love to reread the Miss Read books. Such wonderful comfort books! And of course Little Women and classics like that! 😊 Thank you! ❤

My re read project this year is my childhood favourites! I am enjoying it so much I am planning to do a year of re reads of books I really enjoyed that I still own. Up until this year I haven’t been much of a re reader at all. I’m not sure what has changed other than the fact that I asked myself why do I have copies of these books on my shelf, and I purged those I knew what not pass a readable criteria to be there.

I am definitely a rereader. My most frequently reread authors are Agatha Christie and Jane Austen. I also love rereading Nancy Mitford and EM Forster, especially A Passage to India, A Room with a View (Forster), and The Pursuit of Love (Mitford). I have a series recommendation for you, Jen. If you haven't read Elizabeth Jane Howard's Cazalet Chronicles, I think you would really enjoy them. The first book in the series is The Light Years.

I am DEFINITELY a re-reader. About every 2 yrs. I reread my absolute FAVORITE bk. of all time, LITTLE WOMEN. I also reread Wuthering Heights. Also 84 Charring Cross Rd, Robert Frosts poems,Anne of G.G, The Guernsey Literary and Potatoe Peel Pie Society. My first yr. to read Winter Solstice by Rosamund Pilcher so that will be a reread.Other poets and Nightingale by Hannah Kristen will DEFINITELY be a reread. I have always been a rereader, and used to feel guilty about it. Not anymore. My reading life is MY life. I DO NOT " buy into" the pressures of some bk.tubes, that I used to. Yours is NEVER one.🤗 Thanks Jenn, I agree w/ what you said in the beginning for WHY to be a rereader.

I haven’t been much of a re-reader in the past for the same reason as you. There are so many new books and so little time! But, I have taken to the idea in the last year. I want to re-read my favorite classics and books from my childhood. I recently re-read Little Women and The Blue Castle. I am going to start the Anne of Green Gables series soon and am working my way through Jane Austen’s books.

I've just gotten into rereading the last few years, and I've noticed it seems to be during times I need a little more comfort and reassurance in my life. The "All Creatures Great and Small" series is my favorite to return to. The way I read and the amount I read has significantly changed since having a child. He is my first and now a year old, and I finally am getting a bit more time to myself in the mornings and evenings to spend with books. However, it still doesn't seem like enough; only equaling a couple of hrs. As a mom, do you have tips on how to get more reading time in, or making the most of a limited amount of time, while balancing out a child and housework?
@jensreadinglife
@jensreadinglife 4 месяца назад
My reading changed a lot when my son was born. I didn’t read a ton for the first few years of his life. One way I did get some reading in was to do audiobooks. I would listen when I took him for walks in the stroller or in the car (when he was too little to understand). I also would listen while doing the dishes or folding laundry. And I did always make it a point to read for a few minutes before bed. Even if I only made it a few pages before falling asleep. And it gets much easier to read more as they get a bit older so just know that will come. 😊
