I am not a farmer but i have been observing some of the things that a farmer does in a day and after seeing that, i am truly thankful for farmers. Have a great day and thanks for all that you do!
I watched this video probably 2 years ago when I was looking for tips to recover my field. I didn't use any of this info ( I don't have a tractor ) but I watched it n e way and subscribed lol. Funny what shows up in the suggestions ( Blast from the past ) PS: I liked the video this time around. 😬
Here in Kentucky we do Alfalfa which typically last about 4 years. Not to mention very profitable if you get a good quality mix. We are in horse country so the get the best. However I would like to try that forage mix it looks so clean and your cattle seem to love it. Where do you get your seed mix? What is your price per 50lb bag?
Cool video, how often do you replant. Is it an annual thing or just to get it started? I know around here it’s mostly a grass hay that just gets mowed and baled every year! Take care man.
Thank you. This type of hay has to be replanted every year. I’m hoping to put half that field into alfalfa which should last 6-8 years but we’ll see. It’s kind of a pain to work ground and replant every year but it yields 4-5 tons per acre (when things go right) so it’s worth it!
This may be a dumb question from a non-farmer, but...could you ever incorporate the 3 stages together therefor only needing to make one pass of the field? ie: Tractor connected to fertilizer, connected to seeder and final connection to the covering machine as in a train effect. Thanks.
That’s not a dumb question at all, actually that’s a great question! A machine known as a Grain Drill does essentially what your describing, and it’s something that I want to get. But as with all good ideas they are a bit pricey! So for now this is what I’ve got to do...now I really want a grain drill!! Thanks Ting Tong
Thank you yes I do. Not really big enough to be able to hire help but honestly I prefer to do it this way. This hay is “one and done”. In other words, one cutting and then work ground, replant, repeat.
Hey Tyler! I came here from Ben Veeser's channel. Say, is your finished field a little ridgy? Or will it be smoothed out by rain later on? This hay is for which? Greenchop or dry hay? Or possubly pasture? Thanks for postin'
Thanks for checking out the video! The field does appear ridgy. The rainfall will smooth it out some but later when cutting and baling dry hay (small square bales) I drive all the equipment with the ridges so it’s not bumpy at all. Since this is winter forage, I only get one cutting in the spring and then I disc it up and start all over.
@@farmertylerranch4399 I did that a LONG time ago in a pig lot after I got it leveled out. I used corn, oats and soybeans, then greenchopped it for the Holsteins. Thanks for gettin right back to me!
Great job on the video man! Is that your spreader, or did you rent it from a co-op? Also is that a T4020? I noticed your fuel filler is on the hood, where mine is on the back.
Thank you! The company I buy the seed and fertilizer from furnish’s the spreader as well when they deliver everything to the field. My tractor is a T2420 so probably the little brother to yours. Yours actually looks exactly like my dads TN95a which it probably is. New Holland likes to put different model numbers on the same tractors for some reason. Thanks for watching!
@@farmertylerranch4399 Yeah New Holland is kinda funny about that. Mine doesn't have much more HP than yours. It's tested at 58.something, but is the identical tractor to its big brother T4030 at 78 engine horse. What part of Nor Cal are you in? I grew up in Petaluma (an hour north of SF with no traffic).
Denny's Country Life yes I know where Petaluma is. I’m between Sacramento and Yuba City in a small farming community called Nicolaus. I would have bet a paycheck you tractor was 95hp like the tn95, they are identical!
Ok if I may ask , what part of the country ya from ? I noticed on the float guard video the absence of heat tape or insulation on the water pipe . I like the scratcher packer combination tool there !!
I’m in Northern California so a hard freeze is rare here even in the winter. That’s also what enables me to plant a winter crop, I guess you can’t do that everywhere! Thanks for watching BTO!
@@farmertylerranch4399 Well thank you sir , I would have guessed south , didn't realize Northern California wouldn't get a hard freeze . I'm from west central Illinois, 60° yesterday, rain today changing over to snow tomorrow 🤧 got a love it
That’s a nice part of the country! Some areas in Northern California will get a hard freeze but not really where I’m at. If it does happen here it’s usually a little below 20 for a few hours (that’s what I call a hard freeze haha)
@@farmertylerranch4399 oh forgot to mention the autonomous New Holland , I've seen the case ih prototype, didn't realize New Holland had a version of it also lol
What size New Holland are you using. It's funny how we call things. You call it a ring roller, around here we call it a cultipacker. But it's all good.
Where can we get the seed that you planted? We are a hay operation and would like to try a new crop to cut and bale and we saw you were getting good yields on your cutting video.
Yeah would sure be nice but hard to justify the cost on my small operation. Hopefully they start getting cheaper or someone can come up with a phone app. I feel like a current smartphone has the capability to get within 6” or so? That would be awesome
