It's funny how guitar players react to nice guitars, or rather the owners of nice guitars. When you see someone with, say, a Ferrari you don't expect that the owner can drive like a prime Michael Schumacher, but with guitars there is still a sense that it's a tool and needs to be in the hands of someone who can use it to its limits. In the car example, I don't think it diminishes the cars that much that they are sometimes driven by, say, a very successful dentist.
Sold a lot of gear to afford the hardtail version, which is sadly much more expensive here in Europe. But dude, it's worth every penny. Bought it last week and couldn't stop playing when testing it at my local store.
I'm sitting on the fence rn. I want to buy one, but they're 3400€ at the big T-man. Is it worth it? Would you say the neck is wider than usual? I read in the specs the nut width is 42.9 mm ...
As a medical professional with a PRS CE24 hanging on her wall when not playing, I approve this video. 😂 I really do think the CE is the most underrated PRS guitar though. I hope they keep releasing artist signatures and other variations of it.
I bought a Core Custom 24 when I graduated high school 10 years ago. The only complaint I have is that I'll never be able to afford another one lol. It's banged up more than id like to admit, but hot damn it's perfect. I'd never buy a guitar expecting to not play it and bump it here and there. PRS fanboy for life
Dude! I like seeing you write riffs! It’s actually refreshing to see everything while you work through the process. I always feel like a hack when I’m writing but I guess it’s part of my “process” 😂
Everything you have said about the CE’s is true. I have a CE24 in satin Trampus Green. The Satin finish makes it feel even more alive, the bolt on maple neck is snappy. I think the CE’s are the greatest value in American guitars.
BTBAM was my first live show back in 2015 and ever since I have wanted Dustie's and Paul's guitars. I saw that purple guitar on stage it has been one of my dream guitars ever since. My goal is to someday play Colors in full. But I'm gonna need a few more years practice to do it. Such a good album that got my into screaming and heavier music. Great video.
@sunnohh I'll have to look into that! I only learned Selkies, and could never get it above like 75% speed. Right now I'm trying to learn Alluvial's Sarcoma but trying to do it on a 6 string because I haven't acquired a 7 string yet lol
My local store has 2 of these CEs on the wall, they are incredible! That Jade Smoke finish just looks incredible in person, the guitar plays incredible and stays in tune perfectly. The only reason I had to walk away was not having $2700.
Note: I’ve owned original floyd rose trems, I don’t think anyone would be able to tell the difference between a german floyd vs a 1000 if it’s not labeled.
I bought the Jade recently, have it for a week now. I bought one because of this video, actually. It's so much nicer in person, it's so metal. Sounds and plays fantastic. I called Sweetwater and asked them for a deal on the price. It ended up costing a bit less than $2700, but that is after tax, would have been almost $3k without me asking. I would ask your local shop for a deal and walk away if they don't give you one. They want to sell the guitar, so they tend to work with you. It's still expensive, so I get that even with $250-$270 off, it's still pricey, but everything helps. You can always finance the guitar and pay under $100 a month, which is what I did. Good luck, I hope you eventually get one.
@@itsalwayssomething7490 im sure my local store would give me a deal, I recently bought a PRS DGT an they treated me like a king, discount, tshirt, strap. I just can’t buy a $2700 guitar after spending 4k on one.
The PRS Archon 50 head is also immense for its cost. Not because it's lead channel matches Hunter's sound here (deep, fat, chug chug) but also because it's clean channel is pretty amazing. Not a one trick pony at all.
Dude!! Finally!!! I've been hounding you for months for this. I've wanted this guitar for a long time, only in Waring Burst (red and black is my favorite color scheme). I hope this come back in stock soon. BTW, full disclosure, I am a medical professional. On that screw in bar, that's definitely a preference. Personally, I'd change it out for a push in right away. Hunter, thanks for the review and I love your work.
I can't imagine anyone preferring the Floyd bars with the collar nuts over a push in arm. The bars with the collar nuts suck a$$. Even on the OG Floyds. They always have play in them, unless they are too tight. I changed that out on my Floyd too. Relatively easy mod, though.
Prs are amazing. Got three tremontis usa back in the day. Ended up selling them because i wasnt comfortable with the radious (10) and the small frets but i have no complains, felt and played like a piece Of art.
The Mark Holcomb SE I bought is my favorite guitar for going on 2 years now. I didn't even know who he was when I bought it but I've become a fan since. I was kind of a PRS hater before that impulse buy. I never thought they were inferior, I just never saw one that made me really want it... Until I did. It's really impressive what they offer for less than 1k. I plan on going for a US made one when the right guitar appears for the right price.
Idk about being more connected to your guitar via satin finish but i prefer it because i dont stick to it when sweating balls and doesnt leave fingerprints all over. Much easier to clean and shows less scratches or they are at least less noticeable
I have Dustie's 2014 Core model and I love it. Dying to try one of these myself. I want one of the hardtail models and have an Evertune installed actually. Coincidentally, I'm fairly certain that the previous owner of my 2014 Core was a doctor or a dentist lol
I use a PRS Floyd Custom 24 as my primary guitar. If ever there comes a time where I replace that, I would love if this were the guitar to do it with. Also Buried Alive by Alter Bridge at 17:35!! Such an underrated banger of theirs!
I’d say this is my favorite currently available PRS. Everything about it looks so sick. My ONE personal preference: I absolutely love maple fretboards. Arguably and possibly more than ebony fretboards. That being said, I really do enjoy a natural headstock when it the guitar has a maple neck and fretboard. That’s the one aesthetic gripe. For me - match the headstock to the body, or match the headstock to the fretboard.
It's funny looking back as the 1st PRS ad or endorsor I can remember is Chris Haskett from the Rollins Band. Plus Dave Navarro & obviously Tremonti. None of which brings dentist back office jams to mind.
Straight to the top of my list (the hardtail version). I hope your prediction is right and they make it a mainstay in the lineup. Having this beast as a limited edition run is crazy. And an SE version would likely outsell most others, surely?
I asked Sweetwater whether they thought this would be a SE version at some point. It depends on the demand. People wanted the McCarty SE version and it took many many years to get one. But, the Silver Sky got one really fast. Both guitars are great selling guitars for PRS, so who knows why one took years. I guess it's trying to figure out how to make a $4000 guitar for $900. I hope they make the SE Dustie Waring for people that can't buy the CE. I bought one because I couldn't wait to find out. I love it.
Only problem with the Floyd 1000 I've found is the collar for the trem arm wiggles loose quite quickly unless you like your trem arm to dangle freely. It's quite easy to change out to the 1500 version that uses a hex screw to clamp the arm down OR the redbishop magik arm (I think thats what its called) stays tightened down and feels perfect. Also when doing a setup you can take some Chapstick brand Chapstick and gum up the knife edges or something else really tacky. Otherwise, once broken in, they are great trems!
I get the feeling that after 3 iterations of the USA CE line that there will be an SE coming along as the next version. It seems like the natural progression and growth path for more Dusty fans to get their hands on "his" guitar, even in SE specification. I'd love the green in hardtail as an SE. They can get a more-than-decent quality SE and move up to the CE as they graduate and become Dentists. 🤣
I have a ‘97 CE that was on tour for years at Oz Fest, Vans Warped Tour, etc. It was pretty beat when I got it, but it cleaned up well and I compared it vs my friend’s 513 10-top, and I preferred the feel and tone of my CE. I also have a ‘92 EG with triple dominos, and a prototype piezo in the saddles. Awesome blues/rock/clean guitar. My third PRS is an SE, but it’s the one with a neck thru (not set neck), active emgs, and a Floyd. It absolutely chugs. The neck doesn’t have that broken in feel like my CE or EG, but it’s an import, and does the metal thing real well. I can’t say my CE doesn’t do metal well, bc it literally was on stage with a metal band for years! I think it does blues/rock better than metal, but obviously it can handle metal at a professional level. The really fancy $5k+ PRS look like art. I wouldn’t buy one to play though - just “too nice”. So I get why people call them dentists’ guitars. My friend has a private stock - it’s nice, but he doesn’t play it much. I’d love a Dragon III, but I wouldn’t play it.
i agree about the neck description thing. I don't know how many times I've seen a PRS I want to buy online, but I've skipped it because I couldn't get an understanding of the neck carve. I can understand how PRS would want to set itself apart from Fender or Gibson by doing everything differently. But the neck description is one way they could really do better.
To me, this guitar feels a lot like an ESP KH2 with the Maple Neck. Absolutely love this guitar, and the Floyd STAYS in tune better than my last hardtail!
I own one. The blacktop model with the Floyd Rose 1000. The neck is a bit thin, but I got used to it quickly. The FR1000 trem is solid af. It's fine. I actually have an extra OFR that I've been meaning to put on this because it's literally a drop-in replacement. I just haven't felt the need to do so. The FR1000 and OFR specs are identical, and again, the FR1000 is solid af. I really want to get the hardball too, but these axes are expensive... regardless, I want the handrail version, and I'll eventually get it somehow. For now, I got this SICK guitar!
As far as I'm aware those comments typically refer to the 10K plus private stock guitars. I have a Se 24 a Mark Holcomb 7 and a 2nd gen DW and they're all exceptional guitars. 🤷♂️
I love my PRSs, they're excellence and beauty in every detail :) I'm very interested to get a hold of the hartail version of this...I'm not a dentist, so i'll have to wait a little bit more haha. Nice review dude!
I know the CE fans aren’t going to agree with me but I recently got the PRS Mark Holcomb SE. With the Seymour Duncan picks it sounds amazing for metal and a lot more affordable
No because of the thin pattern profile!!! it's not a chunky neck so it actually feels narrower if that makes sense. This neck is fast and smooth!!! in best description" id say if a guy has bug hands and likes a baseball bat feeling neck this is the opposite and he probably wouldn't like it!!! mine though is my favorite guitar, all others have been collecting dust and I own a gibson lp standard, an American Tele and also a core prs cu24 and my dw ce is my most versatile instrument!!! i can play metal, classic rock, blues and even chicken pick with this thing!!! it's definitely the best guitar I own!!!
Had a guitar with a FR 1000 and the saddles where crap. Strings kept slipping out and tuning ran. Had to upgrade to Graphtec Stringsaver saddles to solve problem. Avoided the FR1000 since.
The best band around. You should get colors 2 tab book (guitar pro files) from sheet happens. I bought it immediately when it got released and i still haven't learned an entire song. Gotta learn little bits at like 60-80% speed haha. I want the black version with the wood showing in the wood. And i want Paul's ibanez.
You’re describing most of us who learn “pieces” of their songs lol. I remember first learning Selkies in 2006. I’ve since went on to relearn it probably 6 times in the ~17 years that I’ve been playing it and jamming to it. I’ll get my chops up after playing for several months straight and then remember that I forget how to play anything that I’m not frequently going to. Those guys are something else as far as players go
In many ways I really like my ce24 more than my cu22. The biggest reason why I wanted a cu22 was because of Clint Lowery's "Bruce Lee". I play my ce24 more because it's a little lighter, comfortable and really bites with lower tunings. I have D Activators in it, it's wonderful. Awesome video, I'm afraid I need a DW ce24 now.
I had one, they are great guitars! The Mojotone pickups are killer! My issue is the matte finish is instantly shiny anywhere you touch it. My OCD can't handle that. They need to make a gloss nitro version! I'd be back in.
Until Paul makes a compelling statement why PRS switched from WMIC to Cor-Tek for their SE builds, I can't consider them. Thanks for what was probably more great content (I am subbed for a while now) but I don't give eyeballs or $$ to PRS; lots of other great guitars out there, I'll be just fine. But the title of the video sort of pushed me to make a short mention, in good conscience as an internet citizen. Thanks again for all the great videos and information; entertainment is a bonus and you usually deliver that too.
I have changed out a FR 1000 and a FR Special for a Gotoh with no problem or need to route anything out. The only thing is that the Gotoh body inserts are bigger than the FR inserts, but just buy the OFR inserts separately and use them with the Gotoh. It is a drop in replacement.
Hey man..I’m looking for some kick ass drum tracks like what you use… where do you get the ones you use ? But keep in mind, although I’m not new to recording…I am doing this new music on my own with my MacBook Air, Focusrite 2i2 3rd gen, Blackstar Amped 3 100w amp pedal, and a few other pedals…my guitar I’m recording with is 2 Les Paul’s.. 2020 LP Trad Pro V with DiMarzio LiquiFire neck, Super Distortion bridge, and my Epiphone Jerry Cantrell Wino Les Paul Custom with stock neck, and Seymour Duncan JB bridge pickups, and my bass.. don’t judge me bro, a Glarry Jazz bass…I don’t care, the thing plays great for my needs…..but for my Blues Metal style, I need some kick ass drum tracks to use… can you give me any advice or tips or sites I can get them from ? The track on GarageBand that I’ve been using are okay, but I’m loosing my mind trying to find banging metal tracks !! Please help me out man..I appreciate you.
Come on everyone let’s get behind this so Tyler will be able to get the guitar! I don’t know why I want this to happen, it just kinda hit me the a lighting bolt!!!
I have one and not going to lie. It's bad ass and certainly better than my core custom 22 or any of my Gibson LPs. With that said i prefer the regular non DW ce24s as they feel a little lighter and neck isn't as distracting looking 😆
$18 from Sweetwater for a push in trem bar, and well worth the few minutes it takes to do the mod. I did that on me SE Floyd Custom 24. The Korean Floyd plays every bit as good as the OG.
If you know, you know. PRS make some of the best guitars you can buy. And the thing is, they don't have guitars that are insanely spec'd out. Nothing crazy, but the build quality just smashes in every regard. Playing a PRS just feels like a refined, streamlined, smooth playing experience.
PRS are the best players guitars. Get in the $2,000-$4,000 range, and yes they're pretty, but play them, ding them, gig them! My custom 24 is my go to lead guitar in the studio for good reason.
The FR 1000 is a great trem. It will always be about set up. I have guitars with FR original and FR 1000, I also have a Ibanez with the RG 550 bridge and I feel they all work well,
I’ve owned half a dozen SE custom 24s, a USA Custom 24, and a CE 24 over the years. The CE IS WITHOUT A DOUBT the best guitar I’ve ever played. The feel and playability have me face palming all of the time, and I currently own a SE Mark Holcomb PRS. The CE really is something special
That Mark Holcomb is a special guitar. Mark really put together a lovely and rare spec wise guitar with that thing. I didn't know I needed such a flat radius until I played it. For me it's so comfortable and its not easy to find a guitar that beats it in its price range.
@@SaintKines it is the best purchase I’ve ever made honestly. The flat radius really lends itself to playing better than people imagine at first. And the neck profile. Good god. Tell me why every time I pick up this Mark Holcomb I feel like I’m holding a trident. All the weight of a les paul(which I own a dark knight les paul sitting right next to the Holcomb) but perfectly balanced in a far superior playing instrum
