I really enjoyed the deck building portion of these videos. Deck building is something I've always struggled with with MTG so these are really helpful.
So glad that the deckbuilding portion is here and unedited! It's nice to just put on in the background and get a quarterly dose of Gavin pack cracking.

Goodness. I'm always impressed by how fast Gavin is. I've been attending Pre-Release event more or less for 10 years now and it is sometimes still a struggle to get a working deck on under 45 minutes.
@@GoodMorningMagic Out of 4 pods I only won 1 round for 3 consecutive pods. Had some really close matches and made some game play errors, could've easily won some pods 2-1. For the last pod I put all your lessons (key lesson - don't be fixated on mythics!) and my own together...achieved my very first 3 win pod! Gonna retell this epic yarn and open the prize packs in my next video.
It's definitely not faster to sort one colour at a time. Sorting into all colours at once has the exact same motions involved but going one colour at a time has the extra motions of you sifting through the deck an extra time each run through. Although to time of each run through is progressively shorter
I am very excited for my first pre release this weekend and this video just helped me understand the process of creating the deck SO MUCH MORE thank you VERY MUCH!
It's interesting seeing you build your limited deck. I usually sort by creatures and noncreatures and sort them by CMC (stuff like for Mirrodin! or raise the alarm would go in the creatures pile). I like laying it out for the curve like you did tho, I might try that this weekend!
Great video, Gavin! Love hearing your thoughts on a new set as someone who already has some familiarity with it. I also don't mind that this and the archetype video are separate.
Goodmorning Gavin! I have two question for you. 1. Wil we ever see more commander retrospective episodes? Those are lots of fun, nostalgic and insightful. 2. I don't know if you can answer this one, but here goes. Do you know why Bonepicker Skirge looks nothing like a Skirge in both it's artworks? It really irked me when i saw it during All will be one spoilers. The weird thing is that Vault Skirge allready established that New Phyrexia looked like OG Phyrexia's Skirges.
It's sad to see your cool prerelease card already pringle-d and cast aside in favor of Gruul ^^ Really interesting process, I'm new to sealed (well, I'm relatively new to mtg in general) and while I do understand some basic, seeing it in action like that still helps a ton refine my own process and will make things go smoother Saturday
If I was there, I'd have gone with rakdos splashing either white or green. I think you are underestimating the black cards - Phyrexian Arena, the removal and the rare land were top.
i think personally i'd have played either the 2nd sporesinger or the combat trick over slobad - you're overvaluing the body if the textbox is going to be flavourtext most of the time
Wow. Gavin. I appreciate the thoughtful approach to getting rid of trash fast for the sake of other players' comfort, but putting all your stuff in a single pile without even looking still creeps me the heck out. I'm gonna do that on Friday. Psyop my opponents a bit before the game even starts.
I used to love watching these videos. And then magic tried to charge $1000 for proxies. It just feels like I’m a money bot for investors. I used to buy a box of every set. But I can’t do it. Haven’t played magic since 30th was announced. It just feels bad. 😞 I miss the game.
i think Gavin is doing his best to make magic the best game it can be. He's been designing great cards for many years and clearly loves the hobby and it's fans. If anyone is to blame, it's not him.
