Caleb's guest today is Fred from Spiritus Systems, who walks us through the process of setting up a basic chest rig to take a training class. For this exercise, the requirement is pretty simple: you'll need your rifle and a way to carry spare ammo for it. Fred starts with the Spiritus Micro Fight Mk V chest rig and shows us how to add a magazine insert for three 5.56 AR-15 mags. Caleb asks, "How deep into the chest rig should the mag carrier be positioned?" Fred's rule of thumb is the top of the mag insert should be no deeper than ONE INCHE below the top of the chest rig's placard.
With the mag insert taken care of, let's add a set of Spiritus Fat Straps so you can actually wear the chest rig comfortably. The straps are designed so you'd have to work pretty hard to attach them incorrectly! Now, add a back strap that'll go around your waist and hold the chest rig snug to your body. Injuries do happen during training, so let's add a Spiritus GP pouch to the rig to hold a first aid kit and maybe your phone. That's enough for tomorrow's training class, but if you need a different set up in the future, you can easily add more accessories to this rig.
