I've had this thing 5 days already and I'm impatient! So as a sneak preview ahead my review, let's talk about ZAP Dino Megazord and how it fares when compared to major iterations from Megazord Design past. Thanks for 13,000 subscribers!
Honestly, I really appreciate the articulation on this (which I feel is the point of the ZAP line). I’ve never been impressed with die cast as a feature, so I don’t miss it at all. It always felt more gimmicky than functional or necessary. I’d MUCH rather have inventive articulation - especially since I collect to display. I agree about the chest on the ZAP megazord, but it doesn’t totally bother me. The scale is perfect though. 👌 I really feel that Hasbro did really well with the ZAP Megazord. The size, the articulation, the added detailing. Heck, even the packaging! When they are all lined up, the ZAP Megazord really stands out.
I see comments about how legacy was better just cause it was die-cast...but we were forced to have zord builder ports and needed leg clips for ultrazord or even megadragonzord from the weight of the die-cast. I can't wait for my ZAP megazord to come in. Can't wait for your review. Not only do I enjoy your reviews to find out about how zords I don't have are, but they help me appreciate zords I already do have because I usually learn some new detail or feature from your reviews. Your megazord reviews are hands down the best on youtube.
Love your videos. I live vicariously through them (don't have my childhood zords anymore, don't have the space for loads of new ones) and enjoy them greatly. You provide a great level of detail and bring in quite a bit of both historical context and modern comparisons that I can appreciate as an adult collector.
The lack of screen accuracy, the price being $172 (where I had it pre ordered) and the fact that it's all plastic, this was an absolute miss. Thanks for saving me money, I'll pick it up when it gets on a deep sale. The sad thing is the best part of this is the Box. Hasbro wow.
Weight doesn't equate to quality. I would rather have a figure that I can pose then a brick that can only stand one way just because it has a few metal bits. More parts equal more molds and is the bulk of cost.
I think it looks incredible. Still. $100 makes a lot more sense for this. That price point is outrageous. Still, I will buy it. Why? I love power rangers and I don't have my OG megazord from childhood.
@@jonc2914 oh really? That's sad to hear. The truth is this probably would've done really well if they'd started with any other Megazord, but the SOC version being so recent I think hurt it. People's wallets were either still sore from buying it or their hearts were still sore from missing it, and ZAP doesn't exactly fill that hole. Insult added with the first Hasbro Dino Megazord being such a let down recently too. If they started with the Thunder, Astro, or even Zero Megazords, I think this would have been a slam dunk. Shame.
I see alot of people suprised or shocked at how much articulation hasbro has put into this. This is hasbro, the company who for years have been producing well articulated figures of transforming robots in the transformers line. I would also be curious to see if the weight complaint that seems to keep popping up is in comparason to other bandai megazords and what a collector outside of the power rangers umbrella would think of the weight in comparason to other collectables. Just some things I noticed, I do plan on picking this up soon enough as a display piece as I do think it does look the part in that regard
Wow, ZAP is so much bigger, and easily the most articulated. Sure the deco isn't as show accurate as SOC but it's still a premium deco by comparison. Easily worth it for the deco, articulation, and size. And it's good that it isn't plastic. SOC is metal, much smaller, and can barely stand without flopping over (forget the combined mode). This one can take full advantage of the articulation because it's plastic.
If GX-72 didn’t come out, I’d say this was the definitive version, as it’s clearly evolved from all of its predecessors. It makes me feel like we’re in an alternate reality because this came out after the GX-72. Like this has some new interesting gimmicks that none of the previous variants have had. But it just seems a step down in its overall quality when compared to the GX-72. Like the GX-72 is definitely a higher end collectible with its materials used and paint. If we were to get a mixture of this and the GX-72 that included all the gimmicks, articulation, quality materials, and no parts-forming, maybe throw in some lights and sounds, that would be the absolute definitive version.
I agree your viewponit, dude. There are different detail on ver.Zap ,but the paint of face that's verry tragedy between GX-72. I'll look forward to different style dino megazord coming soon in 2023.
I have no Dino Megazord, could've gotten Legacy but hated it. Wanted Soul, but too pricey for me then, could've gotten it now but aftermarket is too pricey, haha. Happy with this. Not the biggest Dino Megazord fan, I grew up with the Thunder Zords. But I still wanted a Dino Megazord and this is more than good enough.
I passed on legacy and soc I put my order in for this today. Ppl complaining of height and jot accurate no zords will ever. I like the size and I have the zeo zord the articulation. No other zords except for soc can be posed differently. I don't like that stiff zord look. Awesome pick up.
You know as kinda disappointing zap megazord was at first, I’m so happy it didn’t turn out anywhere near as horribly as the matty collector Voltron. Also I’m loving the Ashens review couch as table set up lol!!❤
@@ceebree3387 agreed, also even though it is generally affordable compared to maybe legacy, the difference is not proportional. I have it, or at least ordered the reissue which is coming, but i think for what it is, it is quite expensive too. Not as disproportionate with the price of this new one definitely
I think the problem here is that for that price, it is too similar to the cheap hasbro one. I dont think people would mind the design changes that much or even the absence of diecast. It's the quality for that price
im extremely excited for the astro megazord they've announced, and hopefully they'll give us the delta megazord to combine with it like they're doing with the dragonzord for mighty morphin
Just grabbed it for $125 from Gamestop's 25% off collectibles sale. My condolences to those that preordered this at full price only to see steep discounts only four weeks later!
I literally just want the box inserts for this one and the Dragonzord one. Wish they would spend more time with their box art give people more ways to display. Would love it if I could get mmpr in boxes that looked liked their zord cockpits but I’ll just have to 3D print them instead
As impressive as the articulation is with this I think I'll have to give it a miss. I would've liked to have grabbed the alt colour version, which you had to buy the NFT and then redeem the code for the "free" megazord. Unfortunately it was stateside only, and the aftermarket prices are a bit mental. Also looking forward to your full video review!
I would have bought this if A. The face looked more like the SOC megazord B. The shoulder M's weren't translucent C. The plastic and joints were sturdier D. Was $100 instead of $150 - for $150 this has too many QCIs based on other reviews I've seen.
I agree...I am not sure why people are loving the extra little details, Theyre inaccurate, Whats up with the bizarre honey comb pattern? i am a sculptor though, If i were to buy this i think the head would have to be re done, or 3d printed. and arms and chest re done.
Screen accuracy meaning you want the version of Daizyujin/Megazord which was a guy in a rubber suit? If you really want the Suit-accurate version, you better hunt the *X-Plus* ma dude.
I assume it wasn't screen-accurate, but with my original '94 toy (another Brit here!), I kept the Pterodactyl's wings out in tank mode. I just think it looks better - gives her abit more presence in the mode.
people think I'm nuts when I talk about how incredibly stiff and hard to move/connect a lot of these pieces are. the Rex knees are extremely difficult to move (to pull the nubs out) as you demonstrated, but for me, one of the slots for the Pterodactyl to fit onto the Mastodon legs in Tank Mode isn't shaved down all the way so I have to jam it in there. I'm genuinely surprised at how simply it clicked into place for you. and in Megazord mode my Pterodactyl can basically pop off randomly too. plus with the abs, it tends to move backwards or forwards on its own whenever it wants. it's been a frustrating thing so far. 50% awesome design vs 50% genuinely distressing design choices. also forgot to mention your Mastodon shield clicks very easily onto the Rex chest, mine definitely requires a lot of pushing, kinda like the way the cannons go on the Mastodon's feet (which I also had just as much trouble doing as you did)
The knees are absolutely shocking! And the chest plate / pterodactyl is constantly popping off after I touch it. But does look fantastic stood still. Should I buy the dragonzord zap or sell this one and get the legacy versions of both?
SOC Dino Megazord is THE definitive Dino Megazord in this scale. Bar none! I feel bad for those that missed out on it. The ZAP is a cheaply made copy that sells for more than its worth, IMO. But, if you want that version for what it does do well enough and the extra added gimmicks, Go for it. But for now, NOTHING is beating the SOC Megazord.
On the whole I love mine but it came with all left hands so trying to go through the site I bought it from AND Hasbro to get a pair of right hands so he's complete. Other than that parts issue with mine he's great and I won't knock my final thoughts on him for it.
SOC was always at a minimum $700Aud, and I could never justify that. So I’m glad this version is available, even if it’s not as nice or fancy. And unrelated, but looking at pics, the ZAP Dragonzord doesn’t match the aesthetic of this release at all. The Megazord has all this added detail, and panel lining and clear parts, etc., and Dragonzord just looks like Dragonzord.
It just doesn't meet the quality for the price. Mine has paint blemishes everywhere as well as I think some of the grey plastic parts on the elbow are yellowing. No where near worth the asking price they have for it.
Pro: Big & more articulate Contra: Hollow parts, unpainted Rangers in cockpits, looking cheap & overall too damn expensive for the quality that we actually get. Conclusion: Save your money to buy the SOC (if you haven't already) coz that one is still the definitive version of Daizyujin/Megazord for adult/pro collectors.
@@wsmstudio3329 That's just IMO. If anyone wants the *definitive* version of Daizyujin/Megazord, saving money to get the best iteration is the way to go rather than wasting $150+ to buy a really flawed one. Also, I did say my comment above is more for adult/pro collectors (who can afford it).
I am so disappointed with the quality considering the price. The box looks amazing though. I am very hesitant as to whether I should buy it. Shame it doesn't have any die cast elements.
what scale of monster toys would you assume would scale good with the zap megazord and r the rest like dragonzord and titanus i am talking about in inches.
13:42 I wonder if you couldn't swap the shoulder pads so the painted yellow was forward in Megazord mode. Of course, then the "candied" colors would show in Mastodon mode, but something tells me most people are buying this for the Megaboi 20:42 I agree, but the ZAP figure is so much "less", I'll take the slightly weaker poseability from the SOC any day. 20:58 when a Combiner Wars figure cost roughly $110, four figures of which were quad-changers and the big one in the middle was a triple changer, I can't believe they're charging $160 for this when 3 of the five really don't even transform. Trex and Mastodon are the only two that actually have anywhere near transformation-level engineering and Mastodon itself is a parts-former. And then this thing is apparently non-existent as far as weight goes? Man, I'm glad I cancelled my preorder. 31:22 we should listen to him, he saved people when that ship sank. 1:08:39 it is 100% *not* a sensible use of money. Still 100% glad I got it 😂
