I recently tried the Edition XS and Sundara. What I realized is that I don't think I like planars in general. I can't speak for the Flow's specifically, but the Hifimans I tried sounded artificial. The soundstage (on the Edition XS) does not sound realistic to me and the detail/instrument separation sounds processed. Cymbols also have a weird timbre (even with FLAC tracks). I know we all hear things differently so I completely get that others will not feel this way. It wasn't until I got the Focal Elex that I finally could say that my music finally sounded like I felt it should- and neutral sounding headphones are a must for me. The dynamics of the Focals is something that I never knew I needed... I enjoy that aspect of the Elex far more than a bigger soundstage or buttery highs. The Focals have a texture to the highs that I absolutely love. It works especially well with hard rock/metal and grittier sounding acoustic tracks (like on Giant Sand Tucson). I also do not listen at high-ish volume levels, so I rarely deal with fatigue. The Elex isn't for everyone, but they finally hit the sweet spot I've been looking for (after trying many Sennheisers, Grados, Hifimans and Beyer Dynamics).
Here is my review of the Aeon Flow Open: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uW8iZSrs9Jk.html Here is a link to my review of the Aeon 2 Closed: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WLcGZHdg7Wk.html As for differences, it has been a very long time since I have heard any of them. I honestly don't recall much of anything that isn't covered in the reviews. I don't remember enough to give a fair comparison. Sorry. I will say this that I prefer Dan Clark closed backs to open backs, atleast the ones I have heard. Here is a link to my Ether C review, this is one of my reference headphones: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LRXFwHJZeI8.html
Great review. Just ordered some aeon flows opens and the new perforated pads. Drop version has them. Suppose to help with soundstage and mids. Will try both pads and see which I prefer. Have the Elegia and with EQ they are great as my closed back option. Not bad stoxk, but really come to life with EQ. Also been looking at the clear, but they are 2-3x price. Need an open back that is very comfortable and sound good. Also want something that is a little warmer than neutral. Like the fact you can change tuning with inserts vs you get what you get. There is always EQ as a backup. Looking forward to hearing them.
Awesomeness. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the AFO. I have only heard the Elegia at audio meets, would love to get one in for review. I think your ears will be very blessed with your audio gear, great choices.
Been a long time since I've heard either. But if memory serves me correctly the 650 has better tone and timbre and the Aeon has better bass impact and is extended better in the bass and treble. The Aeon has a slightly wider and deeper soundstage but the 650 does better with layering and seperation.
I am interested in the Dan Clark audio aeon 2 closed back and would like to know which amplifier it needs to drive this 🎧 reasonably. Is a better mobile DAC or DAP sufficient? Or does it have to be a stationary amplifier?
I haven't had a chance to hear the Dan Clark Audio Aeon 2 closed back and I didn't have much time with closed back version of the MrSpeakers Aeon Flow. But I did have a open back version of the MrSpeakers Aeon Flow and loved them. They played well with all my ss amps and also my mobile amps and DAC. They are very easy to drive but do benefit from a moderate power amplifier.
Thanks for the comparison, since I was considering buying one of these. Most comments I've seen regarding the Aeon Open and Closed have expressed preference for the Closed. I now have them on order.
Robert Noblitt I’ve been looking at and listening to the AFC at my local shop. I do really like them although they are a little tough to drive, even at 13 ohms. It’s a tough decision due to the Focals being so dynamic and engaging. Are you enjoying your AFC and do you have any thoughts or regrets on that decision? Thanks in advance!
Hallo David , thanks for the review ! Wanted to ask you a question not considering a cost but the music quality only : M1060Cs stock/open mod or Aeon X ( Drop Aeon Flow Open tune ) . and yes , i love details definitely and overall good quality sound not lacking but resolving . Please assist with your oppinion .
@danrdey Well I haven't heard the Aeon X and I have heard a modded M1060c but not a stock version. Sorry I am not really comfortable recommending the modded version because not all mods are equal. I would actually recommend the Ether CX or the Elex.
@@TheHonestAudiophile Thank you . Considering that Aeon X is sort of Aeon Open , you advise to go with Aeon or Cx ? ( i would grab Elex , but they don't sent to my country unfortunately , thinking of them a long time ) Aeon open or Ether CX ? ( soundstage , imaging , detail and overall ) Yes there 250$ difference but if i have the money , which one to go ?
Hey Dave i have chosen theses headset what would you remove from the list. I'm licensing to Rap, Hip-hop, Reggeaton, Trap, Spanish Music. Focal ELEX vs DT 1990 PRO, Hifiman Ananda, HIFIMAN SUNDARA, HD 6xx. Like some bass, vocals and highs dont like bass overpowering my music tho
I would rank your list like this: 5. Beyerdynamic DT1990 Pro 4. Focal Elex 3. Hifiman Sundara 2. Sennheiser HD6XX 1. Hifiman Ananda But I dont normally listen to those styles of music so take those recommendations as you want. Also I have very limited, like 10 minutes, of listening on the DT1990 Pro .
@@TheHonestAudiophile Thanks for the reply ill helps in making a decision. What Amp - Dac you recommend. I'm using them for gaming as well on my pc. That's where there home would be.
@@cisco150 My current DAC/AMP combos are: Grace Design SDAC-Balanced into a THX 789 Mytek Liberty and also balanced out to the THX 789 Geshelli Labs Enog 2 into Geshelli Labs Erish
Stop !!!!! Headphone Comparisons are COMPLETELY SUBJECTIVE ! "Let's Compare" ???????....... Better still "Let's Not" ! (I personally could care less about mobile audio...... I don't want a "Mickey Mouse" 1/8"/3.5mm connector that I have to put a 1/4"/6.3mm Adaptor on .
I agree that comparing is subjective but reviews are also. Comparisons can be helpful. As for mobile audio; a lot of viewers and audio lovers use mobile very often, so that's an area that should be covered in a review or a comparison. Thank you for watching and your comments are appreciated. I always love to hear other people's thoughts and opinions.
"What's my age & 'background in (& when we talk about it as our hobby we generally capitalize the 'A') Audio ?",... Really ???? We're going to have a Peeing Contest over Subjectivity ??? (I suppose I should have been a bit more subjective myself.....I simply forgot to delete my posting...... Oops !!!)
Hey..... I'm not angry ! I'm sorry if you thought I was messing with you about your knowledge of anything ! I try not to be flippant about things (& most of the time I'm not) Some days I just have "Bad Days". (Fortunately I don't have these too often ! ) (& with that I'll leave you in peace, "Young Feller")
