Let's Craft: Library Book Nook

Hi there! :D
This week, I'll show you a very cute project that was made as a birthday gift to a fellow bookworm friend of mine. She's mentioned before how much she liked book nooks, so I took that as my cue to get working :D
I looked at a few designs online, but nothing could really peak my interest enough to make a copy. So I finally got around to making my own design. I wanted to focus on a cozy, warm feel and of course as many books as possible. It shouldn't be too neat, but I knew early on that I wanted to sort the books roughly by color.
This was the first project I completed after my big break, so it's a little less structured than other videos. I tried to sort the files into some kind of a sensible order lol.
But I feel like you still get the idea of how to build your own version if you want to :D
It felt really good being back in the workshop, even though I had gotten rusty. Turns out muscle memory is a thing when building things, so I often fumbled with where to place what and with having to think two or three steps ahead so I had pieces ready to grab. That got better by the decorating stage, however, so I think it's like riding a bike.
I specifically wanted to start with a miniature (well aside from the fact that a birthday present is time sensitive, lol) because it seemed less daunting than the large mask and prop projects that were still on my drafting table.
If you want to recreate this build or something with your own twist, you will find measurements in the video or down below, as well as a list of all the things used.
As I'm still struggling my way through a very new life, I'll try to schedule a video every other Friday. So hopefully I'll see you here again very soon :D
Don't forget to like and subscribe if you haven't already!

Materials and measurements for the room box:
4mm birch wood sheets
2 pieces - back panel and door (if you want one): 8 x 15 cm
2 pieces - sides: 15 x 21 cm
2 pieces - bottom and ceiling: 9 x 21 cm
craft sticks
however many shelves you like, length 8 cm for the back and 15 cm for the sides
coffee stirrers

PVA glue
paper glue stick
additional decor:
wooden chair
4mm birch wood
5mm foam board

ruler
saw
paper clamps or clothespins

I love that this a great looking nook that can be done without a cutting machine and an engineering degree! Thank you!

Beautifully crafted! I would add a persian style rug under the chair and a lamp on the window ledge to add to the realism. And perhaps a coaster and coffee mug too haha. So happy RU-vid suggested this video to me, I will be sure to check your other videos now.

A million thank-yous. I've watch a thousand youTubes...and not one of them really shows you how to do it. Although it was ok WATCHING them create...I'm trying to learn how to do this so I can create. Thank-you SO much for sharing...I really appreciate it. I NOW think I might be able to tackle this.

I don't really have much interest in book nooks, but I do like miniatures. I like that all your books look different, or at least that's the impression I get. Most videos I've seen just have a few different covers that are duplicated dozens or even hundreds of times.

Wow. That was very mesmerizing to watch. I loved it. I love all the books. The end result is beautiful.

Fits well into my space, I painted the back green. It's very easy to customize just the back if that's something you want to do. I would suggest sanding it first before painting, I got a little impatient. The shelves ru-vid.comUgkxM8H4CjCb79vzeyvgaFMdzmLm88oVFPMkare pretty small so keep that in mind if you're going to have it horizontal that some books won't fit. I like the snug look that it has. Good small shelf if you don't have much space, but not too small. Simple to put together, though you'll need your own tools, a screwdriver and a mallet/hammer, it's easiest to do with another person.

Thank you for showing us how you made this lovely Book Nook. Your friend must have been thrilled to get this as a present. In another video I saw about making these BN's the guy who did it 😢said that 3mm thick Birch plywood is the best wood for making a Book Nook because it's less likely to warp or swell than other materials, and it's nice and strong. Have you ever tried using a mirror in a Book Nook? They look fantastic because they create the illusion of more space in the Book Nook and you can create some really interesting effects. i dont use those shitty toothed saw wheels for the dremel, unless the work is clamped, not held in the fingers asking for big trouble, instead use the diamond/fiberglass cut off wheels they wont bite and send the dremel right into your fingers.

Muy bonito trabajo. Tengo una pregunta. Dado que se pegan los libros, no sería mas fácil hacerlos con madera y forrar con las tapas? Gracias

This is amazing and definitely an inspiration to my grand library I'm building. What scale would you say this is?
@LunaRogers
@LunaRogers Год назад
Hi, glad you like it 😊 I'd say it's around 1:24th scale but not quite. I based the measurements on the other books on the shelf so it'll fit seamlessly.

Please can someone tell me where to find the book covers. I want to make a diorama in memory of my lovely Dad, he had a lifelong love for books. (This is the best way to make the books that I have seen, with actual pages. I will age some and make them a bit dogeared from years of love).

@@w.dossett3332 Hello. Luna Rogers replied to an earlier comment regarding this but I actually found some on Pinterest by searching for Miniature Book Covers…you’ll need to print them out yourself though. Not sure if you could buy them anywhere ready to use if you don’t have a printer. Hope this helps and good luck, Pam. 😊
