I just bought a 60 C10 and in the process of tearing it down, this is the 3rd 60-67 truck I've done. Just an FYI an early (79-83 ) fox body gas tank will slide right between the rear frame rails of these trucks will no cutting or fab except drilling your holes into the frame to mount it.
@@RESTORATIONRESCUE Yeah Boyds are good too, I was just pointing out that the Foxbody ones slide right in, we took off a 82 T-Bird and it slid right in, all the Foxbody tanks are the same npo matter if it's a T-bird, Mustang, Fairmont or whatever.
I got a 69 C10 given to me a few weeks ago! And its in a baddd rusty condition. I too am looking to learn how to restore everything. Body work, all that. I know a little bit about engines. Its got a straight 6, 250 in it. Its a little locked up at the moment so i got aome ATF in the cylinders trying to loosen it up so i can turn the crank manually. Still nothing though.
Thanks man I got a lot accomplished today so hopefully the video will hit early next week. Tomorrow might be a motor pull which would take a few more weeks
Thanks I appreciate it. I know I say ummm a lot. I’ve been trying to work on it, but I do my stuff unscripted so it’s a little tough cause I’m thinking of what to say next.
Get some second hand tires Apiece of sheet aluminum for covering floor A tube of liquid nails to glue floor down Spend most time on brakes, new drums and wheel cyls. And shoes Master cyl., rubber brake lines, front and back You are now ready to get it to run. Fill cyl with Marvel mystery oil. Wire brush the plugs, sin it over to remove oil from cyls after several days. Replace plugs, start it up. If it runs you are in good shape. B12 the carb on outside then apply WD 40 liberally. Slap on finder. Don’t remove anything on body, finder, bed, anything. You won’t haul anything back there anyway Pressure wash all the dirt you can. A good can of clear paint from the Dollar Store will retard rust till next year. You can drive it till then. Nobody cares what it looks like but you anyway. You might change the oil while you are at it. Running gear and drive train are first most. If girls don’t like your truck, they won’t like you either. Mix a little sugar and water to spray to make it shine. You asked for help When you are 80 like me you will know I was right in my advice.
Very cool truck!!!! Saw your post on Facebook, Hard core C10, just subbed! I'm looking for a 60's to early 70's C10 with patina, something like you got.
Thanks a lot man. They are out there and there a lot of cool looking trucks out there with the patina. We thought about it but our truck was a little too rusty for that.
Just started a 62 Short Bed Fleetside project myself, about the same shape, but some upgrades had already been done. I'll look to find your progress videos now...
Great so far. Me and wife owned a 68 GMC we were going to restore, but after she passed I just didn't have the motivation to do it. I ended up selling it also. We just wanted to make ours look new but stay away from OEM parts to keep the cost down. They do male a lot of aftermarket parts for these old trucks also that still look OEM. I was going to go with all new bolts, washers and nuts too. I have watched plenty of videos on how to remove rust from them and treat them, but it's just a lot of work unless you are staying with a complete 100% OEM matching numbers truck. Keep up the great content and videos coming. Well worth my sub here. Oh by the way, be thankful you aren't here in this GA. Heat doing the work.
Sorry to hear about your wife. My plan is to do some upgrades from stock to be more comfortable and since I broke a lot of bolts I’ll probably buy new haha. But thank you very much I appreciate it.
@@RESTORATIONRESCUE Thanks and your welcome. Yeah going with all new bolts will save you time and pain. I'm looking for a car for me and daughter to restore now. She is only 11 and it will give us something to keep busy doing.
It takes slot of guts to start ur first project I may be 15 but I do know a thing or 2 about old project trucks lol congratulations I will watch every episode !
LMC Truck has everything you need for this thing...most reasonable pricing too...glad you're gonna give this rust bucket a paint job...I'm not a fan the so-called 'patina' look...if you're gonna restore it, it needs to either look factory fresh, or better than factory...leaving it looking like you just drove it out of a junkyard is just ain't my thing...mine will be immaculate when I get done with it...I'm trying to put the wraps on my rolling chassis, & start my bodywork...hopefully I'll get some major progress done this year...check out the channel Gibson63...he's done 2 1962 trucks...one patina, one immaculate...but even the patina truck has all the rust repaired on it...he's an amazing instructor...and he's not a pro either...
We have definitely used them and they are a huge help. So is Gibson63 channel. It’s been a blast watching him and doing our build. I can’t wait to have my first drive!
Good to see you found both of them already...Lol! He's a real inspiration for DIYers...the red truck was his first & it's won him some well deserved awards, & it's hard to believe that's his first paint job...he actually inspired me to finally pull my old truck out from under the pine tree it sat under for several years & get started on it...if I were better funded, it would be done by now, but I guess every man's journey is different...& in the end, it's good that it did take this long, because I was able to do a lot of chassis upgrades with full tubular suspension, coilover shocks & disc brakes all around, so that was actually for the best, or it would be mostly stock...I'm doing an old school build, so no lowering, & no wagon wheels with low profile tires, but I'm glad I was able to upgrade my chassis...it'll have stock ride height & still be able to be used as a truck, but still handle like a sports car while doing it...
@@Road_Rash that’s awesome!! Ours is kind of a resto mod. Upgraded brakes and obviously the 305 that is in it when I got it but it’s gonna keep all the rest is gonna try to be stock.
Awesome! I look forward to seeing the progress...my truck has been in the family since new & I want it back on the road so I can one day pass it on to my nephew...my dad bought it new off the lot from Red River Chevrolet in Bossier City, Louisiana on August 20, 1969...(I still have all the paperwork, including the first insurance policy, which I'm going to frame later)...that was almost a month to the day before I was born, they had a new Nova at the time too, & when I came along, 3 kids & 2 car notes was a bit much for them, so my grandfather took up the notes & drove it for the first 20 years of it's life til he got old enough that it hurt his leg to work the clutch & then he gave it back to my dad, then a few years later, he gave it to me...I drove it for several years, & did at least 2 engine swaps before parking it for just over a decade thinking I'd restore it eventually, but never got motivated until I saw Gidson63's channel...I literally grew up in my truck & it's like I'm breathing new life into an old friend...I can't wait for the day when it gets finished...I'm ordering a ton of body panels to fix all my rust holes in a couple weeks...I've been waiting almost 6 years to start bodywork & I'm finally ordering sheet metal! It's starting to get exciting! I'll watch & see how your build goes, apparently I have a year's worth of videos to catch up on! Great to see you saving this one! 🖖🏿😎👍🏿
I ran across your channel doing C10 build searches and started with the newest videos and then worked back and saw this video. I think I looked at this truck at couple times over near the old Richmond Dragway site when it was for sale. I called the guy back but it was sold. I ended up picking up 66 C10 and I'm in the middle of building it out now. If this is the same truck, it's a trip watching you build it out.
@@RESTORATIONRESCUE The disk brake/power booster/MC conversion is complete with dropped spindles and dropped coil springs with new tie rods/ball joints and shocks all around. Interior is 95% complete. I'm not doing a frame off but rather keeping it old and rusty on the outside but everything else is new or replaced/restored. Currently I'm running new brake lines all around. I've crawled under and around your truck for over an hour checking it out when I was looking at it a year ago so it's very cool watching you rebuild this truck.
@@snotdog that’s awesome. He frame was really good on ours. Obviously the body rust is bad but we are working through it. We are doing brake lines soon too as well as welding.
