I don't think you're wrong about anything you mentioned in the video! We all take different meanings from the books we read. You brought up a lot of interesting themes. But for me, the biggest theme is Memory, and how that is such a vital part of our lives, our existence. But you're also right in that healing and loss is a vital part of the book as well! Great video!
Thanks 😊 love that you’ve given me something else to focus on with regards memory. It’s evident right the way through but King treats memories like secrets, sometimes locked in the box and so,times in our sub consciousness. Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment 👍
Thanks so much. Ironically, I've been avoiding the Dark Tower until I have covered much more of his work as it seems to link in with a lot of it. I think he's a fantastic writer with a distinct style for writing people and places. Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment. It is much appreciated!
A Constant reader myself. It is better understood if you read the other works first, but it is some of his better work. Especially my own favorite of the books, the third one. With Blaine the train who is a pain, as the protagonist in a game of riddles. And Blaine never answered Eddie's first riddle. The drums are from ZZ Top's Velcro Fly.@@chrismohan
Just finished. As a parent of a daughter this book def wrecked me… cried hard. Pet Semetary also wrecked me as a parent of a son too ha. Nobody writes being a parent quite like King.
Thanks for your thoughts. I find many stories and movies transformed by my experiences as a parent. Before I became a dad, I would rarely cry but now I sob at the most minor thing 😀
What a great review. You bring up some awesome points. It's been a couple years since I read this, so this was a great refresher. Can't wait to reread Duma Key, it is definitely one of my favorites.
What a fantastic review/discussion. Duma Key is easily a top 5 King book for me (possibly top 3), so it's nice to hear it getting some love. This brought back a load of great memories of the book with mentions of Big Pink and Wireman ("hey muchacho!"), so I think a re-read has to be on the cards. I liked how you referenced the King/horror association as, for me, I've never really seen King as a 'horror' writer (not sure how I'd label him), and Duma Key is a perfect example where there is so much more to the story than the horror/supernatural elements. Great job with the review, and I really look forward to catching up with some of your other videos.
Thank you so much. As each page and chapter passed, it was clear to me that the book was top tier King. As I’ve alluded to, I think King writes his characters darker thoughts on page. It’s fair to say that any person’s dark moment are allegory to horror but he manages to use the ideas and make some thing fantastical out of it. I plan to do a first time read of Salems Lot this month if I can get around to it. Thanks for taking the time to watch and leva shout own thoughts. It’s much appreciated 👍
