I am so sorry to hear about your husband's passing. I had no idea because in pretty much all your videos I've seen you have the most up beat chipper attitude. You really are an inspiration showing how to move through grief in a positive way by bringing plants to life and maintaining their vivacity over the years. These videos and shorts really keep me going through the hard times. Thanks for all you do Krystal ❤❤❤

Bless your heart. I lost mine unexpectedly 5 years ago and thank you for telling people not to ask because it’s still hard and it’s something you will tell people when you’re ready and it is very personal and painful. Remember there is no right or wrong way to deal with loss and grief and there is no time period. You do what you need to do to heal yourself. And you set the tone for friends and family about your boundaries and it’s ok to talk about those loved ones lost. Prayers & Hugs to you

I found your channel over the summer, & it’s become a great place for me to come to when I’m having a bad time. I lost my son’s dad just a little over a month ago… & since he was so young, of course people ask me how he passed away, but like you said, how he passed, is irrelevant, it’s the fact that he passed, & that’s hard enough. I really like how you worded that, & I will respond with that answer from now on. I’ve always loved gardening outdoors, but until I found your channel, I never thought of indoor plants, I now have 7 in my room lol (it’s the only safe place for them to hide away from my cats😅). Having them to “work on” has been such a great escape over this last month, I’m even trying to get my son into it with me. We’ve been trying to go to a new nursery every weekend. Thank you so much for all the knowledge you share with us, it’s truly so valuable, & so appreciated! Wish you all the success in the world!

Miss, I’m the same, if I’m doing something while someone’s trying to have a convo with me, what I’m doing ends up WAY OVER THOROUGHLY done lol I’m so very grateful for “your weird” ❤ Random note: winding Hoya tendrils counter clockwise is how it do in nature, it’ll climb and grow betta/fasta You worked full time with teens?!?! No wonder you need plant therapy!! I’d be a full on alcoholic if I didn’t have my plants. I’m a step mom to three kids that were abused by mom, and all 3 project/projected that hate onto me, they felt safe enough not to get the same repercussions so they threw/throw it on me… I’m in counseling too obvs. But plants and humour are my saviours. I lost my wife unexpectedly in 2001, and finding and following you has been cathartic for me. I think you hit on the biggest thing - we keep going because we have no choice but to. Every day, one step in front of the other, because what else are you going to do? US Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman released a poem called "New Day's Lyric" at the end of 2021 as a way of processing everything going on in the world at the time and resetting into 2022 that resonated with me so much that I have an art print of it that I see every single day as a reminder. It begins: May this be the day We come together. Mourning, we come to mend, Withered, we come to weather, Torn, we come to tend, Battered, we come to better. Tethered by this year of yearning, We are learning That though we weren't ready for this, We have been readied by it. We steadily vow that no matter How we are weighed down, We must always pave a way forward.

I’ma share a memory I was thinking about this morning as my late father’s bday is coming up: I got a phone call that my dad died. I rushed to my parents’ house and my mother (estranged) had already allowed EMS to take him away. I had no idea how he’d died and was in the peak stage of shock. I put on some dark sunglasses and took their dog for a walk to get some air when a WASPY-ass neighbor lady pulled up to the curb and rolled down the window of her SUV. I hadn’t seen, spoken to, or thought about this woman in 10+ years and even then she was a c***! She said, “Elderbat, what happened? I saw an ambulance at your house earlier.” I told her that my dad died. It was the first time I’d uttered those words and it definitely did not feel real yet. “That’s what I thought”, she said with the nonchalance one might use to chat about the weather, following with, “How did it happen?” I have no idea how I responded. When I reflect on that moment I feel a bit angry, but mostly amused by what a moron she is/was. 😂 Love you, love your channel! Keep keepin’ on 💚

I cannot relate to the grief, but hearing you talk about learning how to live life again is very similar to how I've been feeling. I've never pursued my hobbies to the extent that I am now, and you have been one of the motivators in the plant department for me :) I'm glad to have such a chill and goofy person to learn about houseplants from. I also quit the best job I ever had to take care of my father who has dementia. There is some good in this, though. I have taken over my Dad's garden and have started a new plant collection. I find solace with my plants and a good a cup of coffee. One day at a time.

I have several toxic plants in my collection and I have 3 Yorkies, none of them have ever messed with or shown interest in my plants. They prefer being right next to me rather than sniffing around plants. Now as for soil on the floor…I clean it up as fast as it hits the ground because my oldest yorkie will try to eat the soil. I’m so sorry to hear about your husband. Lifting you up in prayer. I agree with the growing veggies. I tried a few years back and it was tough keeping up with them. I yielded tomatoes but they were so bland 😖 in talking to my friends husband he said tomatoes are very tricky to grow. I can get yummy cherry tomatoes but big full size tomatoes… nope. Now I just focus on my plants. I’ll try again when I have the time to dedicate.

I commend you for standing your ground on not sharing the details of your husbands passing. its not our business! I know some folks are just curious and don't mean any harm, but it is a little insensitive to pry, especially considering it really hasn't been that long all things considered. this is coming from someone who has had a similar yet incredibly different experience with grief following the death of my great nan also in 2022, and although I'm very comfortable sharing the details of that since my nan was the furthest thing from a private person lol, I would never ask another person to share something so personal. its been nearly 2 years and it still hurts me like it did when she died. I cant even begin to imagine what it feels like to lose your life partner.

I love the longer form videos! I work on the computer and I can't be swiping on shorts while I work, so it's awesome to get my daily dose of plant knowledge from my favorite plant person on my second screen while I work! Thank you for pushing outside of your comfort zone and being vulnerable with us (Although I think it's pretty gross that some people have the callousness to pry into your wounds for sake of their own nosiness. How inhumane of them 😒)

Hi, love your videos, you are a pleasure to be around. I like your quirky fun side, but also your more serious way of answering questions. I think you have a good balance of both. I´m always tempted to use your phrase "drown that h*", but it´s not me, so I normally phrase it differently, but in my head I always hear you :D I live in denmark and we had a planty meeting the other day, and people told me they always kill cactus/succulents in winter and I just look accusatory at them and asked if they watered them, made everyone laugh and then we talked about it a bit more. What you said about not talking about your husband (or other personal details) was really well done. I fully agree with not sharing what you don´t feel comfortable to share and to respect your loved ones and friends boundaries even if they are not with you. I also wouldn´t ask this sort of question, but in general people are curious and there always is someone who will ask, so I wish you all the strength to just say no, I won´t answer this, and hope that people (internet or real world) will accept it.

You can bring merch and props if you like. Maybe set it up at a plant event. Honestly, it would be fun to gift you some props as well and I’m sure many others would probably want to do the same 😊. I see it as more of a making friends thing but I am also shy so I can understand where you’re coming from 😂.

As soon as you mentioned a fiddle, I side-eyed my own fiddle XD ive only had it for about 10 days, and so far it is behaving. luckily I have huuuuuge west-facing windows, so I'm hoping that'll help in the long run.

You could set up a volunteer activity where the people who want to meet you, also help the community! That makes it less about you and more about helping people/ the planet!

Thank you so much for sharing with all of us! This was great! You are right for respecting your husband and not sharing how that happened; I feel like that is always such a tacky thing to ask, anyway. I appreciate your realness and rawness with all of us and sharing so much that you did. Hearing about your background and so much about you was really, very cool. You have quickly become one of my favorite planty you-tubers so thank you for all of your efforts in putting so much time into your content! 😁

Such a nice little video! I repotted and potted some monstera deliciosas and did some cleaning in the living room while listening to you chatting. Such a relaxing vibe here. I'd like to thank you for making videos. You're the one who took me from a notorious plant killer to someone with 40+ thriving plants. I've lost a life I used to have in the past year and a half, and getting into plants has really helped with the growing pains.

Speaking about outdoor gardening, It takes a lot of stress off by watering by drip. Once it is hooked up it changes everything. I watch Garden Answer and that is where I learned about it and witnessed the advantages. My sister in law gifted me a pretty good size monstera. My very first one. I looked to you for help. I have had 3 new leaves come and with striations on each one. I was so excited. I noticed a new one coming again. I need a better staking system but I wanted to live with it. Thank you for helping me and so many others gain confidence

Krystal, I found your channel recently and you’ve really become one of my favorite RU-vidrs. I normally hate short-form videos, but I find yours hilarious. Would really love more long-form videos from you! This Q&A was really awesome. Thank you for sharing your plant knowledge and being really vulnerable and candid about the personal things. Wishing you the best in your healing. I lost a loved one in 2021 and it was such a dark time. I’m glad you’re taking care of yourself and continue to through grief therapy! Keep the great content coming - and excited to see what 2024 has in store for you!

You are awesome!!! Your voice is soothing as well. I was checking roots on a declining peace Lily while listening and of course my fear was true. Root rot. Got them cleaned up and stuck her in a clear vase with leca and small amount of water w/nutrients. Please continue the RU-vid videos. Can’t wait for more ❤

I was so happy to see you post this video. My plants have helped keep me sane and happier since 2018. That year will forever feel like the darkest loss year of my life. I still go plant shopping after a stressful day to cheer myself up. Hugs to you Krystal from Texas!❤

I just got my vanilla orchid today, and I decided to repot her. Her name is Anthe (An-thee) by the way! Hoping to get a carnivorous plant as well! Possibly a butterwort! Any tips on caring for butterworts other than there just just fancy (fancy as in they need rain water because tap water makes them sad)?

Thank you for responding about my friend's grandmother's plant. Neither she nor I know what it was. However she plans to take your advice about choosing a medium, probably perlite, and seeing if she can bring that baby back. ❤

Just an FYI...my 30lb pup has panic attacks with storms, and out of the blue, he ripped into my philos, monstera and alocasia...32 leaves consumed. He vomitted once and then back to normal. I was scared for him but fortunately only 6 plants were harmed.
