In case anyone cares, he got the gem on the Boulder stage because even though he died, he started from the beginning, and not from a check point. If you die and spawn in a checkpoint, all the boxes that you have broken before the checkpoint, have been unbroken, therefore it's not perfect.
+K-33x42 -E false man. I've beaten crash bandicoot countless times. You can die, and still get a perfect run only if you die and start from the beginning of the level. Phil just proved it lol. If you die and start on a checkpoint, all boxes you previously broke spawn again. A lot of people in youtube don't say this because they themselves don't know. I found out through a youtuber who did a retrospective on crash bandicoot and told me the exact same Thing I've explained. As long as you start from the beginning after a death, you can still get the perfect clearance on a level. I'll try to link the video I saw with the same info if I can find it.
Theoretically you can die in the japanese version and still get the gem because the box screen doesn't go away. However all boxes still respawn so you would be forced to backtrack. But the rest remains true for the european and american version.
Darkvoid607 Well, I can't figure out what that fucking dog wants, and the idiots that are supposed to be telling me what to do are WROONNGGG! ACK ACK ACK!!!!!
44:52 "Are you kidding me? You'd have to ask Leanna for his balls to do that first". Alice was a master in the art of roasting. She's on fire this whole playthrough, but that line made me burst into tears. RIP miss Alice. You were a very witty girl.
Agreed. Been saying this for a few years now. Like no joke, I want a court order for Phil, barring him from owning any consoles or games, as well as from uploading anything to RU-vid.
At around 33:58 he racked up 125 deaths. So I did some number crunching. 33:58 is basically 60 * 34 - 2 seconds which is 2038 seconds. 2038 / 125 gives us one death every 16.3 seconds. I didn't bother calculating from the rest of the video or factoring the intro and outro, but let's put this in perspective. DSP is losing a life in this game every SIXTEEN seconds on average.
1:14:45 - Thus continues his tradition of praising a game after he'd spent 6 hours SHITTING ON IT!! No, Phil, you DON'T have fun: it's all about the MON-AAY!!
It's so ironic that he said gaming isn't about being hunched over with big headphones screaming like a ninny, and that is exactly him now. Became his on antithesis.
6:55 To be fair, I think you can only see that starting cutscene where the Evolv-o-Ray is shown if you hold on the Title Screen for a while, which most people especially playing it now aren't usually going to do.
About that gem in Boulders level, you're not supposed to die AFTER the first checkpoint in order to break all the boxes and get a gem. So he DID get it legitimately (unfortunately). One of the very few times when TIHYDP video maker is WRONG.
I'm glad I had the privilege to have watched this with you haha. Even as a kid when I first played this game I didn't have nearly half the trouble Phil does, I mean some levels are pretty hard even now but I don't remember having any game overs with the amount of lives the game gives you. But then Phil is Phil so bleh.
I like how as the videos progress he gets angrier and angrier losing that fake positivity but did he do some drugs while failing? Plus by the end he sounded so deppressed
I would love to see a side by side comparison with DSP and a speed runner. I wonder how quick this game could be beat while dsp is still trying to beat something.
About the gem. Not sure if I remember correctly, but if you died but started from the beginning of the stage, it counted as not dying. Not entirely sure about that, but i recall it being something like that.
9:42 I can explain. The whole "If I die, I lose out on a gem." Thing only applies when you get a checkpoint. If you die and go back to the start of the stage, you can still get a gem. It only when you hit a checkpoint box where you lose out on a gem when you die.
I think he got the gem because when he died he restarted the level from the beginning instead of at a checkpoint. When you die it resets the counter for the crates and the crates themselves. So if you where to die then respawn in the level at the beginning then you could achieve at getting the gem.
The "you can only die once" rule only applies if you die after using a checkpoint. Also, Sunset Vista and The Lab are both tougher than Slippery Climb imo.
He got the gem in Boulder dash because he died before hitting a check point. You can still get gems if you die before a checkpoint. Not like I'm trying to defend him.
11:05 Phil got a gem even though he died because dying isn't actually stipping you from getting a gem, it just resets the boxes in a level. Phil died before any boxes so he got lucky and got a gem
If you die at the start of a level before the check point box you can still get the gem but if you die after you already hit the check point box then he would not get a gem because a death in crash bandicoot rest all box crates.
The crash playthroughs have illustrated phils biggest problem which is a lack of comprehension of perspective. It's either his shit eyes, something fucked in his brain or its just because he never slows down to learn the proper approach. But since its phil its probably all 3 and maybe also having his energy depleted due to pre-stream shenanigans
Also, Crash 1 didn't have a proper save system. The Tawna saves only save up to the level in which they're located. Going back to level 2 to save would cause him to have to start at level 2 and play most of the levels over again. That's why the game doesnt let you.
312 deaths. In Crash Bandicoot 1. Wow. I seriously think that I haven't lost that many lives during my whole SNES and Playstation days playing A LOT of jump'n'runs....
I think Crash 1 has aged poorly with its unresponsive controls but most of these deaths and failures are just because Phil is shitting horrendous at vidiya.
One thing about Phil that has seemed fishy all along is how he managed to note only repeat many of the same stock excuses, but using the exact same words and seemingly even INFLECTION as well. Maybe he's a robot? A really badly-designed one obviously.
At 7:54. I think it was chaffxgrenade's version of this TIHYDP crash where he made that the funniest moment ever. He slowed it down without pitch shifting it and it was goddam hilarious sounding
I accidentally muted this for 2 minutes and didn't notice because Phil goes quiet sometimes for no reason, but then I realized not everyone (or the game for that matter) should've been silent.
My favourite thing about this playthrough is watching dip shit Phil descend into madness over time. He begins the game with hope and happiness in his heart with his wacky, crazy, TOTALLY ZANY (haha kill me) antics and camera overreactions with his ca$h cam to a devolved, frustrated mess that seems as if he's begging for a lethal injection because he can't time a fucking jump in a PLATFORMER. Thanks for this, Freddy. I think i've watched this 7 times or so. Phil is insufferable, but you guys make it worthwhile.
Knowing just how much he was against doing LP's "For the kids" like pewdiepie, the urge to cause him actual physical harm after just the first ten minutes of this is driving me insane.
