Edwards Mill is a overshot, water powered grist mill located on the campus of College of the Ozarks or "Hard Work U". The grist mill was built in 1972 and features a 12' water powered, overshot wheel. In this episode I will discuss how grist mills work, show you many of the variations of stone mills and the different types of propulsion these amazing and historical mills used to create energy from the water.
These mills were the original "green" energy manufacturing plants. There is so much history associated with these old grist mills and each one has it's own story to tell. Join me as we explore water mills all over the country.

Welcome to Millin' Around with Jim Viebrock.
In this video blog series I travel all around the country re-visiting the old mills that I have photographed for more than 30 years. These sites have interesting history and are nestled in some of the most picturesque locations in the country. I'll talk about the unique features of each structure and the use of the topography to create energy, I'll share the stories of human success and trials, how the mill operated and how each mill impacted the communities that grew alongside them. I'll talk about how these mills were used during the civil war, why they were captured or burned and by who. These fascinating locations are true survivors and their stories are worthy of telling. Come with me on a beautiful journey of folklore, history and engineering, not to mention some of the most beautiful and amazing locations.

Jim - Please schedule a visit to the Pine Creek Grist Mill in 2023. It's in Muscatine County, Iowa. She's 174 years old in 2022. I'm the carpenter for the Mill. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thumbs up.

Jim, you will be pleased to hear that we are going to build a reproduction working grist mill in Pottsville, AR sometime between 2025 and 2027. It will be similar to this one in Point Lookout, Mo. ( BTW- our sone graduated from that school in 2010) We have a small 10 acre lake and we will pump the water to a small retention pond to gravity feed the overshot water wheel and flow back into the lake to be recycled back to the retention pond again. War Eagle Mill near Rogers, AR will no longer be the only working grist mill in Arkansas at that point. (No disrespect to them). War Eagle Mill is a beautiful mill with the undershot wheel which works great but the wheel isn't very visible with the wall guarding the wheel from logs and debris floating down the stream. We also like the mill in Chelmsford, MA as our mill house will look similar to that one there. Once we have finished construction on our mill we would love to have you visit for a tour. Respectfully, Eric and Holly Edens

I recently found this video and I enjoyed it. I was wondering if you would ever visit the grist mill at Spring Mill State Park in Mitchell Indiana? It sits on its original foundation from when it was built in the 1800s.
