This is the final part of this portrait lesson. Here I focused primarily on the techniques I used with skin textures, adjusting values and color temperatures, and applying glazes of transparent colors. There is a lot of info in this one and I did my best to keep it under 30 minutes. So if anything is unclear, I apologize. I'm still learning how to edit these videos down and adjust the audio. And if you follow along with this painting lesson, I wish you the best of luck. Just keep painting!

Many thanks. Great info. Must try a canvas painting... up to now I have only used synthetic paper or board.

A lot of great information in this video. I love the art history bits. They really help me understand the why of techniques, not just the how. Amazing portrait work here. Can't wait for your next one!

I’ve started this one, I’m about 16 hours in so far, it is coming along nicely, not on par with this amazing work but I’m happy.. love the videos, love your knowledge that you share and the work you put out.. much appreciated… 👍🏼 learnt an amazing amount..

That's awesome Daz! Glad to hear it. 16 hours is a good time spent. I'm just like you in this regard, I love to paint slowly. If you get a chance send me some photos of your work. I'd love to see how it's coming along and offer any suggestions if you'd like. If your happy with it so far and enjoying painting... that's what it is all about!

@@theartworkshop mate I’m loving the practice, i’ve lost it a little bit and it’s no where near the work you pull out but it’s a start, I just wanted to push myself with something difficult, for my 1st portrait I’m reasonably happy.. how can I ping a photo mate??

@@yorky406 Oh man the first time a portrait can be very difficult. Glad to hear you are getting along well with it. I still remember my first portrait in oils- we won't talk about it lol. My email is in the about page- it's theartworkshop100@gmail.com Looking forward to seeing your work!

Many great tips in your videos! Apologies if I missed it in one of your tutorials, but what is the benefit of reducing with distilled water as opposed to createx’s recommended reducers?
@theartworkshop
@theartworkshop 2 года назад
Great question. I've noticed that distilled water seems to weaken the binder of the paint, making it easier to erase. Reducers are great too, I just prefer water.

These videos are incredible just one question what colour pencils do you use
@theartworkshop
@theartworkshop 2 года назад
Thanks! I used a prismacolor black and a stabilo brown on this one.

Awesome painting! Do you wear a respirator or use a filter system when you airbrush? Thanks!
@theartworkshop
@theartworkshop 2 года назад
You should always use something to protect your lungs. When I painting large areas, I wear a respirator or a N95 mask. There is a lot of over spray in the air during long sessions so a mask is a must. I have a studio with decent ventilation too.
@troygroff4512
@troygroff4512 2 года назад
@@theartworkshop I always wear a respirator but I am looking to get a air filter system. I've been painting most of my life and airbrushing probably about the last 30 years. Not much portraits though so i appreciate your advice. Thanks!

Seems like a silly question, but would I love to know what brand the red handle clutch pencil is that you use. It seems very solid/robust, unlike the few I have tried.
@theartworkshop
@theartworkshop 2 года назад
No such thing as a silly question. The one I use is the Koh-I-Noor Technigraphic (5611). The clutch is pretty wide so it fits a wide variety of erasers.

One question - what size canvas are you using and what is the minimum size you would use for portraiture?
@theartworkshop
@theartworkshop Год назад
this one is about 22 inches in height and about 16 inches in width. Larger is easier for me. The smallest I'd paint would prob be 9x12.
